My bank the National Irish in my local town is closing its branch at the end of the summer and I am thinking of changing to either AIB or Bank O Ireland both of which have branches locally. I don't have a mortgage or any loans just a savings, current and mastercard account. I would just like some feedback about is there any differences between the two or is one better than the other.
    Thanks in advance

my parents recently had this trouble - and they moved to BOI.

Personally I would of moved to AIB - as you can do CASH transactions in your local post office and I rather their internet banking.

To be honest, at a high level, they are pretty similar. The main difference for you will be at the branch level (ie which branch is better). Not all branches are the same. In on town/suburb the AIB branch could be more efficient/friendly than the BOI, while in another town/suburb, it could be the opposite.

As for internet banking (mentioned above), it's been a while since I last used BOI, but at the time AIB's was better (and has since improved even more so). Generally, my understanding is that AIB's is better (traditionally, AIB led the way, and other banks followed in relation to online services), but I could be wrong. As I said, it's been a few years.

    +1 to that.
They have a better online system to handle european and international payments.
The internet banking also easily integrates with goodbody's online share trading system if you're interested in that.
    :)
