If we don't meet the required cutbacks, what precisely will happen? Will we be expelled from the Euro zone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Quick someone check down the back of the seats in the Dail bar.

My honest answer - don't know.
One thing I'm sure of though, we are all going to pay more/lose more...

This is why although there is tonnes of work for me here (IT) I am actively seeking to emigrate. Why would I stay here to let my tax be given to a shower of *****. At least abroad I feel it will definately be well spent!

    And the other option is...?
We need to balance the books. That is all the government should be concerned about in the coming months.

I do agree that we have to balance the books but sooner or later "you can't get blood from a stone"
People can only be bled so dry, so much and then god knows what happens after that!

Probably. But it cannot be more mismangaged that here. This country is the pits. I only came home to do a one year course. Roll On July. Ireland is ****e. It always has been and always will be. I am not staying around to pay off huge debts.

Further €3 billion in cut backs. Talk about beating a dead horse.

Just don't emigrate to Greece, Spain or Portugal - or basically anywhere in the eurozone that is handing out taxpayers money to Greece.

Or anywhere in South America, or Africa. Or the USA, where they'll use your taxes to fund their wars. Or China or Russia where their governments are rife with corruption.

    So that leaves.. hmm, Australia?

I hate sayings like that in relation to Ireland's situation. You'd swear we were all on the bread line. The facts are that we cannot afford our outgoings and they need to be cut back. The PS bill, the amount of people not in the tax net, and overly generous welfare payments ALL need to be addressed. It's not blood from a stone - we live extremely comfortably here..

We have some of the highest wages in the world, some of the highest unemployment benefits, and one of the highest paid PS's in the world. Someone on the dole here 'earns' almost as much as a teacher in Greece. Probably a lot more when you factor in other benefits.

And the problem is that some people can't get their heads around this fact.

And just wait until the EU get their way & we have to hand over our budget proposals for inspection & approval.

You'll be glad you voted 'Yes' to Lisbon then.

Too right, I'd much rather our budget come from the EU then the clowns we currently have in charge. It's just a shame we didn't let them do it 10+ years ago.

True but you mention a few time one important word.
    "SOME"
Not all, just some - and not the majority of tax payers (thats you and I) who are going to be bled again and again in a number of continuing ways very shortly - again it never ends!

If people thinks the Government balancing the books is painful, then they won't like the consequences of the Government not balancing the books!

Please tell me what on Earth Lisbon has to do with this. Thanks.

No - the problem is that those on those wages are being looked after by FF, while those of us that are earning just about enough to justify working are being hammered by the likes of Lenihan.

Just as a matter of interest, what does electricity, petrol, home heating, food and a roof over your head cost for that teacher in Greece ?

I hear greece got a bit of cash from somewhere recently
we could ask for a loan?

You'll be glad when the Eurocrats decide our economic policy? When a sovereign state is told what to do by a foreign government? Wow.

To anyone who might think min wage is too high; I work close to it and six days a week. It's not fun and it really isn't a lot to live on. The dole would be worse. I'm glad for the job.

It's safe to say they're not 5 times less costly than they are here, to justify us having 5 times the salary.

Everyone looking forward to a Fine Gael/Labour coalition? A party that knows we need more cuts, and a party that thinks we don't need anyway.

    Yay....

Cut spending in education we only need to concentrate on the brainest 100000 or so for this knowledge based economy and forget about the dummies. Health encourage natural healers. Anybody on welfare must shop in aldi so we can cut their benifits. Cut the amount of tds etc by at least half it only takes four or five to **** everyone over

    Singapore. Hong Kong. Switzerland.
Option 3, the first two the Chinese are interested in - and don't even suggest Africa.
    They are after that too!

I was always a skeptic of the EU but the more I think about it, they couldn't possibly be worse than what we have now. We've already proven ourselves incapable of self governance over the last 80 years, voting in the same corrupt twats time and time again and then bitching when said twats screw us over.

    ...and the rest?

The country is fúcked. Anyone that can't see this is a complete moron.
The government bottled it with the public sector so can't cut wages anymore.
Hence roads/hospitals/education are all going to suffer as a result as they have no choice but to cut it from services. We're well and truly screwed.
My fear is FF are going to just keep doing enough to keep the IMF of our backs till 2012 when FG/Labour get into Government.
Once in they realise what a mess FF made of the country and have no choice but to call in the IMF.
FF will then trot out the spiel for the next election blaming it on FG/Labour that IMF is controlling our finances and no doubt enough suckers will vote them back in a few years again.
I honestly think FF would quite happily fúck the country over to save their necks.
Cowen/Harney/Bertie are all guilty of treason and should have their asses in jail now. But nope..they're all living the high life while the rest of us are working our asses off and getting our asses taxed off.

If they do anymore to cut and also raise taxes, it will probably be enough to cause riots. I for one hope we go all French on their asses!!
