Sky Sports Summer Deal

Just rang up to cancel Sky Sports and ESPN for the summer.

They offered me 4 months free of ESPN to keep it, but I can ring up again in 3 months and give them 30 days notice to cancel it.

Then after removing Sky Sports, they said they have a deal where I can have Sky Sports for free for the next 4 months as well, but not only that, they will also reduce my bill by 15 quid.

A saving of €27 per month * 4 months.

I got offered that yesterday all right, feck it though, theres nothing worthwhile on in the next few month but I suppose its better than nothing.
This "deal" only applies to existing sports+espn customers who wish to cancel.

one of my friends rang them up to cancle some of the packages sports,music he had the lot.they asked him why he wanted to get rid (he was after geting laid off from his job) and that he coulent afford to pay it .they droped the price to nearly half of what he was paying he was well happy

Must be the odd days when you get them. I rang up and cancelled sports and movies and the woman on the phone couldn't have been more helpfull in saying 'ok, good luck now!'

Now deal yet, think I might have to cut every package other than basic entertainment before I'm offered a deal.

I just rang to cancel sky sports and its was only skys sports 1 or 2 offered for free to september. So if you want the whole package you might have to continue to pay. There is nothing on of note for the summer and the world cup will be on RTE etc so its worth a call.

Just off the phone there thought I was getting nothing till I asked! The only offer he could give me was the ESPN free for 4 months. I was also told I had to give 31 days notice to unsubscribe from sky sports package? Is that right?

They gave me that offer as well, I thought about it and then said no. Then they offered the skysports package for only 6.60 for the next 3 months.

Did you have ESPN before, like paying for it before? Id love to get ESPN for free for the UFC mainly.

I had,
I had Sports package + ESPN.
Said I wanted to cancel both, she offered me 4 months free ESPN. Told her I didnt want it as I would no doubt forget to cancel it in 4 months and I doubt I would actually watch ESPN once over the summer..

I rang to cancel Sky hoping to get an offer, told to write to Sky in Scotland to cancel and they would send an offer out in the post. Got my wish and Sky duelly cancelled my subscription!

Am on the old single wire lnb system with a sky dish ready to fall off the roof so am on Free Sat watching the Europa cup final! (all I need is RTe 1 and that would suit me)

Anyone any idea how long you must be an ex Sky customer to avail of sky as a "new customer"? Really want a Sky + HD box and new dish etc sometime before X mas?
I might get my wife to sign up next time

Not long,I rang up the other day to reactivate my account,had been off for 3 months and was offered a new HD box and free install (Subject to a new 12 month contract ).

me too not a dicky bird, prob would of taken some deal, basically went from having everything inc espn to just basic. saving of 60 a month. not happy with this 31 days notice lark, couldve sworn i was told i could chop and change when i signed up.

In your Sky Magazine of Feb /Mar Sky indicated the 31 days notice + other fees to reduce your package, however if one wanted to upgrade it takes 1 to 4 hours!
I Wrote to Sky on April 29th, they sent me an email indicating cancellation of the contract and cancelled my viewing on May 11th! So much for 31 days. Someone must have been huffy with me

I set up an MVision HD300 DTT/FTA combo (that's RTE digital over an aerial and FTA satelite combined). The result is perfect picture with a subset of the channels. I find that I rarely watch other Sky channels anyway so I'm not losing anything and get my monthly fee reduced to zero. The EPG isn't quite as good as sky but I'm pretty happy with it.

Anyway, I rang Sky to cancel I was on basic + 2. They offered to half my monthly fee for 3 months and throw in a box upgrade. I said I wasn't interested and was able to cancel over the phone, subject to 21 days notice.

2 things:

1. You agreed to a 30 day period in signing up for Sky
2. Yes it is bollocks, other service providers i.e. mobile phones, landlines, gas, esb would probably let you change at your next billing date - be that 1 - 30 days from the time of the phonecall.

I just rang and got offered the same 20%, but that means 14.60 euros a month off the full 73 NON HD subscription - not bad!
(The sky sports package is worth 13 euros a month)

I had to ask if there was any offers though

Justs called that number, got my sky world package (movies & sky sports) down from 73 to 58 euro per month for 6 months. Thanks OP!

Asked to cancel sports and espn, got espn free till september 13th, and sky sports reduced till november , total saving €28 a month. i also have 3 sky boxes in the house, and chanced cancelling one of the sky boxes too, and they gave me 2 for the price of 1 for next year. total savings €43 a month for 5 minutes work

Called the number got through to the Cork call centre and told them I wanted to cancel my ESPN for the summer ( I have Sky Sports World, ESPN and HD ) and he goes grand job that's done for you now! No offer of free ESPN or anything just cancelled straight away

Rang Sky in Cork this morning to cancel the sports and ESPN . Got a nice fella who told me I couldnt cancel until 13th June. Bye,bye and have a nice day. No offer of any kind & I have been with Sky for 15 yrs.:eek:

Its odd that Sky are giving ESPN free for a few months as ESPN are a seperate company,Sky just handle the billing .It must be an offer by ESPN.
I always found the better retention offers were offered by the Scottish call centre,the Irish staff didnt seem to care about holding onto customers.

try again i'd say. i got a nice irish girl, even though i never had a bother with the scottish staff. i have sky sports for 1 and a half years, and espn since start of the football last year. they offered 20% saving on my overall package and espn free till start of next years football. i'm sure if you got the right person they will offer this, i would have though this would be the standard thing they would do when trying to cancel.

i cancelled sky sports and movies for my mother before with chorus after a friend had told me of the great deal a friend got when he did the same, but they just said thats done for you :eek: , i was not expecting it. parents did not really want them but would have held on to them if they offered a cheap deal.

just after ringing Sky in Cork to cancel Sky Sports and ESPN, offered 4 months of Sky Sports 1 or 2 for free and I cancelled ESPN, I will be keeping Sky when the offer ends and I will probably get ESPN back for the premiership

I'd be tempted to cancel Sky Sports for the summer too, but that'd mean I'd have to pay for Sky+ as I don't have movies. Maybe worth swapping Sports for Movies over the summer and then back to Sports come August...

I'm trying to think what sports going to be on the box over the summer...

Isnt that just typical. I rang the bastards a week past last Sunday and cancelled the movies and sports (incl. ESPN) and that was that. All they said was you will be paying such and such an amount from whatever date. :mad:

Once you have any sky package from the basic €22 up there is no extra charge for sky+.
You can cancel sports for the summer and still have sky+ functionality once you have any package with them.

All these discounts are well and good but the fact remains Sky are fleecing their Irish customers .
The Sky Sports pack is £18 in the Uk, its €32 here.
Movies Pack in the UK is £16,its €28 here.
We are being screwed.

You may have had sports with it. Cancelling or adding a second premium package only makes a difference of around €6

However if you were on the basic sub of €22 per month and you add the movies package for example then your monthly payment will be €50

So here's how i got on..

rang up there saying i wanted to leave sky altogether but they convinced
me to stay and i turned of skysports with immediate effect actually...no
mention of 30 days.
A few mins later i rang up to cancel espn and they gave it to me for
free for 4 months

I can't imagine anyone getting sky sports free for the next three months though
but i'd love to hear about it.

so my package for the next 3 months anyway will be 28euro a
month with espn.
Wasn't so sure i was gonna cancel espn as the ufc is my favourite
sport by a mile so happy days here...
If you don't ask you won't get i guess

Threw the letter out but recall the notice period, direct debit fee and some fee for entertaining down graders
