Questions about high protein low carb diet

I've decided to start a low carb high protein diet after reading about insulin spikes caused by carbs. I find that if I eat carbs I'm always hungry about an hour later. Even when I have porridge I'm always absolutely starving about an hour or so later!
I love fruit but that's very high in sugars so I'm wondering if I'll have to cut it out for the moment and gradually reintroduce it?
I'd love some advice on this.
Also I'm looking for new ideas on my low carb diet as it is,
firstly is this diet ok(is there too much or too little of anything?)
is having an apple as a snack a bad idea for insulin spikes?
is there anything elso i can have for breakfast besides scrambled eggs or an omelette?
Breakfast - scrambled eggs- 1 egg and 3-4 whites and 2 oatcakes, 1 tablespoon flaxseed oil
Snack - handful of nuts (walnuts, almonds, cashews) or celery and cottage cheese or an apple
Lunch - salad with grilled chicken fillet/ or tuma (large tin, in brine and drained) and 2 oatcakes
Snack - half a chicken fillet/or turkey fillet
    *GYM*
Dinner - grilled salmon with veg stir fry (broccoli, spinach, celery, mushrooms, pak choi) and 1 oatcake
    Snack - cottage cheese/ nuts/ protein shake

I'm going on holidays in 8 weeks time and want to bring down the body fat % a bit and tone up by then, I have been eating healthy and working out since Jan but haven't seen much results.

are you looking to do low carb or lower carb? low carb would see no fruits and oatcakes abd then you would eventually re introduce some fruits like berries (lower in sugar) and some other carbs like a little root veg, oats etc over transition periods.

if you really wanted to do tho whole hog on it - buy the idiot proof diet in easons and read it over the weekend.

if you really want to do it then educate yourself on it first.

do you do any exercise? what was your previous diet like? is it weigt you want to lose? how much?

You'll probably find you don't need so many snacks. One of the advantages of a low carb diet is less hunger.

By the way, the idea that eating six or more times a day burns more calories has been disproved. You are much better eating to hunger, rather than getting into the habit of eating because it's meal/snack time.

Low carb diets should have more fat in them. Going low carb and low fat is a recipe for disaster. Eat whole eggs, put olive oil on your salad, don't automatically go for the lowest fat cut of meat or chicken.

I'd ditch the flaxseed oil. It's very volitile and goes rancid quickly and should never be used in hot food.

Low carb doesn't mean high protein, it means high fat, so instead of scrambled eggs with 3 whites and a yolk, have the whole egg, that's one of the joys of a lc diet!

Add butter and olive oil to cooked veggies and salad.

Also agree with Eileen, that amount of food is gonna be good for week one but your appetitie is going to go way down after that. It's important to never be hungry though.

I would recommend a book to keep you motivated. A lot of us on here had good success with the 'Idiot Proof Diet' by India Knight, it's very good, I've bought it for two friends and they've all declared it the easiest diet they've ever done.

Low carb, I just don't know how I'd survive without fruit, oatcakes etc, willpower-wise!

Yes I exercise most days, I do weights and cardio (spinning or HIIT) 3-4 days a week, and on days I'm not in the gym I do yoga or pilates.

    Previous diet would have been
Breakfast - porridge with seeds and 1 tsp honey, glass of orange juice OR muesli with soya milk
    Snack - apple and nuts
Lunch - tuna/ chicken salad with a small amount of brown rice
    Snack - nakd bar/ scone/ flapjack/ chocolate :O
Dinner - chicken/turkey/ salmon and stir fry with brown rice
    Snack - strawberry yogurt

I don't need to lose a huge amount of weight. I'm at the right weight for my height now so I just want to tone up really.

I should also add; I have a major sweet tooth, can't resist chocloate! So used drink a butlers hot chocolate or a mocha once or twice a week before aswell. Have given them up now but I'm always craving sweet things!!

I love this stuff. One or two small squares is all it takes to give me my chocolate fix. And best of all, the children don't steal it.

Where do you get this chocolate? I've looked in a good few places with no luck.

And it's high in magnesium. It's a theory that that's the reason women crave chocolate around their totm, PMS is worsened by magnesium deficiency.

Davy - it should be with the regular chocolate in places like Dunnes, Centra, SuperQuinn etc. Lindt do it, Green & Black's do it, and I think there's a Tesco's Finest version too. Good luck finding it!
