OK, since this is of real interest to me right now I said I would ask here. For both suggestions and experience, or just to let you day dream.

Where would you move to in the world for a year or more on your own if you had No responsibilities, Your youth (21), No direction in life.

You have €6000 to pay for flights and such and to get yourself set up.

    So, where would you go?

This is actually something I want to do soon, and it seems I may be coming into the means to do so.

south east asia or south america, you can live like a king for tuppence in both, great friendly people too and unlike australia/canada/usa etc, a completely different culture, a genuine travelling experience, not for wimps, cowards or bores....for smug pretentious types who like an adventure and don't mind roughing it 6,000 will get you a long way (maybe up to 6 months)

Ah good ol' Without Doubt, Canada.

It's about 100 miles outside Toronto isn't it? Lovely little town.

    Somewhere in Scandinavia I think.

Or Canada again, far west or far east coast though, British Columbia or either P.E.I./Newfoundland/Nova Scotia (I'm from Ontario). They're stunning and it really is a lovely country.

If money / work wasnt the major concern Id go somewhere with proper seasons or somewhere just with sun for 10 months of the year.
A house near the beach near a coastal Austrailian town, near one of the big cities but not right in the middle of it.
    Or somewhere in the mediterranean.

I would choose Paris, France everytime. I've been there twice on holiday and I'm in love with this city. In this city, I wouldn't care how little I had. I would marvel at the architecture around me and there is great diversity on the streets. I feel Paris is the one place I could go with absolutely nothing and still be happy. Ideally, I would live and work there for some period in the future. I believe there are many interesting people to meet there as it gets 26 million tourists a year. I would walk along the Seine and have coffee in view of the Eiffel Tower. I could not imagine anything more perfect. On a side note, I would love to go to Sweden just because I belive swedish girls are the most attractive.

Depends on whether or not you intend to work.

6000 euro wouldn't last too long in Australia if you're not working.

However, you could make it last 6 or 7 months in Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia without working.

In the first 2 places, you could get work for a bar where they'd look after your meals and accommodation and some booze. That way, you could make your 6k last a full year.

But do you really wanna be pissed for a whole year? (cue some people who say they'd love to, but they're the ones who obviously haven't done backpacking; pissed every night gets exhausting, and I love my drink).

Can we spend 6 months in two different countrys ? :D

So many choices and first thoughts drift to a nice warm sunny climate ,someplace like Italy or Portugal but Paris also has an attraction for me .I was once there on a trip to Disneyland and got to walk down the champs the lycee for a bit and would be nice to sample the Parisian way of life for a bit .

Middle Earth, all the way baby. 6K could get me a nice sword and bow I would guess. Hunt me some orcs, live off the land, just like the Edain... I dislike fantasy for showing me what I can never have.

Lotsa Canadia fans on here then?!

With 6 grand I would avoid western type countries like the plague... Why not be a little more adventurous and head for, as others have said, South America or SE Asia... Savage spots, a real refreshing break from life over here! 6 grand will get you pretty far too... I've done South Amer and i'd go back in a shot... DO IT!! :)

I've been thinking of doing something similiar though always kind of playing on my mind is "what would I do after doing that?" and I always put it off.

I guess I'd like to go to Canada. I've heard only good things about the whole place and Vancouver in particular.

Let us know how you get on if this becomes a reality soon.:)
