Hi, I am looking for a bit of info from junior infants teachers.
I am a Montessori teacher and I am looking for advice/tips on preparing children in getting ready for primary school in September.
Is the school day filled with structued activities or is it more play based. I often wonder am I doing too much with the kids or not enopugh.
Do you find it easier or more challenging working with kids who have attended preschool. I sometimes think that because we do a lot of play and child directed activities that they get a shock when they enter primary school.

The best preparation a play-school can give is in social skills, like turn-taking,selfcare skills like closing buttons, managing their own lunch and motor skills like cutting.Too many playschoools try to be "pre-school" and do things like phonics, number work, prereading, so that the childre may actually be bored in Junior Infants.
