What that was, Mr Onesimus, was light from the sun refracting off the Earth's atmosphere. Nothing out of the ordinary!

Was it moving slowly? If so then it was a chinese lantern.

a chinese lantern would not be a big massive flame in the sky, i would be a orange dot, that would look out of place and weird, and would hardly cause someone to go into shock and drop there ciggy,
unless op gets excited easily :D

its the space station, its passing over again tomorrow night and for the next few days if people want to see it.

Space stations don't blow up in a fireball. Fire can't exist in the vacuum of space.

Probably just a meteorite, unless there was something in those cigs of yours.

Possibly a chinese lantern passing by a flock of birds that just farted ,would account for the sudden burst of combustion.

I'm telling you this thing was on fire and it was HUGE, someone MUST of saw it? I've never seen anything like this in me life honestly. :(

The only thing I could think of was that it was something that blew up in the sky and that it could of been the space station.

Only someone who saw it will get what I'm on about.

I certainly hope not :( but this looked like it was definitely in outer space.

Would be some fireball/serious amount of ash to take out an entire airline.

If the space-station blew up it would not make a big ball of fire because it's in space.

Could have been a migrating flock of birds ,a few hundred ,who ate at the same time before leaving.
When they passed the chinese lantern and farted all at the same time.

Look at all these people who don't understand science.

It doesn't matter that space is a vacuum. The spacestation has everything you need for an explosion: Fuel and oxygen.

I'd say with the amount of people here smoking outside pubs on a Saturday night, not to mention amateur astronomers and vampires many thousands must have also seen it and it will be on reuters pretty soon.
