Trying to do an all nighter for an immunology exam tomorrow (*bleh!*) so far had about 4 hours sleep each of the last 2 nights, 5 cups of proper coffee this afternoon, 2 caffeine tablets about 2 hours ago and 4 cans of red bull since about 8pm. Just wondering is this dangerous? I feel very tight in the chest and find myself breathing very shallowly and a bit jittery but otherwise very alert and able to study despite already having an exam today, I've been studying since 8 am this morning with an hour or so break and still going strong so its doing what it says on the tin. I seem to remember some kid over dosing a few years ago?

yeah man, all that sugar in the red bulls isn't good and all that caffeine isn't either, drink some water and go to bed and get some sleep

I actually feel pretty good all things considered, I'd love to go to bed but I
wouldn't be able to pass this exam otherwise and it's my final year so it's very important. Generally I avoid added/refined sugar at all costs but this is an exceptional circumstance and I have to put my exams before my liver for this one night. I'm kinda suprised this stuff is legal tbh. Active ingredients are caffeine (thats ok) and taurine which is the bit I'm not so sure of, although I know its an amino acid.

nip down to the local head shop. if you don't pass your exams then get a job in the head shop.

Didn't think of berocca, I use them for hangovers alright, I'll go take a B complex and iron now. Ya I use 85% chocolate for sugar/caffeine too, have some here alright. Had some water there just to be safe too.

Thanks I don't plan on using it again after tonight, its the first time I've tried it but depserate times and all that. I'm at the stage where even strength five freshly ground coffee in triple espresso portions at a go isn't been cutting it, getting immune to the caffeine big time. No exam the day after tomorrow so I'll make sure to get some sleep and have a caffeine and sugar free evening tomorrow after this exam.

Strong coffee is typically a lot higher in caffeine than redbull. Can't imagine the taurine or b vitamins are much of a stimulant. People attribute magical terrible powers to redbull but a triple espresso does a lot more to your system.

Caffeine overdoses are unpleasant and have one hell of a hangover so best advice is to stop the caffeination and eat plenty along with the drink plenty of water recommendation that every one is recommending.

sugar free red bull is the business really.. it does pack a serious dose of caffeine per can.. whatever about caffeine hangovers they are nothing like the highs and lows you will get from the normal red bull due to all the added sugar

youll be grand, you just get an extra big set of wings!:)

It is probably your nerves as well. It sounds like you have a good tolerance to caffine though. One red bull is enough to do this on an exam morning to me.
I'd recommend a minisleep if you can fit it in.
Don't od the water! You dont want to end up setting everything in motion.
    Good luck in the exam!

It is strange, but since mammy and the local garda take it sure it must be fine  -caffeine is a psychoactive drug, make no mistake about it. If it was only discovered a year ago it probably would have been banned along with all the other headshop drugs today. A single 200mg tablet is like a 2L of coke, I remember a mate of mine took 7 and wondered why he felt odd, his reasoning -"sure if its legal it must be grand".

If you are not used to caffeine I would not recommend taking it before exams.

I was awake most of last night to make sure i had all bases covered for my exam today and tomorrow. I was fooked an hour before my exam this morning coffee and double espresso sorted me out. Im pretty tolerant to caffene though but this still does the trick ... and i pissed all over todays exam anc can sleep tonight now as im grand for tomorrows exam.

The shop i work in (on campus) sells little red bull shots and the amount we go through at exam time is insane. Iv never had the stuff so i cant comment on how effective it is but literally the queues are out the door with everyone buying hot choicken rolls and 2 cans of monster energy drink with a shot of red bull.

Monster is teh tastiest! The shots are the same as a can from what I can tell, just concentrated, had a couple before.

Those red bull shots are great, but ridiculously priced:rolleyes:

from what i've seen the effectiveness of caffeine depends on how often your consuming it.. one cup of coffee seems to do the trick for some people but for someone who already has three or four cups a day I tend to need a LOT for it to make any real difference.

O/T but the shop in work sell's "burn" energy drink and a load of my colleagues who are on a diet dont bother with dinner, they have a pack of LFC's and a huge can of burn:pac:

I'm totaly immune to caffeine, I drink wicked strong coffee all the time and grind my own beans not that instant sh*te, when I make a brew I use a big stove top perculator and drink it all without adding any water (basically 3-4 espressos at a go in a big mug) I also use a lot of caffeine tablets aswell this time of year which doesn't help so it does very little for me anymore. The red bull definately works better I was way more focused and able to concentrate than usual esp considering how exhausted I was and how little sleep and food I've had time for of late, I'm pretty impressed with the stuff. With coffee you get wired but can't still can't focus whereas the red bull made me feel very fresh. Anyway went to bed around 4 got up at 8 and crammed like crazy before the exam. It went very well actually no fear of failing which is a christmas miracle I'm still kind of in shock. No more red bull for me know looking forward to a big long sleep tonight and lots of herbal tea tomorrow. :)

Caffeine does nothing to keep you awake, it stesses you out. Its a stimulate and one to 2 cups a day will pick you up, but after a while the effects of caffeine don't work. My advice, take a coffee then a 30 min nap (take the coffee just before you sleep) you will wake up a lot better.

Taking caffeine all day an no rest is no good.

Why have a coffee and then a nap? Do you find it makes the nap more effective? I had an amazing 4 hour sleep after the redbull incredibly lucid dreams, was out like a light within minutes and felt fresh as a daisy then 4 hours later. I do take naps alright when I really need a bit of extra stamina. Over the hump of my exams now though 4 down and 5 more to go (my 2 worst subjects are over with) but I have at least a day between each one to study so will be grand with just the coffee for the rest. Can't wait to never sit another exam again!
