Would it be better to burn off any excess fat first and then do sit-ups or do a bit of fat burning followed by sit ups and alternating between the 2? Obviously dieting and all that is being done.

    What is fat burning exactly?

Chances are you have a six pack but it's hiding beneath your belly fat. You really have to work on the diet to get the ab show going. Do you do any training, weight lifting etc?

train your entire body with resistance including abs but no need to overdo it the main prerequisite for visible abs is low bodyfat,so you may aswell do it simultaneously...the more toned muscle you have on your frame the quicker your metabolism=fatloss=visible abs,use free weights and compound exercises on all the major muscle groups of the body 2-3 times a week and do h.i.i.t cardio immediately after, carbohydrate manipulation is a massive priority when trying to lose fat, start the day with your largest carb meal and gradually curtail this over the course of 4-6 meals, going to bed you want little to no carbs in your stomach so have your last carb meal approximately 4 hours before bed...
