I was wondering who is using Imagine WiMax? How do you find it? I have seen a few people posting here about low speeds. But as its "4G" Signal strength counts. But what kind of speeds do people get? How is it with things like Sky boxes and General voice calls? Looking to lower the cost of my BB. I'm with Aptus at the moment. They have gone down hill in recent months with slow peak time speeds. Plus I am paying €15 more for 1meg less and with a 30gig cap. Which I go over in the first week or two of use :(

The service sucks worse than a ten-dollar ladyboy with a chipped tooth and a coldsore.
They sent me out a bogey router which didnt have any wireless connectivity.
THe tech guy admitted there are frequent problems with the thomson routers they use and sent me aout a new one. Which seems to work okay.
The tech-support email i sent was finally answered today, 29th, and was sent on the 19th. They charge 20c per minute (€12 per hour) to speak to someone in tech support, or just wait and listen to the nice music whilst tech support deal with other customers. I got annoyed about this because the problem was of their making, not mine.
they also want me to post back the old router, as if I'm going to pay for that!
    Deaf ears.
The connectivity is rubbish, pages dont load properly and connections time out every few minutes. It reminds me of dial up.
I'm pulling out faster than a hot snot, off to the bank in the morning to cancel the direct debit.
My advice is to run away, fast.

Could this be a location issue in your house area? I am in the sticks with
hills on one side and mountains on the other. I Generally get good signals on my mobile. But it does depend on the provider. Is there a coverage map anywhere?

Most of it not too promising.

I am, and it's one of the worst internet services I have ever used. I usually get under 1 megabit, and I have full reception. When you call to request that the service be improved, regardless of what speed you'rte getting, they say "it's within our contention rate". This is a load of ****e they say to get you off the phone.

When the service first came online my former flat mate ordered it and we were impressed with the speed. Youtube videos loaded fast, the connection was robust. he moved out, I ordered service of my own and it's been really ****. I have the same exact plan as he did, the WiMax home hub is located in the same spot and I have full reception.

The problem is they are over selling the service "expanding" and it's making the quality of service for existing users crap.

I have rarely gotten above 1 megabit and the upload has consistently been under 128 kbps.

Like I said in what to be fair is a fairly disparaging thread, I'm incredibly happy with my service. I get consistent solid speeds above what I'm actually paying for. I do have an external antenna, and I believe that this makes all the difference. Those who are complaining about the service generally have just an indoor hub, which of course is subject to interference and other conditions.

Spend the little bit extra, get an external antenna and get a decent connection. My interaction with their customer service, both sales and tech has been fantastic, I've had them stick with me, ring me back and update me on situations when I was wondering whether to switch or not, the installation team were very helpful in getting things how I wanted (cables through my attic rather than over my roof), and in getting me setup quick enough to avoid have to spend more on another month with Vodafone, saving me €50. Tech support has been enthusiastic, and have helped me get the best speed out of my connection for things like torrents.

I've been with quite a few ISPs (Eircom, Perlico, Vodafone, o2 and more) and I'm happiest so far with Imagine. I've been with them since Mid-September. Have a read of my rant which explains my stance a bit further, and read on in that forum.

It would only be a good system if it 100% used outdoor reasonable gain fixed aerials. As is doesn't, inherently it can't be. Not even for people with outdoor aerials.

As a current Wiimax customer, I find it really good. Maybe its something to do with location :confused: but i find it good value and good quality, just my experience :)
