He's just dropped an almighty clanger. Got into his car after a walkabout and forgot his microphone was still on.

Hre went on to describe his walkabout as a disaster and call an old lady a bigot :D

He'll come out smelling of roses anyway as he described a right wing women as "Bigoted".

"You can't say anything about these immigrants - all these Eastern Europeans were flocking in."

    Sounds pretty bigotted to me.

She was a Labour voter all her life. She already had her postal vote filled out to vote Labour. She said on Sky News afterwards that she wouldnt be sending it now.

I was just going by his interview that he gave.

He made her sound like a member of the BNP.

He just made a bad situation worse so.

This is the part that annoys me...

"That was a disaster - they should never have put me with that woman. Whose idea was that? It's just ridiculous..."

Would he only like to be put with people he agrees with or can win outright in a debate? What the fcuk does he expect? That kind of shít from politicians is rubbish. PR stunts is all they want... cocks...

I agree, I don't think what he said had much to do with her views.

But the spin doctors will make it look like it was.

"Where are all these Eastern Europeans comin from?" was her question

Brown's reply (I hope) was: "Madam, you've just answered your own question, you dumb bigot"

People would've applauded him if he did that. If you're going to insult someone, do it to their face instead of behind their backs.

And some of the plebs would be stupid enough to hand over the bargain €500 fee to watch it.:P

It's really worth watching the longer video. The womans an annoying ****er but watching brown try and put a postive spin on everything is great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

She was a bit of a bigot really. Scarily, she didnt understand for a second what she said that could have been construed as bigoted.

His response has been funnier too. He apologised and said he was frustrated that he couldnt answer her annoying question about immigrants. But if you watch the conversation, he clearly changed the subject!

Yeah I agree. Also he came across very sleazy to me. Are your kids going to go to university ?? Isn't British edcuation great ?? essentially. i was half expected him to smile and his teeth sparkle......except he can't pull that off.

hahaah. Would have been funny if he just said......'Presumably Eastern Europe'.

I actually didn't hear her saying that. It is kinda biggoted but the way he reacted you'd think she was ranting and raving about foreigners ni a big tirade or something.

Edit: Saw the full video now. She did seem biggotted how she said that about eastern europeans. And actually i think he dealth with it extremetly well (in contrast to the rest of her quesitons).

Hilarious. Fair play to him though. He shouldnt of apolgised. He possibly could of won a few more votes if he spoke out against bigotry and racism etc

The next series of The Thick of It is just writing itself. And it looks like they've finally found the perfect replacement for Chris Langham too.

I'd have a lot more respect for Brown if he hadn't apologised.

"She is a bigot... next stupid question, please"

    but....

she asks where the eastern Europeans are flocking from.

    Education FAIL

If nothing else it just shows how vulnerable these guys are to a slip of the tongue and the speed at which these things escalate.

Within a few hours of the remarks being made, which seem to be ostensibly true and fair, they have been plastered all over the internet, he has had to do a live radio apology and witness the ladies reaction to his comments, insane evolution from remarks being made to full blown media circus.

Also, Boris Johnson is possibly the only interesting politician in Britain. Whether it's a carefully arranged construct or his normal persona; well done that man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭sponsoredwalk

The commentators on the radio interview were saying "this is a very damaging moment". I don't see how it could be?

I actually have an inkling of respect for the man now, the woman was making the same old bigoted claim about for'nurs, silently implying how bad they are. It's an unfortunately little known fact that every country both exports and imports people and for a lot of countries they depend on immigrants doing low wage-paying jobs, with little thanks.

Also, the mayor of London is ridiculous lol, imagine having a comedian be in charge. I seen him on a tv show a while ago and he just had everyone in stitches. Read his wiki, he seems like a good guy.

this won't affect Brown in the slightest...i just think he is really lucky that there was nothing worse said.

after rawnsley's book everybody knows how much of a nut he is...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,163 ✭✭✭✭Liam Byrne

I think that clip from Sky News shows them to be the irresponsible tabloid tripe that they are.

Showing the comments without showing what she said is hack, soundbite journalism.

If they showed the whole thing, then fair enough.

I do agree that he should have answered to her face, or asked her questions back in order to show up her prejudices, and I'd have more respect for him if he had, but I don't see a problem with what he actually said.

Fair play to Brown is what I say, any rare nugget of honesty or candour that politicians display should be celebrated rather than condemned.
