I'm guessing most posters would respond with something that is considered a classic.

Mine was a '67 Viva HB, a "DL90" (Stromberg carbed) version on the Bull Wall, apparently I had it in top gear before 25 mph and then managed to get all 1159cc of it bogged in the sand :D

    Happy Days.

Learnt in a HB Viva around 1976, first proper drive was on own was my father's succession of company cars, P reg Hillman Avenger estate, Mk IV Cortina DKP633T and early Cavalier RDP351Y. First real regular everyday drive in 1980 was the local council's Bedford HA van (VKL386S, I'm really sad at remembering numbers!), pranged that several times:rolleyes: Bought first Land Rover not long after.

Does it count if I didnt start the engine, but took the handbrake off and left it roll down the drive into the front of the house?? If so then the first car I drove was my Dad's Sapphire Cossie.

If that doesnt count then this post is about to get real boring... my Grandfathers Skoda Felicia with no power steering when I was 15 :(

If it's playing around in the drive, then it's either an Austin 1300 estate or a Volvo 240 estate. If it's out on the road, then it's an Austin 81100*.

*and I'm not anywhere near as old as that statement would suggest. :D

Fiat Uno - then progressed to a Daihatsu Charade 3 cylinder 0.998l.

    first car I drove was a 1972 merk 220 I think.

    like this one
    3669047726_451c913c7f.jpg

It was LHD and I remember the HUGE steering wheel which was hard to see over even with a 2 cushions under me. Was a diesel too so very hard to stall. The pull button handbrake made hill take offs easy peasy and the Power steering was a must for a 10 year old :)
Defo one of the best cars to learn in.
Drove it around in circles for about half an hour then out on the road but managed to place it nicely on a bank when turning into the driveway. Whaaat ! I only knew how to turn one way :D

my first car was an 88 Nissan Sunny and it was only 6 months old and my dad let me drive it cause it was only a rental and he did not give a sh1t about it. Then he let me drive his 78 K30 Corolla.
Funny my first car to be a sunny and now I drive an Almera for an every day car.

First I drove was a Carina A40, first on a road a Fiat Regatta or a Fiesta Mk 2.

Although a Massey Ferguson 35 was considered to be a proper car in Roscommon in the early 80's, did your shopping, went to Mass, school run etc was all done in an MF. So it should by rights be the 35 !:pac:

'86 Ford Fieta, had no brakes and only ever ran on 3 cylinders. Could drive it no bother which meant any decent car I sat into after that was a piece of cake to drive :D

Mine was a Citroen BX belonging to a farmer I worked for when I was 16. (In a field!) The 1st one on the road was a Citroen ZX belonging to the mother! Actually see the ZX now and again in Kildare so I must not have been too hard on it!

A bit off topic but I still have the 1st car I bought myself. (10 years ago now!). I passed my test in it and got my 1 and only speeding fine in it (before points came out) and also got my 1 and only lot of points in it too!!

The first car i drove (not very legal) was the oul fella's 72 Rover P6 2000TC. The lack of power steering and decent brakes didnt do too much to instill confidence in me!

Legally the first car I drove was a 98 Ibiza...

1969 VW Squareback Variant, old mans driving in camp site.

A red Citroen Dyane, all 602cc. I remember being driven very slowly through Phoenix Park till we realised that one of the two plug leads was loose so we had been driving on 301CC!!!

I passed my test in that car.

    This:
    Markus-GS-Rennes.jpg

Kept pestering my father for (illegal) driving lessons.
One day we drove on a small, quiet backwater country road. He stopped on a steep hill, handed me the key and said ...now you drive

(I did manage after a few mishaps ...but ever since then the weird location of the handbrake lever in the GS, on the dashboard!, is etched in my memory)
