So who is it gonna be this year.
Looking at betting I think Kerry are a great price at 3/1.
Think they have being in the last 6 finals, can they keep it going?
Cork are 9/4, they look pretty strong this year, is this the year they finally beat the Kingdom boys in Croker. Are Cork that strong to be 9/4 favs with Kerry and Tyrone dominating Sam for the last few years?
Think Tyrone at 9/2 and Dublin at 8/1 have gone back a little to be winners come September.
    Mayo are Mayo.
So you will beat the Kingdom and why u reckon so? I know they have lost a few players but they keep producing new talent.

Mayo via the back door, they will go out to Sligo in the first round.

Trying to be as unbiased as possible, but Cork are probably the team to beat this year.

That said, if we only had to play Kerry in the Munster championship, you'd nearly put your house on it (shur the bank own it anyway), but chances are we'll have to play them again.

God is it May already. The red on my car flag has turned orange. Supporting Armagh then!!!

I apologize for suggesting that the 2009 All-Ireland champions will win the All-Ireland again in 2010. What was I thinking...?

Kerry are favourites, they are even bigger favourites then last year considering the plight of Tyrone, Galway, Armagh etc and no, I don't give a **** about league results, or what the media or bookies have to say on the matter. Kerry invariably have the most talented, most natural and best motivated 15 footballers in the country come September whatever the year.

I'm an individual asking another individual not to make a series of deliberately annoying, disingenuous posts over the next four months or so.

If you're not willing to agree then just say so and I can put you on my ignore list till Spetember, but I'd prefer not to since your posts are generally well worth reading.

    It's just a request tbh.

Just for your lack of humour I'm going to be an annoying bastard all year and ruin every Cork/Kerry football thread...

Dublin I hope but probably Cork. We need to lose Leinster and travel a bit to get games under our belt. You never know but we might win it this century. Either way looking forward to a great GAA summer in the rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭aidan24326

This year is a tricky one. I wouldn't be surprised if a darkhorse came out of the pack to win it. Kerry are still good but have lost a few key players. Tyrone are at a bit of a crossroads, they will either kick on and win it again or go back to being a member of the also-rans. I'm not sure which way that one will go.

Down are improving and have a great record in Croke Park. Maybe it could be Mayo's year? Avoid Kerry and you never know. Cork will probably win it if they avoid having to play Kerry in Croke Park, something they've been a bit unlucky with over the last few years. I think this year is as wide open as we've had for a while.

Cork or Kerry. Can't see any of the rest coming anywhere close to those 2.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 884 ✭✭✭spider guardian

I think Monaghan will surprise a few teams this year. Kildare should at least get to the quarter-finals if they can keep up the good kick passing they had last year. I don't think Tyrone are up to much.

Reading today's indo it seems the Dublin manager has already written off his team as 'second-tier'. They'll probably still win Leinster though.

I would find it hard to bet against Cork or Kerry this year. Push comes to shove I would go for Cork, they are capable of getting great scores. If they can tighten up defense they will be in with a great chance.

I have to agree with this. Dubs will play Kildare in Leinster final, no matter who wins won't reach the AI final. Mayo should win in the West, but again can't see them get to AI final. I fancy Down to win Ulster, they are my outside bet to be the only threat to Cork and Kerry.

Mayo... as long as the All Ireland final isn't played in Croke Park...

In the real world, I don't think Kerrys troubles are as great as they're made out to be. There's a crisis every year in Kerry, be it Pony's best position Galvins antics, Gooch drinking, where to play Donaghy, no full back... whatever. I reckon it suits Kerry for people to think they're in disarray.

That said, I do think Cork are best placed to go the extra step this year.

    I see...

...Dublin finally being shown up as the pretenders they've been for the last 15 years. I'm a small bit sick of the hype about the fantastic feats they've achieved by winning so many Leinster titles back to back. Yes, I do realise they can only beat whats put in front of them but the spin machine tended to go into overdrive once they won Leinster. Anyway, I'm not sure of the Leinster draw (any help?) but I think Kildare will come out as champions there. I'd love to see Wicklow give it a good crack.. but alas... not to be!

Up north, I won't be surprised if Down make the step up but Tyrone will always be a threat and similarly to Kerry, they'll be happy for people to think they're finished. Ulster can be so difficult to call, Donegal, Derry and Armagh all have it in them to cause an upset on a given day but I'll go for Down... no Tyrone... no Down... oh I don't know!!

In the wesht, Roscommon to reach new lows, Leitrim to give somebody a scare, Mayo to get dizzy at the sight of the M50, Galway... God only knows what they'll produce. They have the ability to mix it with the best of them on their day but the New York game isn't encouraging. If it was just an off day, they should win Connacht. If not, the bottlers should come through.

In the Cork/Kerry provincial title, its a total toss up I think. Kerry have lost the physicality of Darragh but you can never write them off when it comes to the Cork game. I think Kerry will win Munster but obviously it won't be a surprise if Cork do it.

So the shortlist for top honours is: Cork, Kerry, Galway, Kildare, Tyrone.

    And Wicklow... ahem!

Cork for me. Sooner or later they will shake the Kerry monkey off their back in Croker. I think it will be this season. A very impressive side.

at the moment id say cork but ya never know.i was thinking galway could be outside bets with big joe in charge but the new york game and i heard they lost well to meath in a challenge has me thinking twice.considering ive a lot of good friends that are dubs i wouldnt(even as a meath man)begrudge them an all ireland but as i say they arent at corks level imo.

Has to be Cork For me. Dublin are in a developmental stage with a couple of the 21s to develop into good seniors over the next couple of years. I just think Kerry are short at midfield (would not trust Quirke to replace Darragh). Tyrone going on league form could really struggle if they Don't get Dooher fit. Mayo are decent but were really shown up by an understreghnt Cork in the league final. I really think this year the AI could be won by any of up to 6 counties with Cork being the front runner. Then again Cork v Kerry in Croke park in september is ussually ominous for the Rebels.

I think Tyrone are gone. I'd put it between Cork and Kerry. Hope a new team break through though.

I would like a Cork V leinster semi and a Kerry V Ulster semi. Final Ulster team V Cork
winner..... Cork. I'd be quite happy with that.

    Kerry tbh.

But I think Tyrone are going to have one of those years again when they fly under everyone's radar and cause a few shocks.

    Cork big favourites unfortunately

Kerry will have a shout but the defence is looking a bit old and that combined with the number of losses over the past while - something like 12 players gone from involvment in the squad over the past year or so, means that it will be the weakest looking bench in a long while. A lot will depend on keeping the experienced aged defenders fit.

Tyrone look wounded but can see them doing okay but can't see them winning it.

Can't see anyone else making the breakthrough to the top table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭Pappy o' daniel

Kerry still have the best starting 15, but their bench is lacking, any injurys to key players could hinder them, bigtime.

Cork have the best panel but does Counihan know his best 15? I have doubts about him, it took him a year to realise that Shields wasn't a fullback.

As for Tyrone, Sean Cavanagh is the best footballer in the country and with O'Neil and Muligan they have massive scoring power, however, their backs are aging. Still would not suprise me to see them win it.

Realistically, no-one else has a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭megadodge

I'm quite confident that Cork are the best team in the country this year and won't blow it.

They're experienced enough, talented enough and should be dying to prove themselves after last year. It's theirs to lose.

As for Kerry, I don't think people realise how lost Kerry will be without Dara O Se. They have nobody to replace him in the most important position in the field.

Tommy Walsh and Tadhg Kennelly are huge losses as well. I know it's extremely dangerous to write them off, but I just think Kerry won't be winning the All-Ireland this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,082 ✭✭✭✭Spiritoftheseventies

End of the day same rules apply. Talk "fill in your native county here" chances up at your peril, talk Kerry down at your peril. In otherwords don't believe the hype ;)

Cork look to have the best team and panel on paper but their brittleness mentally when faced by Kerry late on in the year makes them hard to back at the 5/2 currently available , unless of course somebody else takes care of the Kingdom .
Kerry have lost quite a few players , Kenneally I wouldn't be too worried about , Walsh neither provided Donaghy ( who is miles superior to him) remains fit , Dara could well prove to be their biggest loss , as Kerry despite having plenty of capable midfielders don't have one with O'Se's leadership qualities .
In Leinster Dublin are again favourites for provincial honours but don't look good enough to win Sam , Kildare and maybe Wicklow could take a few scalps but it's hard to see them getting close to Cork .
Mayo look the best side in Connacht but it's a different story when they cross the Shannon , Galway play nice football but it's very doubtful that they are nearly good enough .
Have Tyrone gone to the well too many times , at the 4/1 available I'd prefer to wait and see , Donegal struggle to put two games back to back ,
Antrim could struggle under the weight of expectation , Fermanagh are in regression , Cavan still in the doldrums , Monaghan are very competitive but could be lacking a little bit of class . That leaves Derry and Armagh , who play on Sunday , while Derry may win this one I'd see Armagh as being much more dangerous going forward as they were value for more than their winning margin in the D2 final against Down , and if Ronan Clarke comes back and stays injury free they could well be the dark horses of this years championship .

    SOTS,

This is the GAA forum, not Spell Czechs. I'll say this once only, the championship is underway and we will get a whole lot busier between now and September. With this in mind please concentrate on matters GAA and not on grammar pedantry and this forum will run a whole lot smoother.

Really can,t see this happening. Sure Galway have plenty of ability and play a good brand of football, I'd still only consider them part of the chasing pack along with Mayo, Dublin, Armagh and Down. Well capable of beating eachother but on the big stage against Cork, Kerry or to a lesser extent Tyrone I'd reserve judgement.

    'Down' anyone?

They had a very good league. I think them losing in he league final was a blessing in disguise! Some very good young players together with some more experienced players like Benny Coulter. Martin Clarke is a great addition to them also.

Even without the players they've lost there's a seriously strong 15 on the pitch today. I'd say they are well up to it.
