It was suggested to me that a thread on this topic might be useful for people looking to discuss costumes and load-outs for games set after The Bomb (or The Zombies, or The Virus, or The Global Warming). Suggestions and analysis of resources, pointers and critique, examples, where to buy, and anything else related. Keep pictures to a reasonable size, be excellent to each other, and no - NO - dressing as Lord Humongous, please.

I have a old russian GP-5 gas mask. I suppose i could put together a post-apocalyptic'ish type loadout. I couldn't see it being practical though :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Was just thinking about a post-apocalyptic loadout this morning, had considering putting together a vault 101 loadout with a faded blue/denim jumpsuit and some bits for the game in HRTA next week, but it's too short notice to get anything decent.

I'll probably put together a generic post-apocalypse loadout with primarily black gear, shot gun and a gas mask maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

Need a log in to see some of the pictures

you can make some really good load outs from simple items, surplus stores will have gas mask bags, use this instead of a vest for example, little things

I'd be looking at the following for inspiration:
    Madmax,
    The Postman,
    Waterworld,
    Exterminators in the year 3000,
    12 monkeys.

I reckon denims, bikers, dirty camos would be a be a safe bet, with T-shirts, sweats, jackets ( leather, denim, bomber, body warmer ) to top you off.

A satchel for personal belongings, spare ammo stuffed into pockets.
Imagine you had only 3 minutes to leave your home, grab & go.
Clothing, boots, gun & spare ammo. Anything else would be salvaged later. :)

I wonder if any sites would be willing to do a "Post-apocalyptic" themed day.

On a related note does anyone know where i can get a 40mm NATO gas mask filter in Ireland? :)

Grubby down jacket, handgun with only 4 bbs, shopping trolley (in which you might be allowed to carry spare ammo) and a beard (mandatory for ladies as well).

    I love you guys !*

I've been working on a loadout for a not so much post apocalipse game but it's more post collapse of society/the enviroment so all ideas are appreciated.

So far my own loadout for it is based arround a soldier turned merc:
    Torn faded combats,
Molle Vest with mismatched pouches in different camo patterns.
    black t-shirt.
    Army of two mask (repainted)
    JG Thunder maul (don't laugh!)
    Hi Capa Dragon.

I'll see if i can get a pic of it all at some point.

And I hope i don't get lynched for posting this but if anyone interested heres the site for the game (it's LARP more than Skirmish)

I've managed to pick up both of the versions from people on here actually. I also picked up another similarly constructed mask on eBay
    http://www.hiddenassassins.com/index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=category&id=42

If anyone thinks of getting this one though be aware, i've had to reseal the fibreglass and rebuild the padding inside as both were done fairly badly.

A Russian fallout game with amazing costumes.

Thanks man, Next step is to drill out the circles at the front and mount some EL tape behind them to make em glow (i'ts the future everything needs to glow!). I just need to find somewhere i can get a small quantity of EL tape without breaking the bank. Then theres the fun task of fitting a better battery in it. has to have the smallest battery compartment i've ever seen !

I'm also really happy with how the masks turned out especially the battle damaged cammo one.

If anyone has any ideas for stuff that can be used/abused for a loadout of this type I'm all ears

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Dread-Lock

If your looking for EL tape here in Ireland you'll get it in either Peat's or Maplin's. If your looking online try eBay or just type "EL tape" into Google and choose one of the 12 million online shops that sell it ;).

You could also try a LiPo battery they'll be smaller then the ol' NiMH batteries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭Drachnien

the 7.2 lipo i have won't fit (i've enlarged the compartment as much as possible already) si i'm looking into getting smaller sized ones. this thing has the smallest battery compartment i've come across, fitting deans connectors to it gave me issues with getting the standard 8.4v nimh to fit.

I couldn't find el tape on maplins or petes websites but i'll try going into them and asking in person (might have more luck).

Anyway, i'll stop derailing the thread now !
i'll repeat, any ideas are appreciated, theres a group of about 4 of us going to be going to these events regularly so any loadout ideas are appreciated. anyone got any ideas for alternatives to actual tac vests for carrying mags etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭johnciall

A photographerts vest, Patched to hell & back could be an interesting alternative to a tac vest

Gas mask bag, satchel bag, fishing/hunting vest.

Found this place. Some very interesting pieces, especially the armour & face masks.
http://www.dein-larp-shop.de/ Some nice kit, not bad on price either.

I'd so miss the organisation and ease of the tac vest style, thinking modding a tac vest (well trashing one) is the way to go.

And i know those LRP guys, got some stuff from them before, good quality and prices alright

No need to trash 1, just roll around in the dirt with it on. It can be easily washed afterwards or perhaps use a webb belt & some pouches.

Old RAF Overcoat and Russian Commissar hat, just a generic woodland harness under neat.

If i could get Decent mids for my G3A3 it'd be out in force, but alas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

Less fancy, and not requiring a gas mask (just a watch cap and an MP7) is the Half Life look:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1UPMEmCqZo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭Stonewolf

I'm looking at hooking MOLLE pouches onto my belt.

You could get one of those one strap bags or a satchel over your shoulder or something and put your mags in that. Ok, so it's no tac vest but it'll do the job and you'll look the part.

Also for those of us with comms (Shane likes radios so they're allowed) I intend to leave my Bowman at home use my radio walkie-talkie style which I think is more appropriate.

I'm not sure if I'll use my old leather coat (the duct tape is structural!), might be a bit hot for it.

Trust me on one thing - leather+running arround = horrible sweaty ickyness unless it's actually cold out - even slightly worm and the heat builds up. I'm sure TadCan can back me up on this one.

I can definatly back you up,
Leather trench coat & running around =/= big or clever, Dehydration is not fun

This message brought to you buy the guy who has done a full weekends larp in a trenchcoat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭Stonewolf

I've done full weekends of larp in chainmail with padding underneath and a wool surcoat over that. I'm mostly considering whether the awesome of the coat is worth being too hot. I reckon Monday (which for those of you reading this three years from now is when Salvage is on) will be cooler than the last two days I've been out at HRTA (the first of which I drank about 3 litres in a half day it was so hot) but it'll probably still be a bit on the warm side for a big coat, that said milsim isn't as action intense as skirmish. I reckon it's worth taking on the day and seeing how it goes.

Hydration is really important for either pursuit, I generally don't go airsofting without about 2 litres.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭Drachnien

So long as your prepared for the heat! I gotta ask, what larp you did (curiosity) we've got a full weekend of leather wearing larp starting tomorrow.

And to stay on topic, what's the opinions on cammo for this kind of loadout, Personally, the one i'm working on getting together is gonna be a mismatch of patterns colors and non cammo clothes (not 100% decised on specifics but i know i want it mismatched) so it's going to be useless as actual cammo really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Hit up ebay for bargain priced leather jackets. If you arent spending more than 5-10 quid you wont mind hacking an arm off one side and stitching mag pockets to the front of it. Cant get much more "road warrior" than that.

Biker jackets, trenchcoats and every so often a decent great coat or duster are always or sale and are al perfect for the Post-Apocalypse. If you want to go all "Fall out" about it you could always get a blue jumpsuit and paint "13" on the back, or grab a varsity jacket for the Art Deco feel.

I really like the "design your own battle dress" theme, apolcalyptic-punk ftw.
