Do my alloys suit my car?

    Before:

    After:

I think lots of people don't like them but in my defense I needed new tyres when I found the alloys for sale and paid less for the alloys and brand new p-zeros than new tyres for the original alloys would have cost!

Car looks a bit smart, Alloys look a bit mean. I dunno just a silly opinion of mine though.

It'd be like wearing a suit, but also having an eyebrow piercing?

they are disgusting. lovely car, ruined by the alloys.

What a car, but, those wheels really look truly awful!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

your car, keep em if ya like em.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭Stoolbend

Nice car! But the before picture is way nicer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,450 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

    +1.
if Maserati wanted to put chrome onto the car, they would have done it at the factory.
    Origionals look 100% better.

just my opinion though. If you like them, leave them on

    Very tacky looking.

    hideous.

how can you afford a class car like that and not afford tyres ?!

I wasn't a fan of the "before" alloys at all...

but after seeing the second set of alloys theyre infinately better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,570 ✭✭✭rebel.ranter

I would vote for the "before" too, sorry! Nice car though.

    Jesus no.

Do you still have the old ones? I could put on my Quattroporte (IV gen) if they are also 5x108. How much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭Hal1

The 1st set suit her better. Altough if the new alloys or chromes:confused: where sprayed in anthracite grey they might look better. They are too shinny. :o

I think the after picture looks the best!

makes your car look professional but a bit wild at heart....like a maserati no?

Sorry I wouldn't sell them, if I ever sell the car I bet the new owner would prefer the originals...

A Maserati does not need to be blinged up. Those wheels are a slur against the pedigree of that car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 21inchguns

I sort of agree with the opinions based on the pictures, my camera is a bit ****. I think they look good in the flesh, either way they are staying on, I am not bothered by what anybody thinks I was just wondering. Here is a better pic of the alloys on a Murcielago (20" same as mine).

if it's any consolation, thats even worse than what you've done to your car...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,259 ✭✭✭Blut2

Lovely car, the new alloys are very tackey though. They look like something you'd find on a tarted up Honda Civic. Might be slightly less offensive if they were sprayed grey and not such bright chrome though like someone else suggested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

I don't think it really matters how good or bad your camera was with the state of those alloys. Nothing could make them look good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,219 ✭✭✭✭biko

    Looks ghetto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭jaffa20

    I like them:o

They look very alfa romeoesque :D

how does it feel on road with those after market alloys compared to the original ones,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Awful rims - shame to put them on such a lovely car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭T83

They're very American Racing late 90's style, kind of like you'd have seen on Mustangs and Camaros back then... Its the star shape around the bolt pattern thats putting American Racing in my head.

Honest reply, not my cup of tea at all, but then what is my cup of tea wont be somebody elses and so on, if you like them then keep them on it... a set of alloys hardly takes it into Barry Boys territory. Some people obviously do like them though, they wouldnt be available or manufactured otherwise.

You're also going to get some replies saying oh theyre probably very heavy and will effect the performance/fuel consumption. Theyre not really going to put a huge dent in the real world performance of a Maser now are they? And I sincerely doubt fuel consumption is a concern if your driving one of those to begin with.

i dunno they look cool :P seems most ppl disagree :) but after all its up to you :) if you think they suit it and make ya happy keep em on :P

Not awful, but you can't beat the originals.

Not awful, but you can't beat the originals.

Maybe I was being a bit harsh! They just don't suit the car at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

The standard wheels look better, but it's your car, if you like the chrome wheels then why not have them on your car? The good thing about aftermarket wheels is that you can always take them off.

I've seen your car around a couple of times and the wheels definitely look better in person, especially when on the move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,544 ✭✭✭Hogzy

Oh dear lord they look awful! Sorry but its true

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭bigbadbear

    You should make a poll!

I am 50/50 and if people are saying the new ones look better in real life then they're probably the best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭.Longshanks.

If changing the wells, stick to originals. What about these?

Sorry going to have to go with the others and say no.
Thet look too cheap for a car of that class;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,705 ✭✭✭Mr.David

    Lovely car.

The wheels though shout two words - "New Money"

    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,857 ✭✭✭langdang

The new ones don't suit really, maybe on another car but they're a bit drug dealer tacky on the maserati.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,822 ✭✭✭✭EPM

    Your choice obviously.

But thy are quite possible the worst wheels I have ever seen on one. They ruin the look of the whole car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭positron

The new alloys looks slightly better than the old one, imho.

Something like this, or one with even more spokes would be more "classy" :D

would have been a good opportunity for a poll, so we could really quantify the level of bad taste on this board

I find the after pic upsetting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,043 ✭✭✭2 Espressi

Not a fan of the the aftermartket wheels at all, it looks like you were too cheap to buy proper tyres, so slapped a set of cheapie wheels and tyres on instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Darsad

You photoshopped the pic right ?
Because thats the only way I could see anybody fitting those things on a car like that ! Hideous !!!
If you did physically fit them then you have gone from understated elegance and class to the bling bling of Dell Boy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,219 ✭✭✭✭biko

Other examples in my opinion on how to take a nice car and make it less nice by putting wrong alloys on.

Chrome alloys look really cheap I think. But hey if you like them then its a winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭CONM

They look awful and if one of the main reasons you bought them was that they were cheaper than buying new tyres for the maserati wheels, are you aware of what the service costs of a car like that are.

The performance isn't noticeably different and the fuel consumption is still only about 12mpg. I do drive it like a stole it and don't really do long motorway journeys.
