Sprain / Strain & ligament problems in Ankle

    Hi all,

At least 2 or 3 times a season, I 'go over' on my left ankle. (I play soccer regularly)

Its incredibly painful, and seem to be a recurring injury the past couple of years.

I've had some physio on it, and been recommended a 'wobble board' to try strengthen the ligaments (it feels like the lateral ligaments, on the upper outside of my foot, below, and to the front of what most people would recognise as their ankle bone).

I really don't know what to do.

Does anyone have any good exercises for building up strength in the ankle, and also maybe help to loosen it up a bit, and increase flexibility in it?

I'm currently using an ankle support, and rubbing deep heat cream on it each day to help with the pain a little - do don't really know if the deep heat helps.

Any help / info / guidance is much appreciated!

If it's recurrent wobble board or wobble cushion are the way to go!

Did you try the wobble board like your physio recommended? Did your physio recommend anything else?

Wobble board is great for ankle injuries, plenty of calf muscle stretching, plantarflexion, dorsiflexion, inversion and eversion against resistance, calf raises and trampoline.

    Thank you both :)

Haven't been on the wobble board yet, its still s little swollen, so I was told to wait until the swelling subsides.

    Wobble cushion??? That's a first!? What's that?

When I think of a wobble board, I think of those 'Saturn with its rings' type things I used to jump around on as a kid! (what were they called?) lol

Defo go the wobble board/cushion route, hopefully start a little over the next few days.

    Thanks again :)
