    They can be seen here

The fire one kind of reminds me of Cyndaquil and I'm not sure what to make of the one with the springy tail. Exciting :)

Apparently the full images will be shown on the 15th of May

Not necessarily fire, could easily be a flower on his tail. Or 3 blades for a steel type... It's bad enough if they go fire/water/grass again but a 3rd tail-on-fire fire type is really showing how little imagination there is left to scrape out of Gamefreak... but the one on the left does have a penguin flipper / otter head thing going on so you're probably right.

Hopefully the sticky up bits on the one on the bottom turn into a viewtiful joe / cashern style science-ninja V on the awesome plant/fighting pokemon, Dandyfist. Which makes the one top left a flying/fire type with a parachute tail called Paravole and the one on the right is water/electric type called Thundrotter. You heard it hear first!

    Ooo sweet! Kinda excited now!

Why not just upload the image from a site that's not made of fail?

My guess is that the top one is a bunny, and the one on the right is a platypus. I don't care much for the recycled Charmander and Treecko lovechild one the left.

I knew it looked semi-familiar! Seems like they are running low on ideas, that the only thing left is to mash together two random others.

All I see is Chamandaquil, Turtwig and Piplup...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

It'd be great if - as a shocking twist - they do their big reveal and the charmandaquil is actually facing towards the right, and has a giant 3 pronged erection. It's one way of saying "Pokemon isn't just for kids!"

Fire, water, grass. Predictable. My bets are that they're even MORE boring than Gen IV :(

Some nice predictions here, mainly in the comments section. Lulz at the trio of bidoofs.

This was one of the first things that sprang to my mind when I saw the starter silhouettes

I'm pretty sure they always go for Fire, Water, Grass because it's easy for newbies to understand, but it would be nice if they went for something like Fire/Psychic, Water/Dark, Grass/Fighting to make thing more interesting for us experienced players too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Yep, that would be nice if they had 2 types for each starter.

Not too sure I have any thoughts that are printable here about the new starters...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Oh yea, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now...

Also, is it wrong that the only thing that picture hasn't answered for me - is how little the female player character is wearing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,779 ✭✭✭A Neurotic

Grass dude looks pretty cool. Water looks like a scary clown. Fire pig is meh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭spookymuffin

I think that I like the fire pig the most out of the three of them. The grass starter looks like something from a Sonic game (as does Zoroark) and that doesn't sit well with me. I'm really dissapointed with the water starter because it could have been so cute if they just left it as an otter without throwing in the weird snowman elements.

Unless their evolutions look radically different it's looking like I'll be choosing the fire starter on my first playthrough.

Jesus, that looks like bad fan art. An unhappy panda with a woolly jumper? A pig wearing underpants? A snooty looking lizard? Wow, that was worth waiting for.

@TheChrisD - the girl is wearing a waistcoat, t-shirt, a hat and the back of her head is being assaulted by a wookie - how much more clothes do you want? Although technically she's not wearing any pants in the shot so I see your point.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

I feel so disillusioned by those. I really, really hope they evolve into something, anything, better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,523 ✭✭✭✭Nerin

Sigh. More of the same. I suppose i'll wait till i see more pictures, but thats pretty lame. Theres been less designs i've liked since gen3

Yea, I'm talking about the bottom-half. She has a lot to live up to, especially after Dawn's two instances, and then Lyra :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭elekid

So it's basically mini-Flygon, orange Grumpig and an unhappy Mime Jr. in a blue sweater? I'm sure I'll warm to them in time..

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

With the snowman thing, it looks like they could be possibly making the water type a dual water/ice starter to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,686 ✭✭✭Kersmash

Don't like em at all :(

I dunno why, it's not like we see them much in the actual game, but the way the clothes have changed has annoyed me as much as the gradually declining appearance of the pokemon. I miss the days of the basic stuff, they just seem to get more.. trendy I spose. I dunno, I guess that's just me.

Looks like the grass thing has a fin...maybe dual water/grass?

Anyway, grass type has the smug look Treecko has. Terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 695 ✭✭✭Banjo Fella

I quite like the pig! I've got absolutely no idea what's going on with the otter's body, though. He's just inexplicably got a shell embedded in his chest? Okay... hmm, maybe I'll like them more when I see them in game.

I'm disappointed that they stuck with Grass/Fire/Water type starters for the 5th time, it's beyond stale by now. At least it looks as though these starters could potentially have secondary types; Grass/Poison, Fire/Dark, Water/Ice, maybe? I would have liked if they had a second triangle going on - like Psychic/Dark/Fighting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 825 ✭✭✭MatthewVII

Fire starter looks awesome (and easily gonna be the most popular...again)

    Grass type just looks weird.

Water type is odd-looking but weirdly adorable. Look at him in his little sweater!

Did I forget to post this?

"The Pokemon's names are Tsutaaja (ツタージャ), Pokabu (ポカブ), and Mijumaru (ミジュマル). For Tsuutaaja, "tsuta" means "ivy" and "ja" is one way of saying the word "snake." For Pokabu, the name could derive from "po" for "pork," "ka" from the Japanese kanji for "fire," and "bu" is the sound a pig makes in Japanese culture (here it's "oink"). As for Mijumaru, "mijuku" means "immature" and "maru" means "round" or "ball.""
    -Epic Win-Beach

    IMO:
Smug Grass - Oh it's a Snake! (somehow)
Fire Pig - Nothing special, but cute
    Horrid Water Fail - Fail

It'll be the grass starter for me for the very first time (I usually go for fire 3 out of 4 times).

I'm gonna wait to see what the evolutions are myself, I'm not too hot on any of them right now, if it stays like that, I'll prob stick with fire anyway, for tradition

im hoping the fire type evolves into some kind if flaming warthog Somewhere between primape and a flaming pumba from the lion king

The guys generally haven't really been much of a deviant from the whole "generic" sort of look, they just look... normal. Alright, Gold/Ethan not as much, and maybe not Brendan in Emerald. But everyone else, yes.

The girls on the other hand though, look almost as if they're attempting to dress as mid to late teens who want to grow up to be prostitutes. Kris and May weren't too bad, they just looked quite sporty, but Leaf onwards haven't really been great. And what is with receding shorts line?!?!
    *image*

Dear lord, I think that thing's shorter than Lyra's... And she doesn't even have knee-high socks or anything...

Absolutely, not only is it the cutest starter but I bet it's final evolution will be the coolest one too. I shudder to think what those other two will turn into.

This could be the first time I choose Fire..

I think this sums up the general consensus across the Internet about this:

(If it doesn't work, try http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l2btejUfPU1qapgvbo1_500.png)

EDIT: Back on about yer wan, now if they'd done something like this with her, then she'd go very well with him as a pair of proper generic kids/teens/whatever: http://i42.tinypic.com/wufo06.jpg

Pokebeach keeps timing out at work, so until I get home I'm ordering you to suspend all talk of teenage cartoon girls in short shorts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

I always find myself lusting over the girls. It might not be healthy, especially as I get older... But I'm liking the receding shorts line!!

Lusting after girls is fine. Lusting after cartoon girls is a little odd but since the cartoon is a representation of a woman you can argue that it's healthy enough as an expression of your attraction to the traits of femality that the cartoon represents rather than wanting to dip your wick in a celluloid inkwell. Lusting after a cartoon eleven year old is just wrong....

You realise it was a joke, right?

    Edit: And they're ten.

Looks very impressive. The game engine seems to be a lot faster as we can see from the speed that the hp goes down when theres an attack

Looks pretty good, the shifting camera is a nice addition. I already don't like that Zoroark though.
