Ok ladies - I have tried shopping and it is not happening. I am not into the style that is out at the mo - the leggings and layering of Tops etc.. I guess I am more of a classic girl. But I am not able to find clothes I like at all.

Has anyone ever used a personal shopper? If so how did it work? How did you go about it? ETC...

    Thanks in advance, S

I did one once with a friend in one of the big department stores in Liverpool. To be honest, I found it brilliant. I would always have been a pretty confident shopper but really it was great to see what other people pick out for you. In particular, she talked me into trying on a dress in a colour that I had not worn literally for years - it was the colour of my uniform in primary school and I'd HATED it. I wasn't aware that I'd absolutely avoided it up til then. I tried on that dress and was stunned at how well it suited me, I get compliments every single time I wear it and have bought loads in that colour since.

So it's good for mixing things up a bit. In our case, the lady gave us a form to fill in about what kind of clothes we were interested in (e.g. office wear, casual daytime, more formal daytime, nighttime, etc) and about what we wanted to emphasise on our bodies, etc. Then we walked around the different departments with her, she picked out tons of stuff. We had a private dressing room area to try on all the outfits and as we went through the first lot, she realised what we each did or didn't like and went off to get more things based on that. It was great fun, the service didn't cost a penny extra and there was absolutely no hard sell at all.

I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much on my own though, I might have felt like I was under more pressure to buy things but I would definitely recommend doing it with a friend. Hope this helps a bit!

As our session was on a Saturday, I think we just rang up a couple of weeks in advance of our trip over and made an appointment.

Was it expensive, fionaf? Or do you just pay for the clothes you buy?

I heard they do it in topshop in dubin and afaik you just pay for the clothes but there is a min spend maybe a couple of hundred but then you'd barely get an outfit for a hundred in topshop these days..

I'd be interested to hear peoples experiences too .... what way does it work. Is there a minimum spend?

I did it about 18 months ago in Arnotts. I just booked the appt. turned up. You go to the info desk on the day and they call the personal shopper down.
We sat down in an office/room, I was brought coffee. We had a chat about lifestyle and what I was looking for or to change about my wardrobe. She then went and brought loads of thinks in and I tried them all on. She explained what would suit my shape and size etc.
there was no charge for it and there was no obligation to buy. I did buy a coat (which I had needed and wanted) and also a dress. I have gotten lots of wear out of both since and get complimented every time I wear them.
AFAIK most large dept stores have them and work the same way.
