Is there a test you can do to see if you are hormonally imbalanced? I started my periods when I was eleven and they were never regular. I went to the doctor when I was 17 and he said to me that I was still very young and not to worry. I went on the pill then when i was 18 and have been on it since I'm now 27so I don't know if I came off the pill if I'd be normal. I am very up and down with my moods like one minute i'm grand and the next I'm feeling like crying, I get very fed up. I don't think I'm depressed or anything, because it's really sudden and I can be out of the mood quickly then? Maybe i'm just going mad any ideas?

Once you're off the pill a couple of months your doc should be able to tell you if you have a hormone imbalance with blood tests and urine tests. All they'll do to 'help' you is put you on the pill as far as I know.

What pill are you on? maybe it doesn't suit you. Also are your moods constantly like this or just at certain times of the month? you should speak to your doctor.

I think it's definetly worth asking your G.P.

    Hi there

I have a similar problem; I am 19 now ad 5 years after starting my periods they are still so irregular and infrequent that they are anything from 3-18 months apart.

I went to the doctor during the 18 month stint and every I went I was told not to worry on the basis of blood tests; no hormone imbalance.

I went on the pill for 3 months but it made me so sick I came off it. My doctor simply said that with time my periods would turn regular as my hormones are ok. Yet I am approaching my 20th birthday and I'm worried I could have a fertility issue in the future

As regards the mood swings, I'd say you could have a hormone issue? Were you ever sent to see a gynaecologist? I would push for you doctor to send you to one as they are the ones with expertise in the field. The one I was sent to was lovely and did specialist hormone tests as I felt my doctor hadn't done enough.

I know this is not very helpful but I was attracted to it as I am in the same boat as you, just 7/8 behind. Let me know how you get on; you are not alone ;)

There's no harm in going to the GP and talking to them about your concerns. I started my period when I was 11 too and they were always really heavy. I've been on the pill since I was 18 (25 in a few months now). Have you always been on the same pill? Some are harsher than others in terms of the drugs in them.
