Humourous Tips for the Opposite Sex on dating sites.

    I frequent dating sites.

They make me laugh and get me dates. Some wonderful funny nights were had on many the occasion and the odd ducking out for a smoke and running like a handbag thief to get away from the nutters.

Anyway, I just thought it would be funny to share some observations and gain some feedback from the other silent majority who use them and then pretend like you met through mutual friends or in Coppers.

    1. Uggos, stop posting pictures of you hiding in a gaggle of your mates. (That's me in the middle is a usual example, cue pic of lady hidden behind some stunner, increased traffic click, yes. Increased dates, nil. Having a visual line up in one pic, well it's blind date suicide.

    2. Sex sells, get a low cut top pic in there. Men are stupid and shallow. Deal with it. Online dating sites are full of stupid and shallow people, like me. Yes. Like me ;)

    3. Post current pics. If you're 30 posting pics of what you looked like ten years ago, you're getting stood up dear. Don't do that to yourself.

I'll leave the floor open, and before people start quoting parts of this thread and saying oh my god you're shallow and horrible and no wonder you have to resort to dating sites, lighten up, I'm exaggerating for the sake of AH, yes deep down I'm just another lonely old soul searching for Mrs Right and sleeping with Mrs Wrong.

Remember that really hot girl you were meant to meet in Kylemore on O'Connel St. and it turned out to be a fat middle aged man with a box of chocolates? Yea, that was me.

    4. Get pics and call. He's out there.

I was going to say ring but that gets him excited.

I have dabbled in dating websites a bit.

You do come across some nutters for sure.

    1. I had 'obsessed with threesomes guy'
    2. Worked with my ex guy
    3. a Stalker
    4. Went on to become a minor celeb
    5. Various sex pests

Just for the record, I didnt meet all of these people. I would generally try to weed out the oddballs before meeting.

I have met some decent people via dating websites.
Actually 'threesome guy' shared some of his anecdotes as he was big into the dating sites. He told me that he arranged to meet a girl, he was due to collect her and when he saw her in person she was much larger than her picture on the side led him to believe so he just drove on and then called her from down the road and told her he was ditching her because she was fat.

    1. Don't tell me after two emails that you're going to come down from Meath on your tractor and pick me up. Although there's probably never a good time to slot that one in.

    2. Don't email me from America saying that you come over to Ireland on business trips. If I was looking for quick shags, I'd just go to a nite club.

    3. Bad spelling, bad punctuation, bad grammar . You're trying to sell yourself through the written word, it's all I have to go on so make a frigging effort and get a friend to check it for you!

    4. Don't have pictures of you with your ex on your profile. It tells me you're still pining for them!

    5. Romantic dinners and walks on the beach (TM) are all well and good, but it's hardly something you do all the time now is it? Unless you're going out with a string of women, in which case you can bog off :p

    6. Be yourself :pac:

That is something I do all the time! As is making sure that there's fresh flowers all the time. Not hard to be romantic. I think people just expect too much/are expected to do too much.

I've frequented dating sites. Some tips:

    1. Avoid posting pics of your attractive sister and passing them off as you. Especially if you resemble the Exxon Valdez.
    2. Don't launch into tales of woe on a first meeting.
    3. Beg, buy, borrow or steal some social skills if you don't have any.
    4. Never assume you'll get on as well in real life.

    Marry me!:)

For some bizarre reason, I have never once gotten flowers from men I was seeing. Despite dropping heavily disguised hints such as 'Will you buy me flowers?' Hmmmm maybe I was being too subtle!

    I do :D

I will send flowers to the workplace, or bring some home. Every 2 weeks or thereabouts (depends how long the flowers survive). In all honesty though, I dont see why not. It doesnt take much to do a little. Saying that, women have always screwed me over!! (Not in a good way!) *shakes fist :pac:

See that's your problem. Flowers should only be used sparingly. Every 2 weeks and the effect is going to wear off.

You're being way too nice, personally I like a guy who's sound and treats me like a princess but still has it in him to act like a psycho every now and then esp if I push him too far. You want someone who has a bit of a b*astard in him cos its manly, otherwise it makes him to wimpy and easy to abuse. Be a bit more of a pr*ck the odd time and you'll be grand but be sure and balance it out by being perfect the rest of the time! :D

Lol what? :D Am I missing something here? :p Nah I went out with a guy who was way way too nice before to the point where it almost seems desperate and I find that a bit hard to respect for some reason after a while. You want a guy with balls and the odds are if you're buying flowers that often you're too soft. Personally I need someone to stand up to me as I get too bossy otherwise and I respect a fella that puts his foot down and tells me to cop on every now and then (obviously only when I need to be told ;)). Finding the balance between being sweet and romantic but still strong and masculine is important and above all else don't come across as being desperate (like don't be buying flowers every 2 weeks in the first month of seeing someone who was otherwise a complete stranger to you).

No because they didn't like flowers. I always bought them things I knew they actually liked.

I wouldn't buy flowers for a man just to show I'm down with the equality thing. It's pointless and a waste of money

Some men would find it a rather nice gesture, it has nothing to do with equality. On Valentines this year my girlfriend bought me a rose and while I don't like flowers or particulary like them I still found the gesture very nice.

I never understood this mentality with some women that they should recieve flowers from the person they are seeing and will go so far as to drop blatant hints. If he wants to buy you flowers he will, if he doesnt and you rate the gesture so much then leave him.

You're right. How dare I ask my boyfriend for anything! I should just sit there like a demure little woman and let him guess what I want, because men can read minds and love to guess what women want :pac:

i dont really get the whole dropping hints thing

if he buys flowers spontaneously- great

if he only buys them because he was strongly encouraged to, then, imo, its a meaningless worthless gesture. i'd sit there looking at the flowers and think "he only bought them cause i dropped hints, he didnt actually want to buy them for me" and immediately i would lose any enjoyment derived from them

When it comes to expecting gifts you should'nt ask for something for to do so makes the subsequent gift valueless.

Ah I know I was only messing ;) In my experience as lovely as the little things are as the years go by in a relationship the bigger things can be appreciated too though leading onto my next point..

No, I disagree and I think it depends on the relationship. Me and the boy have been together 6 years, we live together, share money, bills, a car etc and are usually broke (students). I always ask him what he wants for a gift because we can't just afford to go and buy things we want when we feel like. Although he didn't ask for it I got him the xbox because I knew he wanted one but would've felt too guilty spending our money on something just for him. If he'd asked for it specifically I wouldn've had no problem with that at all.
At the stage we're at we se christmas/birthdays/anniversaries as a chance to get something we wanted for ages but hadn't been able to justfy spending the money on. Theres plenty of room for romantic gestures aside from getting gifts anyway. Personally I prefer handpicked wildflowers, far more romantic when its possible.

There's a difference between what you and your boyfreind do, (me and my girlfriend do the same as were also broke students) and what the original poster I was respondign to did. They seemed to expect whomever they were seeing to buy them gifts and when they didn't they would drop hints/tell them what they wanted.

No it was flowers, not gifts. Which, by the way, can also be picked for free. Flowers are nice to get as you've said yourself, so why is it a problem that I would like some flowers and asked for them?

Boy do you have an axe to grind with me! You can PM if you want, this thread is about tips for dating sites
