Is back this year on the 22nd of July.

    Linkage

There will be chip timing this year and online entry is available via active europe. Last year almost 16k was raised for the hospitals stroke services, mostly via race entry fees.

I'm not sure whether yours truly will be on hand to provide post race massage this year but I'm sure the others will make remotely good substitutes for me. :pac:

Looks good, I've put it on my calendar. Any idea why it's 6.5k? To guarantee PBs?

No idea why it's 6.5k, I assume it's just because they wanted to take in the liberties and the hospital in the route. Also a unique distance, pb's all round....

Just to let yee know. Entries close for this on Sunday. There'll be the same offers as last year, clowns and balloons for t'children and post race massage. Sadly, I will not be offering the post race massage this year but I should be around to cheer yee on.

Looking forward to this, plus the weather looks to be getting a bit better by Thursday.

Looks like a great course, and will be interesting to run it instead of normally driving it. A few months ago I would have been fuming if I encountered this on my way home from work.

How much to enter on night?

    U are joking RQ aren't u?!!

sure anyone (like myself) who registered online had to pay 21 euro and went to the bother of being in good time......then somebody just turnin up on the night is going to get entry a euro cheaper???!

i hope not.........25 euro should be the order of the day surely....

I'm basing it on the price of paper entry being €20. I have no idea really of how much they're charging for entry on the night.

I had thougt that I had missed this. Good to see the late registration being offered. Leaves indicisive people like myself enought time to change my mind about 5 times.
At the moment I am running it. Should stick with that decision this time.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I double checked and it's €20 for registration on the night. Can I just point out that the organisers don't get any of the extra you pay online, that all goes to the site you registered on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭bewleys berry

ah i know that RQ....... had seen that u could post off ur entry for 20 or enter online for 21, so knew the web crowd were getting the one........just think they should have upped it to 25 for the late comers like all other races do......... plus there's a recession on and i'm down a euro now:p

does anyone have any recommendations of where to park for this race, if i don't make the bus i will have to drive.

There is parking in IMMA, I don't know if there will be enough though? You go in the back entrance from Milatary Road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭petermijackson

I parked at Hueston last year and then crossed from there - it was cheap enough if I remember right. Going to jog from work this year and use bag drop

Is it handier to jump of luas at St James or Heuston for this ?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

IMMA gates close at 18:30 there's some street parking around aswell but you might be better off on public transport. I'll be hanging round on a white road bike to cheer yee all on if its not raining.

Very nice race. New PB of 28:45 for that distance but the garmin measured the course as 3.93 miles!

Well done to all concerned for this event.

New PB (a given), nice t-shirt, chip timing, well marshalled, nice and interesting course, lots of physios to give people a rub down in a church (the novelty), it started on time and my placing and time and chiptime texted to me by 9.30.

Also an annoucement was made at the start that if you are going to run/walk or walk, please move back and let the runners come to the front.

There's many a non 'fun-run' that could learn alot from this event. I'll be back next year.

Edit: On Sarsfield's point, I think that the distance was based on the road surface but alot of people around me went across the pavements at every point as there was a good few turns where you could go straight across esp. coming out of the hospital which was the only place i went off road.

I didn't manage to get out, it was 7:40 by the time I got the chance to check the time and even I couldn't have got to Kilmainham in 4 minutes from where I was.

Any idea who the winners were? Winning times?

Hope you all enjoyed it. A lot of work goes into this race and it seemed to all pay off last year with great reviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭bewleys berry

was a quality race RQ.....david flynn (clonliffe) won the mens from pat byrne (tinryland) with either mick traynor or john eves third......winning time was approx 19.20/19.30

womens race was won by patricia wloradcyk (raheny) in 22.06.......i think kate o' neill (msb) was second.......

lovely course and loads of stewards out........really well run and along with the weather being so nice and the start/finish being in such a nice area it was a good evening all round......

Hi, did this race myself tonight. Great course, loved going through the Liberties and having a free reign of Patricks St, Thomas St etc. Had to have a glass of Guinness after all that running around the brewery!! The locals were great for the cheering on. (Especially the smokers outside James'!)

It was really well organised though there could have been a few more portaloos. Despite that, the Royal Hospital is really a great venue - the avenue makes a great finishing straight.

Really enjoyed the race....LOADS of Guards on patrol through the Liberties which was comforting. :) Traffic looked horrendous which made me smile :) Only criticism was the lack of portaloos meaning I had to go in a bush. Ran it in 25:20. 5/5 for me.

had a great time tonight, haven't run/trained in aaaages so was a bit worried about doing it. almost missed the race in the end thanks to work but was determined to make it. It was very well organised, the people manning the bag drop etc were lovely and helpful. The course itself was interesting, as someone else said, it's a part of Dublin that's great to run through unobstructed - and to breathe in the Guinness! Where else would you get such cheering/slagging too??? It distracted me from the aches and pains :)

Full marks to the stewards and Gardai, especially towards the end where we really needed egging on!

Spur of the moment decision to do this race, absolutely delighted that I did.
Well worth the 120 mile round trip .

Well organised event and brilliant to run along such normally busy roads.

Really enjoyed the race, super course, great support, and an amazing amount of stewards. It's a race that deserves to make as much money as possible, as it was so well organised, and it is apparent that people put a hell of a lot of their own time into it.

Thought the ice cream van at the start might of picked the wrong target market though.

I can only reflect what everyone was saying, intersting course, well marhsalled. And kinda cool to see all the streets closed on a busy Thurs evening! Well worth it if even for the experience.

I was wearing a Boards singlet so that must have been me but i did see other Boardies such as Sarfieldsrock and Aero last night.

Never had such a need for a pint after a race before. Between passing Guinness and all the pubs, twas a killer.

Had to laugh at the lads outside one of the pubs who shouted across at me 'Hurry up, you're losing'.

Really good race this, had to laugh at the woman wandering along the road around St James shouting "you're at the halfway line" ... if that had been true I'd have been walking the rest !! Good value for money, nice route, all marshalls really helpful and squeezed in a 24:35 which isn't bad for a slow coach like me

I just wanted to echo the positive feedback - with the number of corners and junctions it must have been a nightmare to marshall. I did notice several marshals at each turn, and loads of Gardai (they were holding back some "overenthusiastic" spectators at Pimlico!) - seriously there must have been almost as many volunteers as competitors.

I just had another look at the website and for those curious about such things, all the entry fee is going to charity, thanks to the main sponsors picking up the tab for all expenses.

And the t-shirt is nice, no sponsors logos all over it.

I think results will be up on the site this afternoon.

I heard her shouting that. I had one of those "Ahhh nooooo, must be more than half way" moments but when I looked at her I realised that she may not have been fully tuned in to her surroundings ;).

We had just passed the 4k marker so I'm guessing she probably had no idea where the start/finish was or how long the race was :)

Great race - thoroughly enjoyed it! And the massages at the end were brilliant! Thanks to all the physios!

Did anyone else think they were being given something else when the guy at the door to the massages handed them the little green packet containing the energy tablet and said "for post-race recovery" or was it just my friends that thought that?!

have to say a nice change to run a well organised race not run by a running club. course was accurate just plenty of opportunities to cut corners up and down pavements. being a runner i literally cut every corner. race leaders had a garda escort every junction was marshalled, good friendly atmosphere. race started at 7.45 and guess what prizes were given out at 8.45 which has to be a record. for once the race organisers were looking for the prize winners, rather than the other way round. even if i came nowhere i would give this race thumbs up and my kids enjoyed it which says a lot.:):)

Really enjoyed this race. Well organised, good value for money, nice course, started on time, well marshalled (there was loads of cops round the course) , free massage afterwards. It's great to do a run for charity where all the money goes to the relevant charity, always slightly wary of races that donate a 'percentage of the proceeds' to charity.

The green packet did case some confusion allright, try one of them this morning instead of my berocca. Can't remember seeing them in the shops.
