Loose Weight

    Hey Guys,

I'm gonna try again. I've tried before but didn't succeed. Lost about a stone but broke a bone and put it back on (was out of action for 8 weeks).

I'm about 14.5 - 15 Stone again. I want to be about 10 - 11 Stone which is a recommended healthy weight for somebody my age. I want to loose weight from my whole body. Gots a beer belly and have recently in the last year noticed weight appearing on my face and neck aswell as my fingers (I play piano so its a concern of mine). But i'm a big guy so i carry it well and dont really appear to be that overweight cause i'm naturally big kinda Rugby build.

Can anybody who was in my position and has successfully lost 4-5 stone please give me some simple steps to follow. I find the whole weight loss thing very confusing!

My diet is ****e probably because i cant cook for ****e. So this is the first thing. I'm in college funny hours all the time and when i get home i usually cook some ****e out of a packet. Every Friday Sat when i'm home the family eat fast food. And Sunday is healthy dinner day. Were all overweight in the family home.

I have given up drink for the immediate future until this overweight thing is sorted out. I do enjoy a good few pints when im out. I'm off it a week and its not really bothering me, yet. Maybe while on the topic of drink somebody could tell me how all my mates drink as much as me and never gain weight. Should i switch to spirits or do they have less calories?

Gym membership is expired and i have no money at the moment to get a new one. I do have a mountain bike and fixie and can run but not too far.

I am also off college for the summer and have no job at the moment. I was thinking that it may be a good idea to try get a job that involves a lot of exercise. So if anybody can suggest any job where i could incorporate my exercise into my daily work that would do the world of good for three months.
(Not a bike courier though, i think id get killed)

I dont understand the whole diet thing. Must have missed the classes where they were explaining to us what Carbs are and what healthy fats are and saturated fats etc. So a crash course may be helpful. As well as maybe a suggested eating plan keeping in mine my poor culinary skills.

Thanks so much for reading and your help!

    Cheers

    Appleguy :)

P.S Please dont post Read the Stickys. I've read them and i still don't understand what i've posted above.

These articles by one of the posters and a personal trainer on nutrition are very good, many of them deal with weight loss.....

Also when it comes to diet, you will really have to just start cooking i think. Start with the basics and work from there. I, personally don't think someone can eat healthy while living on their own without knowing how to cook.

Simple things like boiling veg (steaming would be even better) or meat.

If your cooking skills really are non existent, why not buy a good beginners cook book. If money is tight, it would be an investment well worth making as it would save you money in the long run. I think Jamie Oliver has one that covers all the basics.

Also there are plenty of exercises that can be done outside the gym with little or no equipment.

If you're a big guy and carry 15 stone well 11 stone is too light regardless of what any guide says. No matter how bad a cook you are throwing a chicken fillet of piece of fish in the over for 30 minutes along with a chopped up carrot, tomatoe and a lash of mushrooms can't be beyond you either.

Start running, if you can't manage a mile I wouldn't worry, you'll get there, jog a bit then walk and jog another bit. Eventually you'll be able to jog a mile, then you'll get to three miles. Once you get to three miles a few times a week and watch the diet you'll start shedding a few pounds. Keep it up ad you'll maintain a healthy weight.

Forget an ideas of loosing 4 stone quickly, it won't happen.

No offense but that kinda low intensity exercise wont have any real effect for a long long time........changing diet is the big battle when it comes to weight loss and then resistance training is the best way to aid it along with interval training.

Have a beginners cook book but never used it.

Could you give some examples of some effective exercises that are not in the gym.

I'm not beyond putting stuff from a packet to the oven but thats not really cooking. Thats heating food that probably isn't great for you anyway.

I'm not looking for a quick fix. I just want a plan in formation for the 12 weeks i am off to make a start at the first stone or two.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055864752&highlight=bodyweight

And resistance exercise is another term for weight training

If you have a beginners cook book, use it.

It is cooking. Get some chicken fillets and the like and start cooking them in the oven. Simple.

Weight training. You don't have access to a gym so doing pushups, pull ups and squats etc will help.
