Hey, sorry to open another thread but just went through a bunch of older ones and couldnt find what I was looking for.

Im looking for advice as to what weight and repitition to squat at.

I wouldnt say Im afraid of embaressing myself, but Im worried if I start off wrong, ill never learn the best way, and before anyone says it, I know it all depends.

Im 27, 88.5KG, 6ft and have been doing bench press, situp, free weight excersises for 4 or 5 months now.
(im converting from lbs) and their all with free weights
I normally do in 3 cycles..
    10*34kg bench presses
    10*30kg french press
    10*65kg lateral pulls
    10*55kg underhanded lateral pulls
    25 pushups
    20 situps

Im getting a bit bored of it and want to incorporate squats. Can anyone tell me what they started squating at and how many squats at once?

Make sure you get the technique right and start off with small weights because if you do it with weights that are too heavy you could get prolapse, nasty:(

it sounds like you're trying to gauge what your max squat should be. It's a terrible idea to start off with a max lift if you've never done the exercise before. If starting from scratch, just use the bar at first. For each subsequent workout, add 10kg until that gets tough, then drop the increments until you reach a challenging weight. A lot of people go with 5 reps for squats, but if you're aiming for size rather than strength then higher reps may suit you

it's important to practice correct squat form before you start adding loads of weight because there's much more potential for injury by doing it with bad form

I started with an empty 5kg bar and slowly added weight, think my first squat was about 30kg and I added 2.5kg each workout session. Didn't take long for it to get hard. Also once again I have to recommend getting your hands on the "starting strength" book. Very detailed instructions on how to do some of the Olympic lifts and it will set you on the right path.

make sure you're going deep enough. thighs to parallel with the floor or lower. stick a couple small plates under your heels at first to help you if you can't manage it straight off.
