Hi guys as title says Im a gym hater can't stand the thought of a load of sweaty people working out sweating all over one another

But the thing is I need to work out

I moved in with my OH nearly a year ago and Ive been going down hill every since eating the same amounts boozing on weekend, just chilling and getting way to comfortable!

I have a girly holiday coming up that has made me see I really have let myself go
I changed my diet and started to work out from home on a bike
Not really feeling much of a difference
Bf says just keep at it and it will happen but its been a month and no weight change NONE!

So I was wondering if anyone can suggest the best way for me to get really started I feel im not working hard enough on bike to get myself going?

    Thanks anyway!

    What's your full diet?

What are you doing on the bike?

I would have to say that the bike - unless you're putting in a real solid, consistent effort, lots of mileage - is one of the worst ways of losing the flab. I would get out there running/jogging or better still start lifting weights - weights/bodyweight exercise combined with cardio is a win-win.

You do need to give it a bit of time but you should start seeing changes in the mirror soon. Don't be discouraged - stick with it and above all be consistent!

    hey

U have to be committed to losing the weight u put on in order to lose it. Posting is a great idea for both support and advise.

I was in the opposite situation to you. I let myself go and lost alot of weight (im a guy by the way). I found one major mistake i was making was exercising early in the morning nd not having the right diet to support the exercise, i ended up losing more weight with training rather than gaining it. What im getting at is that when u you eat and exercise you burn the energy(food u have just ate) and not fat. Therefore the most effective way of burning just fat is exercising before breakfast. Your body will naturally look for something to burn, and if theres no fuel it will use your fat reserves.

That's not actually true I'm afraid. It is a combination of the energy from the food you have recently eaten and stored energy in the form of fat and muscle glycogen.

Really the way to burn fat is to use up more calories than you take in - and you do that by not eating too much and getting the work-outs in - simple as that!

Thanks guys you've been really helpful

Not necessarily, plenty you can do outside of a gym...hill sprints, bodyweight circuits, crossfit have a whole raft of workouts that can be done without weights, then there are boot camps, kettlebell classes than don't utilise a gym environment.

For progression you can get yourself a couple of choice pieces of equipment you can use at home...couple of kettlebells/dumbells, dynabands, pullup bar, trx or similar suspension trainer.

Clean up your diet, (read the stickies for more info on that), in a nutshell... minimize the white starchy carbs (breads/pasta etc.) and processed foods. Get more protein/fats.

Google ''interval training'' for yourself and check out Charlies channel 'bodyrock tv' over on youtube for everything else.

Nobody cares enough about you to notice you in the gym. To get noticed, you either need to be exceptionally strong/hot (and you say you've let yourself go, so you're neither) or an absolute tool (which I'll assume you won't be).

That's harsh but it's the genuine truth.

+1 to the post quoted above.

    SLJ

Below are two videos which will give you an idea of what is possible without going to the gym.

This link show how a lady lost her post baby weight and shows a lot of the things mentioned by cmyk (kettlebells, suspension training, dumbells etc.

    http://www.icechamber.com/videos/mgcomeback1.html

This video shows a lady working out just using her surroundings imaginatively

If you are interested in an introduction to kettle bells then check out the following site http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/ and check out the "Buy workshops online" link on the lefthand side of the page (link http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/workshops ).

They have a womens only workshop coming up on Sat 29th May in the IFSC. This is a 3 hour workshop where you will learn the correct form for the basic lifts and also how to put routines together. Also the price (€55) includes a 8kg kettlebell to take away with you and also a 40 page manual outlining different KB exerciese.

I did the mens one a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Though expect to be stiff and sore for a couple of days after it :) I know I was, even though I workout 6 days a week #

    Well hope this helps some.

    Best Regards,

    M

Though under all that, I see the point you are trying to make...your choice of wording really isn't helpful.

    I am a closet gym hater. :D

You might try a class of something instead. I'm fit and lean because I enjoy doing Muay Thai (a martial art / fighting thing). In only a slight plug there's a ladies only class starting next week that you might be interested in. The club is in the city centre. If you want more detail let me know.

Sure. First class is this coming Monday at 6 in Bridgestone Muay Thai. Ladies only. 7 euro for the class as far as I know. Kelly Simon (one of our Pro fighters) is teaching the class. The gym is near smithfield. There's a map here and some more information in this thread.
