Amazon market place seller "gzoop" is selling The Lord Of The Rings Blu Ray Trilogy new for 16.56 pounds + 1.79 for shipping.

I was going to wait for the extended Blu Ray Cut release but at about 22 Euro I thought this offer was too good to miss, It's by far the cheapest I've seen. Ordered it yesterday (Friday 7th May) and got despatch notification a few hours later.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B001SEQKJ2/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1273274695&sr=1-1&condition=new

EDIT :- The sellers offer appeared and disappeared quiet regularly it must be something to do with allowed stock quantities on Amazon Market Place, some friends reported the same back to me. They all got one eventually , my advise is just keep an eye on it.

Superb price... had to be bought at that!

My 2 disc DVD theatrical editions will be going up on Ebay / Adverts (Fellowship of The Ring was bought for a mad €35 on release from Xtra-Vision).

    Many thanks OP.

Well my order went through but must have been the last one as that seller does not come up on the list anymore...

It's not expired it's back in stock at the moment. It must be to something to do with amazon market place, maybe the seller is limited to what he can add to the available quantities.

That is theft. I can only imagine the price tag on the extended versions when they come out.

Thanks for that OP, picked up a copy of LOTR there earlier.

For anyone thats interested I picked up Band of Brothers on Blu Ray for £10.63/€12.30 delivered to Ireland. I purchased it through the same gzoop retailer on priceminister.co.uk. The price is £13.99 (ex delivery) but I used the voucher code PRICE1045 (worth £5) and it brought the price down to £10.63 (including delivery). I paid €50 for the BoB dvds a few years ago but I couldn't leave the blu rays behind for 12 quid.

Its for new accounts but I think I managed to get around it. I did use the £10 PriceMinister code last week and the first time I tried to buy the dvds it wouldn't let me use the code. I think it picked up on my credit card details or something. I registered a new account and paid with my visa debit card instead of my credit card and it went through.

I just can't justify it when you know the extended editions will hit sooner or later.

Yes me neither and the despatch note says just "Lord of the Rings Boxset", no mention of Blu-ray so hope there won't be any mix-up.

But for how much? I am not a fan of the trilogy as I have never seen it before so if it turns out that I enjoy these then I may upgrade to the extended edition.

If I don't like the films then I will have lost €22.

Was really looking forward to getting this and was excira and delira to see it at this price... but not at my own pc and don't have my amazon password. They are looking for a postal code to change the password, which I don't have. So looks like I'll miss this.

Thanks for the BA anyway, OP.

I'd Imagine these didn't sell as well as was expected by the "greedy" studio's, you only have to look at the reviews on Amazon and play etc to see there is complete outrage that the extended editions where not release. I'd say the levels of overstock are quiet high.

The reviews are not a reflection on the standard release version which are a fine set of movies, the quality of the transfer to HD is good to excellent and has got some good reviews. Also lets not forget it was these versions of the films that where nominated and won awards.

I personal am a big fan of the LOTR and felt some of the outrage that turned many people of buying these upon their release. The new release price was outrageous, I suspect had the price been at the 30 Euro mark to begin with the fans would have been more forgiving.

In my opinion at this price it the are defo worth getting, I'm glad to see so many agree.

Thanks OP kept refreshing the page and eventually got it at your price. Seems to appear and once an order is placed it disappears. Cheapest now is £29.91. Anyone looking to bag one should just keep refreshing the page. took me about 40 mins or so.

Ah but you must respect you are in the minority there.

Many fans got burned buying the theatrical releases and then the extended versions on DVD.

To go through the same process again on Blu Ray is a bit disgraceful.

I understand your point about which release won the awards but IIRC you could simply play the theatrical version from the extended editions anyway although I am open to correction on that.

It would be great if you could, but that's not an option on the extended edition DVDs unfortunately; I just double-checked to be sure.

To be fair, with regard to the quality of the theatrical editions of LOTR on Blu-ray, Warner Bros. dropped the ball completely and didn't even consult Peter Jackson on how the Blu-rays should be produced. This sort of action is typical of Warner Bros. though, as they have a habit of doing things by half when it comes to some Blu-ray releases, e.g. lossy audio on Speed Racer instead of lossless.

Anyway, great price for this set, even if it isn't the extended editions.

The extended cuts were announced at the same time as the DVD and Jackson repeatedly told fans that the extended cuts would be released 6 months after the theatrical cuts as he needed the extra time to do adr, effects, etc. It was not some money-making scam aimed at getting fans to fork out twice unlike say the initial DVD release of Zodiac whose only special feature was a trailer for the directors cut, which was a scam.

Also, according to bargain blurays, GZoop is the Amazon Marketplace face of The Hut group.
