Three have just updated their pre-pay data prices. 1GB data add-on was €10, not it's 250MB for €5.

They have updated the price on mythree.ie but NOT the amount of data. So right now you can get 1GB for €5.

    Buy now!

I'm talking about pre-pay. Edited OP.

Price on a webpage is counted as "An Invite to Sale" so they do not have to honour it.

Please they have now updated the site:

Internet on your mobile Add On

    *

Mobile surfing. Get 250MB usage and surf the internet on your mobile. Use Google or Yahoo to find what you’re looking for.

How to get Internet Add On:
    1. Go to Planet 3 -> My3 -> My Account -> Buy Add Ons.
    2. Choose the Internet Add On.
    3. Purchase the Mobile Surfing 250MB Add On and add to your cart.
    4. Start surfing!

just got their mms video add ... there they even state:

Unlimited mobile surfing for just €5 each month......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,196 ✭✭✭pyramuid man

That is unlimited with a fair usage policy of 250MB. Good wording I hate to admit. Same as meteors offer of"unlimited" also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭OneWayBet

Not sure how they could sell you 1GB and then claim that you are only entitled to use 250MB of it!

Anyway I bought 1GB for 5 euro last week and I've already used up nearly 500MB from streaming Radio Paradise in my car using my N900 FM transmitter from Cork - Dub and back! Got a perfect 3G signal 90% of the way, Kildare seems to be a bit of a blackspot.

Looks like the 1GB is a mistake, just bought up another 4 months worth in case they "fix" it :-). If they do change the deal hopefully they will leave my queued data alone.

Just to confirm, its a full 1GB. Soon they will make it 250MB for the same price. It still works today and you can cue up a couple of 1GB bundles on your account to be used consecutively.

You can buy up to 4 1 month addons, then it says you have reached your max.

A shame that 3 have gone down the route of reducing data allowances. I used to use most of the old 1 gig allowance for Eur10. There is no way I'm gonna pay Eur20 for it now.

There might have been some logic in bringing in the Eur5 250m plan if they kept the old one as well.

Ah rats, I topped up my 3g a week ago and picked up the 1gb for a fiver, ant thought that they had reduced the price. Now I see that they've actually robles the price for 1gb. Sneaky.

Anyone know if it's possible to get a 3g addon for pre-pay on any of the other providors? It's not obvious from the o2 or vodafone sites.

AFAIK 3 is still the best deal by some margin. I was with O2 a while back and they offered 50MB for 99c (24 hours). What I hate about O2 is that the first 50MB costs 0.99 but the next 50MB costs 512 euro (1c per kb). That's a really sneaky pricing, though obviously nobody is going to have that much prepay credit.

I wish 3 went for 500MB instead of 250MB. I have only once came close to using up my 1GB allowance and that was when I was watching 90 mins of Sopcast footie on my laptop sharing my 3G connection over wlan. Some people manage to go over 1GB a month on their phone but I have no idea what they are doing to use so much unless they are sharing their 3G connection over wlan.

Meteor give you 250mb "free" when you top up by €20.

Depends on your usage I suppose. If your spend is very low then 3 is definitely the best. If you are spending 20 a month or more then you should look at the other networks and perhaps billpay.

Note that with Meteor if you exceed the 250MB limit standard rates apply "2c per KB or 99c per day for 50 MB". With 3 when your bundle is used up I'm pretty sure you can just buy another bundle or have one queued up that will kick in (i.e. you dont get charged punitive rates for the excess).

Another great thing about 3 is if you roam in the "like home" countries then everything is charged like home, including your data bundle. On the downside 3 customer care are clueless and they dont itemise your bill unless you pay them 15 euro for a hard copy!

I have it on good authority that 3 will be changing the "250mb for €5" to "500mb for €5" in the next month or so - which, it could be argued, is even better than the original 1gig for a tenner.

Sweet, that would be the best of both worlds as anyone unhappy with the new pricing can still get 1GB for a tenner :)

3 is filtering(by BlueCoat me thinks) any contents what you visit on your computer. Despite having proved that I'm over 18 still the filter was applied(some non x-rated pages were blocked as well). So I rather left them, because who wants hassle? This is my twopennce though might be ok for others.

    On page

    http://www.three.ie/products_services/priceplans/prepay.htm?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=click&utm_campaign=home-angel

    Three refer to :

    3Pay - Prepay from 3.

Top up by €20 each month and get loads of extras.

Switch to 3Pay today and get unlimited anytime any network texts, any network weekend minutes and anytime mobile surfing* with every top up of €20 or more.

So what is Anytime Mobile Surfing* and how do you claim it ?

    Anyone know ?

I topped up by E30 recently and got texts & skype credit but no indication of Anytime Mobile Surfing* credit

All suggestions as to what this is about welcome ( anything to avoid calling 3 )

    Thanks

As Kenny Powers has already said it requires that you purchase a €5 add-on - so the "unlimited" (250mb soon to be 500mb) surfing is NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOP UP - just some shady advertising that suggests it is included on the basis that you can purchase the add-on out of the €20 top up.

You won't be the first! They clarified it on some of their leaflets saying " topup required" but not most leaflets or advertising!

You're pretty insistent on it being free despite being told a few times that it's not Jhmeg!! Checked your balance yet?! Fungus is correct - u can use it but not for free.

    I think it's 99cent per megabyte.

Simply said .... hes wrong ....

when you top up what ever amount of money .....
you get Internet on the handset but you pay roundabout ,50 EUR per MB.

    You can buy a add-on for 5EUR to get 250MB but that's it ...
so Three showed the valued customers that they still can rip us off by increasing the prices by 100% ...

BTW: based on what they've done in the last few months, I doubt that they will introduce 500MB for 5EUR. It wont fit into their overall "price" increases.

Its not free I tired it in fact I couldn't get on the net at all without buying it not even for the 99c per Mb 3 pissed me off over this so I ported to another network as soon as I used my credit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭madhatter76

you must check your settings. If you have positive credit on 3pay and the right internet settings then you are definetly able to access the internet.

check this for the settings ....

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=106942

but be aware .... you have to pay for internet per / MB...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭Kenny Powers

Settings were fine it just kept bringing me to a 3 page about the add on no matter what address I put in except google as thats free anyway. Bottom line is if you top up with 20e you don't get free internet.

Just a friendly advice Dont go near 3 broadband I went over on 1 gig usage limit and they charged me 70 euro.

Then they told me and for ever megabit I used it would be 50 cent for the next 2 weeks so I barely used it the next two weeks and just checked emails for a sec.

    Got charged something like 90euro.

In the end a kind and amazing person on boards helped me out and should be a notice stating that 3 Broadband has dropped there usage limit without letting customers know this fact.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055900085

So I had three weeks too basically get out of contact or face 100euro too cancel 3.

I Sent off the form and canceled the contract. when I talked too them on the phone there customer service is in india
He said too me that oh sir we are really sorry that you are not happy with the data allowance change would you like two free months.

I said not way cancel it. so it ends the end of june for me. It all sounds like 3 is trying too get as much money out of people as they can and they are winning.

Nope. Didn't go online on it afterwards. All spent on voice due to a busy family occasion.

I've emailed 3 asking if the webpage is right. No reply. Surprise surprise. If *anyone* had a similar 3G package I'd be gone in the morning.

Something interesting to bring into this thread ...

Of course there is no 500m in sight for the 5€. *not surprised

So far, since I use more wifi at home which is more stable and faster, I seem to get around with the 250m for basic things.

Remaining Valid from Valid until Expires
    Mobile Broadband (MB)
    Mobile Broadband 233.94 15/06/10 15/07/10 22 days
    Total MB(s) 233.94

Oh but I got a funny text today ...

"From3: Your internet Add-On is low. You can buy a new one with your credit by going to My3. Check your balance in My3 for details. "

    * Yes I know that you shrinked my limit to the bare minimum and I cant believe you are stupid enough to send me such a text. Incompetence must be a key qualification at Three. And I'm NOT an idiot and I'm NOT going to spend 20€ to get back to my 1GB !!!!! (which I maybe don't even need)

Oh and btw .. in case anyone is waiting for this ... :-)
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/23/euro_roaming/
From next week travellers using mobile data in Europe will be cut off from the internet if they hit a €50 bill limit.

New EU regulations designed to prevent huge surprise bills come into force on 1 July.

Mobile operators will be required to warn customers when they reach 80 per cent of the bill ceiling. Those who want to continue using mobile data abroad will have to call to have it lifted.

At the same time the maximum wholesale price per MB of roaming data uploaded or downloaded will be cut to €0.80 from €1. Next year it will be slashed again to €0.50.

(this is the proposal cant find the final document http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/roaming/regulation/index_en.htm)

Since three was already 1cent over the last years regulation they surely try to get over this again. But the new regulation for data will be very interesting. with the current data prices where they charge 6EUR/MB in Germany.

But slowly we can get an abroad simcard and phone / surf cheaper in ireland than with an initial Irish provider. ;)
