Why do you keep closing the shin splint threads.

I do have a point to make, and I’d like to share it with others.

The shin splints thing is just an example.

It really is one of those where lots of people will have had em and lots of people will have gotten rid of em.
Now it’s a good example of where too much advice is not needed.

The person said he had shin splints , and wanted the cure.

If you go off down the road of fallen arches, sole supports, blood clots and every other leg injury you’re gonna scare the bejaysus out of him.

I’m interested in hearing what others had to say who have had em and what was required to fix them, the time period involved and if they come back.

But I didn’t get to hear that because the thread was closed once shin splits got built up into more than they are. That’s frustrating. Please explain why you closed it.

There in lies my point. Let the discussion flow. Injury story sharing is a good thing. Don’t stifle it.

Funny you should mention blood clots. I went to the doc recently after getting a serious kick to the leg – shine area. Swelled up like a tennis ball. The wife was convinced it was blood clot. The doc just laughed. He said you only get blood clots if you have a history of blood clots, otherwise you don’t get em. Now that is my story – not meant to be expert advice but useful for placing a bruise on the leg into a realistic context.

    If you get my point.

I think the charter states that we can't hand out any medical advice on any conditions in the Fitness section, i may be wrong but that'd be my best guess.

    From the Fitness Charter:

    No medical instruction

For legal reasons it would be nice if people could refrain from posting medical directions. This is an advice forum, and while there will likely be borderline cases …

You are advised that nothing you read here is to be taken as gospel - what is right for one person is not always right for everyone else - so double check any advice with a doctor if unsure. In addition dosages of any supplementation need to be tailored to your needs - again, double check.

No doubt it is but 'see a doc' is usually followed by 'thread closed' before experiences are shared.
    There's a difference.

It is because reading others experience may lead to incorrect self diagnosis, meaning they wont go to a doctor until the problems gets much worse and irreparable damage has been done.

If you cannot grasp this then.......

As with any internet forum, there are rules, there is limited freedom of speech, if you dont like it then.... etc etc

Let me make this very clear to you: If you start another thread in this forum on this subject without prior approval you will get a ban. I replied to you giving you clear instructions on how to go about giving this kind of feedback in general. If you wanted an open discussion you should have PM'd me.

Ok, whatever you're doing with the font thing, can you stop doing it please? That's just a general request and nothing to do with this. If you have no idea what I'm on about, try quoting one of your own posts.

Yes, but you see the reason I had shin splints is different from the reason you had shin splints and so on and there are lots of reasons that someone could have pains in their shin.

And that is exactly the problem. The person has self diagnosed and wants a cure (as you put it) from random punters on the internet. In a worst case scenario that could result in the persons death. For an example of why you should never take advice off someone on the internet, have a look for the 21 inch guns problem.

That is fine once they have all had a professional diagnosis.

I told you already, because the poster was looking for medical advice which is not allowed on this forum.

You are free to discuss injuries here (e.g. "oh man, I messed up my shoulder in training last week"), but medical advice is not allowed (e.g. "Oh man, my knee is really sore, can anyone tell me how to sort it out?")

That just doesn't make any sense to me. Are you telling me that because I've never had a blood clot that I'm never going to get a blood clot?

I do, and it's a good example of why you (not you specifically, anyone) should not be allowed to give medical advice on the internet, because you might stop someone with a potentially life threatening condition from seeking medical help.

Now, nobody else seems to have any issue with this, so if you want a further discussion on the subject please take it to PM. If you want a public discussion on the matter please take it to feedback. DO NOT START ANOTHER THREAD IN THIS FORUM ON THIS SUBJECT.
