It was a good comp and the turn out was very good but

1 the comp was held on a slight hill (alot of athletes where not happy)
2 it was run too slow
3 most of the crowd left because it draged on
4 They dont allow forigners who are now reident in Ireland and allowed to vote in the comp
5 no warm up area for the athletes

Thats a bith at the Irish Strength Association who are an English based company.

It was very close which is a great reflection on the athletes with Martin Gallen shocking a few people.

There was a lad from Dublin Eoin ? he was awsome for a guy never seen before and gave a great performance well done to him.
But i wonder did the deadlift take too much from him?

James Fennelly won but he worked very hard for it he had a savage deadlift and atlas stones.

We had 29 athletes take part in the All Ireland League in Waterford the week before with a great standard in both novice and senior and we where dubbed amatuers.

Agree with the points above, I left early as my wife whose pregnant got fed up of standing up!
Fennelly is some size of a man.
Was also great to see Nigel Troy of WWTC doing well, the fact that they ruled one of his deadlifts not a full lift (345kgs i think) and he had to left again, I think got to him, Ive seen him train in WWTC and he is an animal!! Did James Fennelly have surgery on his shoulder lately Im sure I spotted a major scar on the back?
Must get back training myself......dont worry Im not with in an ass roar of those guys, been out injuried the past 8weeks.

Foreigners weren't allowed to compete? Sounds scanty enough to be honest.

This was the bit on TV3 about it -before it was on
    http://www.tv3.ie/videos.php?video=22050&locID=1.65.74&date=2010-04-30&date_mode=&page=2&show_cal=2&newspanel=&showspanel=&web_only=&full_episodes=

has a guy doing push presses with a 70kg dumbbell, I think it is Nigel mentioned above.

The Irish Strngth Association only allow you compete if you have an Irish passport, funny cause Glenn Ross has an English one.

The deadlift was a disaster as the ground was slopped so the bar was going away from the guys so this pissed alot of them off, im sure Nigel suffered as a result of this.

James was injured at Uks Strongest man last year hence the scar, he put his shoulder through the lamp of a truck and got alot of stitches.

We run a league with a novice section if you ever want to give it a go we had 29 athletes at our last comp in Waterford.

Yeah, he's from Co Down though isn't he? Still, if someone's living here and has an interest in participating they shouldn't be turned away on the basis of nationality like.

Lads question i was asked today without starting another thread...the competion log with no weight added...how much does it weigh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 getreadytogrow

Jez thats right I remember seeing James Fennelly verus the truck incident!! and he stayed going! must have got a hell of a lot of stitches or a bad doctor!!

Was hard to see from were I was but yep there was definately a slope on the ground, this must have definately affected people.

Yep that was Nigel Troy on TV3 with the overhead dumbell press.

Where is the amauteur comp on in Waterford? I haven't been down to the WWTC in over two months since the injury, just tipping away at home between physio sessions, must get down to pay my dues soon!!!

once you are living in Ireland you should be allowed in the comp + way too many people are barred from entering over personel stuff.

Logs can be any weight raw it depends on the steel ect
There is no set weight for a log only specifications
Most logas are between 40-60kg empty

Eoghan Graham. Chaps a fcuking monster. I hate how strong he is. I've watched and trained with him in Total Fitness for like the last 2 years and he's just getting stronger and stronger all the time. His over head strength's stupid. I've seen him do 1 arm push presses with like 75kg for 5 reps!! :o

Eoin was very impressive but he needs to compete in comps to gain experience but he is a serious thret to Jame Fennelly next year if he can get experience
