Shane 'O Donoghue makes himself useful for once.

Mad how the players get straight back into it so quickly.Rory had one night to relax and take it all in and straight on to a practise round at TPC.

Nice to see Rory pinging it close and Tiger hitting provisionals.:D Still hasn't sorted out the driving then.

Great video, never saw a pro playing with anything but a white ball before. Have much players in the past played with different coloured balls?

Great find soundsham, if the volcanic ash clears I hope to be watching McIlroy in person Friday-Sun at TPC, really looking forwards to seeing him play up close along with the rest of the amazing field assembled at Sawgrass. Fingers crossed

Not usually one for betting, but I won a few quid on Kim in the Masters, so withdrew some and putting the rest on...

    Rory Mc for Top 5
    Woods to Win
    Marino for Top 10
    Na for Top 10
    Quiros for Top 10

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭In_tuition

Kim (%99 likely) won't be taking part, in case anyone is considering a bet on him.

My preview is available here on Paddy Power for anyone interested.

One interesting factor surrounding this week's event is Tiger & Phil and the world number 1 spot.

A win for Phil combined with a finish outside the top 5 for Woods would see Mickelson ranked number 1 golfer in the world.

Come on Big Lefty!!!! Would absolutely love to see him knock Woods off the No.1 Spot! Be great to see someone who actually cares about the fans at no 1.

    From pgatour.com :

"Tuesday, Woods hit five balls in the water during a nine-hole practice round at TPC Sawgrass, according to the Associated Press. He’s also coming off just the sixth missed cut of his career and the return from this layoff has obviously been different than when he came back from knee surgery.
“Very different,” Woods said of this return to the game. “This is more taxing away from the golf course with a lot of the things going on, paparazzi following me. I certainly didn’t have the distractions last time getting ready for events. Helicopters don’t normally fly over on the range and hover and film you. That wasn’t the case then, but that’s the case now.
“I’ve had two different low moments. Obviously what I’m going through now and then my father’s death.”
Emotionally, has that had an impact? “Yes, definitely,” Woods said. Physically? “Absolutely.”
In terms of what Woods is working on with his game right now: his posture and takeaway, along with getting more width in his swing.
“I know what the fix is,” Woods said. “It’s just a matter of going out there and executing it consistently over 72 holes.""

Posture and takeaway? Not so sure about that. And if it was such an easy fix, it'd be fixed by now.Another missed cut on the way?

why is that a crap draw?for the crowds, yes maybe, for Rory ? no ,not at all,

Playing with Anthony Kim, he wanted to beat that guy bad and he did it. Doubt the same motivation will be in it with boring Choi and nobody Hass.

Himself and Scott McCaron were shooting great scores together on Saturday. That's what got Rory started.

you're joking right? he's playing the bloody course not the player, granted playing with Kim may have helped but you still have to hit the shots,

    Bill Haas(aka the nobody),Career Earnings $6,181,501
and KJ,very solid player, hitsa lot of fairways, has a great tempo ,would be a help more than a hindrance imo

So Bill HAAS (not Hass)is a nobody, but Scott McCarron isn't?McCarron's won 3 mediocre PGA Tour events in his entire career.Bill Haas is 27 and has a win already. One PGA tour win this season, just like Rory. So, as far as the Tour officials are concerned, they're on a level playing field and perfect to put together.

KJ Choi is a world class player on his day and capable of remarkable birdie runs.If you doubt that, I point you towards his 2nd place finish at Transitions and 4th at the Masters this year, during which he played some amazing golf.Boring?

Either of those players are capable of going on great runs and likewise inspiring Rory. Also, Rory's stated that Anthony Kim is one of his best friends on the PGA tour, so I don't really buy that he 'wanted to beat him bad'.Show him what he could do, certainly, but he'd be like that with any playing partner.

I'm sure he was real motivated to beat the well known Scott McCarron
Bill Haas and especially KJ are certainly not nobody.

It was clear the only thing McIlroy's mind was tp shoot the lowest score he could and win a tourney, both on Saturday and Sunday. Kim mattered very little if anything as Rory had tunnelTiger vision going on from the way he was playing.. I thought that was very evident watching him play on Sunday.

    Some other pairings :

Sergio, Boo Weekley, Dan Chopra. This pairing tickles me I have to say.Moody, serious Sergio, probably driven mad by upbeat, fun loving Boo.But who knows, it could lighten Sergio up a bit, could be a good thing for him.

Y.E.Yang, Sean O' Hair, Robert Allenby. Serious talent and potential winners.

Westwood, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler. Interesting contrast in styles between Westwood and Fowler.Controlled and conservative Westwood vs the wild fast swing and (usually) agressive play of Fowler.

Tiger, Hunter Mahan, Ian Poulter. Interesting given whats gone on.You get the impression Poulter has the type of personality that would grate on Tiger. But he'll have bigger things to worry about than putting Poulter back in his place this week.

Geoff Ogilvy, Kenny Perry, Padraig. Again, serious talent and all more than capable of winning.Should be some great golf from that group.

Phil, Ernie, Dustin Johson. I'm going to dub this group the '325 yard bomb followed by a 80 yard wedge' group.Should be fun to watch.

Great field, very much looking forward to it.Looking at Martin Kaymer to do well.

I probably wont even watch it, too many nobodys for my liking playing ha ha

Joking aside another class field, would love to see Mcelroy kick on this week again but it will be interesting to see if he can sustain his form for a second week, very few players seem to be able to achieve this given they put so much into one event. I think he will finish top 5, fancy Westwood to do well !! maybe Mcelroy 's tongue in cheek remarks to him might spur him on lol

McCarron is a very good professional golfer.

He has been plagued with injury in recent years and considering he gave the game up completely in his early 20's (to work with his uncle I think) I admire him for making a decision a couple of years later that he wanted to be a professional golfer.

He came back and tied 10th in the Masters as well as a victory. The following year, 1997, he made ten top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour including a win in the AT&T (BellSouth then). He won that event once again in 2001. And in 2001 I think he finished 15 straight events within the top 25 and a handful of them within the top 10. He produced results like this until 2006 when he suffered an injury that plagued his game.

McCarron came back from a injury a couple of years ago to secure his card on the PGA Tour for 2009. He hasn't had the same results as previous times in 2010 but he showed he's coming back to himself with an impressive T-7 at Quail Hollow last week.

One player to keep a very close eye on in the coming months and he should not be underestimated.

    Michelson win
Curtis, Rollins, Weir, Dustin Johnson and a small bet on Fred Funk all e/w

Poulter is a prick though, honestly.

Did you hear him screaming like an ignorant pig?

I know they were all having a laugh and there was plenty of shouting but he still has to have the last word, shouting loudest for longest.

Why do they always say the TPC is ther strongest field in Golf?
what makes it stronger than a major or a WGC?

You have the top 50 in all of them.

Not sure, but is it something to do with the timesheet at Majors always having a smattering of past-winners who are no longer competitive, amateur champions, that kind of thing?

It probably only amounts to a handful of guys, but if you replace the "ceremonial" players with competitive ones, allbeit from further down the rankings, the field is technically stronger... and it only needs a tiny difference like that for them to use the marketing tag line "the strongest field in golf".

I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

I think the PGA usually has the toughest field despite it been the lesser of the 4. They usually have almost all the top 100.

Because the top 125 players on the money list from the previous year take part.

There is only 40 of the top 50 in world golf rankings playing this week.

If any of your family or friends have sky sports but dont have a laptop or pc, ask them for their sky viewing card number & you can set up sky player on your laptop.

The reason I say they shouldnt have a laptop or pc is you can only register 1 computer to the viewing number.
