A 16-year-old boy has been charged with killing his brother in a fight over a PlayStation, Chilean Police said.

Police said the younger boy was angered when his 18-year-old brother turned on the game console without his permission. He then grabbed a knife and stabbed him. Police said the youth told them that "things got out of control".

The boy could face five years in prison.

Homicide investigator Gilberto Opazo said the brothers had been abandoned by their mother and spent 10 years as wards of the state before a Belgian woman named Valerie Michael took them in. She was visiting Belgium when the killing happened.

I'm going to go ahead and make an outrageous, unrealistic, evil statement.

Kid had issues, playstation made it worse. Banning playstations won't do jack **** to stop this from happening in the future. I can see his parents as those ones who would let the kid play GTA when they were 9.

I hate when people blame video games for things that happen in life. If the fight had been over food, would you say it was the food's fault?

I remember many years ago (aprox 10) where a 10-13 year old boy killed his 2 year old brother for turning of the play station. he body slammed him (like wrestlers do) until he got tired, his brother was dead after the 5th time, he did it at least 10 times.

It was either in the uk or usa.

That's not a real ****ing console fight

The stabbing would have been justified if the attacked said the PlayStation was better than Xbox!

My Irish step-brother one day when playing with his littler brother at FIFA had kicked in each and every one of the drawers on his dresser. All he had left was some broken wood panels and a bunch of shelves on wheels. There was also a lot of cursing and a lot of giggling from getting his ass kicked by a 10yr old. How he managed to take it out on the drawer and not the child I dont know... but he's in the army now. So be mindful :)

He was trying to act cool and to do so he pretended to be 'I only use my blade'.
He then took out his knife and used Ninja, not Commando. He proceeded to stab him until he said "SIT DOWN!"

Queue gamers saying the kid is a lunatic and obviously had underlying mental health issues. As they normally do when hopelessly blindly defending their love for gaming. People don't want to be assosiated with negativity like that...

Most gamers have underlying mental health issues. Doesn't make them killers though.

    Orly???

It was only a matter of time. Same thing happens in the gaming forum every so often, blinkered minds trying to think logically when being extremely biased towards what they love doesn't work. It's a wonder why more murderers don't get off because they are lunatics, why are they not in asylums? It's because they are not actually lunatics, but normal beings, yet it seems to be difficult for some to comprehend that killing somebody, doesn't necessarily make you a lunatic. We have only being killing one another since the begining of our existance.

Which means gamers are right to defend their hobby, considering all the abuse it gets in the press when things like this happen. It's not games that are bad, it's people.

Which means gamers are right to defend their hobby, considering all the abuse it gets in the press when things like this happen. It's not games that are bad, it's people.

There is not enough time in the world to discuss this topic in detail. Nor would most understand it.

Influences, can be good or bad, to deny the very fact that computer games, books, films are influences is extremely naive, stupid and ignorant. Yet many still ignore logic, ignore fact and what written in paper before them.

Search high and low on the internet and you will not find any proper, unbiased, independant research results to support either side of the raging debate that will ensue for some time, the debate being "violence and video games".

All I can say to you is that your personality is influenced by all around you, wether you know it or not, wether you like it or not, it's happening. Everyone is different, and saying "I play games and I don't kill people" is a pathetic attempt at an arguement.

Like most ignorant people, good advice will be ignored because said people have an outright love for their hobby and will refuse to let their hobby get bashed, even when the arguement is logical and simplified. They simply cannot get it into their skulls that these things are bad. They refuse to accept it. Ignorance at it's best.

Read a little about psychology and influences before you enter this debate ;)
