Why do you hate it, it is noticable on this forum that a lot of people hate commando, personally i never had a problem with it, i have never come across someone to stab me from a distance away either.
So is it a question of lag that makes it worse , or is it worse on the ps3 ?

Imo on the 360 i have no problem putting down people with marathon/lightweight and commando.

When someone does, and you're after emptying a full clip into him before he stabs you, tell us how you feel then...:D

CBA rehashing everything I said before in regards to how Commando is a bunch of BS so I'll just post a few vids to demonstrate how retarded the perk is...

    I love this guy...

It has nothing to do with Lag, it's jsut ****ing annoying

I dont mind it either. I use headphones and can usually locate someone by their footsteps so i know how to attack them without leaving myself an open target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,399 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

As a PS3 player I do find it annoying. Funnily enough I find the animation of the Commando Pro attack more annoying than anything else. It just seems to be 'wrong', probably because the real-life physics of someone jumping across a room at you and sinking a knife into your chest from that distance is wrong. :)

However, I certainly don't hate a player who uses it, I just remember to be more careful in close-quarter battle scenarios (crouch quickly, lie prone, etc.).

i unashamedly use it as a perk.
I am not that good. It helps me.;)
If you are going to allow long shots with a sniper rifle without even properly scoping then why not? ( i'm lookin' at you TALLON:D)
Both occurances are fabricated why is one any worse than the other?

And no dammit i can not quickscope or noscope. I have not been able to.

I do play straight, no cheating. Cheating is pathetic in all it's forms, i enjoy many persuits exceling in none but if i cheated to achieve i would feel like a lowlife.

That guy in the above rant vid is hilarious!

Yeah thats what i thought when i heard the bestly video.

As for commando pro,as tallon put it..its just fukking annoying!!

Ye I know its a video game, but commando pro seems to be the least realistic perk.

As was mentioned before "physics" needs to come into play here in some shape or form. If there was something in the game like superjump, whereby you could leap into the air at twice the height of a normal jump, even more people would be hopping about the game (excuse the pun). Same sort of principal applies here.

But if anything has to be removed from the game its T.Is, put an end to this boosting bullshít

Commando should do what the tactical knife attachment does for handguns - speed up melee, not give the extra range.

Commando can be very annoying , but I think I find "last stand" perk even more of a pain in the arse

I've killed you but youre so useless you need a second chance everytime you die . Basing your gameplay around a death perk

    This.

Incredibly frustrating to see what amounts to Dhalsim-like arm stretching across the screen to kill you despite opening fire and sticking a few rounds in their chest.

    I don't think so TBH...

All they need is one more shot or a hit with any sort of grenade and they're gone.

It's a great perk for use when capping points in domination/HQ as you still take the points while in last stand

Also, final stand is the death perk, last stand isn't.

Like i said i played a lot of time on this game and it hasnt happened , you point must be lag related.

I used the perk for 3 games last night , went negative in all 3, and i wasnt able to stab someone from a distance, i must be doing something wrong.

I knew someone would say this ..........I was referring to it as a death perk as in ...... unlike ninja ,steady aim, commando or scrambler you actually have to die to get to use it . Youre basing your whole gamplay on the fact that youre going to die ............lots :D rather than thinking to yourself youre going to die **** all

Some people would say its noobs perk like jugger/martydom ;)

Im the same :D useless when ever I try it . Never know how far you can actually knife from . Nothing but knife fails then as soon as I respawn he does the knife movement

I wasn't trying to be argumentative if that's what you mean. I just thought you were confusing the two.

Don't tell me what I'm "basing my gameplay on" - I use Ninja Pro 90% of the time

Having said that, if I'm playing Dom or HQ I'll stick last stand on now and again to aid in capping flags. I'm not trying to die or expecting to, BUT if someone deals enough damage while capping a flag, I might be able to aide my team by lasting a couple of important extra seconds.

It's just like TI's, they annoy a lot of people but there are circumstances where they can be used to a team's advantage, not just the individuals.

Well if you quote my post and write a response, it's hard to tell the difference

Anyways, was just trying to argue my view that Commando is way out of sync with the rest of those perks, annoying as they may be :pac:

It's just silly and frustrating that it allows someone to pretty much teleport and makes them invincible during it.

In a match of TDM in Invasion i saw someone on the otherside of those walls you can hop over. Just as i'm about to try and shoot him he magically lunges towards me even though the bloody wall is inbetween us and still gets me! I wasn't standing right against it either.

Taking no fall damage in the pro version is a good idea but the main perk itself could do with a change, maybe just the ability to stab someone faster?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,009 ✭✭✭Shammy

So it seems the problem is worse on the ps3 with being able to teleport across a room .

Yeah definitely looks like its worse on the PS3.
I think its worse when two players are running towards each other, I find I always lose those battles, I think its because I either
    A) come up against someone with a better connection or indeed the host himself
    or
    B) I just don't press lunge quick enough (far away enough).

It doesn't bother me though. A shotgun to the face usually does the trick !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I used to use it alot before until I kept getting stabbed by it, having tasted my own medicine I decided to tone it down, I still use it as a witching class, as in UMP, M9 Tactical Knife, Marathon/Lightweight/Commando Pro.

Now before I get slaughtered for using this class, im ny defence I dont use the Tactical Knife as much, its a total BS attahcemnt with Commando, I only really use this class in game modes like Sabotage or Demolition when you have to be somewhere fast, I dont fall back on the commando perk and only have it as its handy to take no falling damage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,692 ✭✭✭shawpower

    Couple of things.

You mention the three games you used it on. Was that when we were playing tactical matches? I know you said you went negative, but there were about 3-4 times when you got me with your commando lunge. I've not come across the commando much before, but was really bummed with it in that game. It was probably because we were playing 4v4 that I ran up against you way more frequently that I'd normally get killed by the one person. Anyway, I was unloading ammo into you and then you'd appear in front of me and I'd be dead. You don't realise when you are playing how much of a lunge you get, but trust me it is noticeable from my end.

But maybe you're right about it not being as common on the 360 than on the PS3?

I do go knifing occasionally, but usually just use the First Recon class which gives me Ninja rather than Commando (benefit of this is that every knife kill with the magum tac knife counts as a gun challenge kill which isn't the case with every other weapon). It is possible to rack up decent scores, but it is really map dependant. I mean Terminal and Wasteland don't suit because you have long sight lines. Favela and Scrapyard aren't bad. Bizarrely, despite it's huge size, I find Derail the best, because you have so much cover, and then you've got loads of guys trying to snipe out windows. The Warehouse in particular is a good spot. I've scored over 30 kills in games on that map (with killstreaks also), and I'd say 90% of the time go positive. I actually came close(ish) to a knife nuke there also, with 19 kills I think.

    .

Thats where lag comes into to play , we had a dodgy host (sorry mark) and your other 3 team mates complained of bad lag, in saying that i still went negitive , cadman always took a step back when he saw me running and i went down easy enough.

Thats me there, not too good with internet connection speeds and their relevance to gaming, but care to gimme the low-down on that? Why I'm often picked as the host and why I'm often kicked when I am!? Ping is high is about all I know...

Mines even higher, tested it there and its at 213ms! bloody eircom,10mb broadband my hole, although its in a busy area so thats why, I usually get 4 bar connection in the late hours of the night

Yeah mate your upload and pings are killing the game there.

If the upload is slow your commands and if your the host anyone elses commands will appear slow.

Ping times will have the same effect. Ever notice sometimes you see someone jutter across the screen in a kill cam? Thats erratic ping times in action. Get on to UPC for a line test. Also run a CMD -t ping test t a near enough domain and see whats what.
Also make sure your not downloading or anyone else in the house is downloading when your testing too.

See if your pings or speed are erratic they may be good at time of host selection then drop or become intermittent.

Ideal set up would be xbox direct to modem and nothing else connected to this.
Meaning nor routers no comps, no downloading no iphones no nothing.

Those stats arent great though so I would call up UPC and get a line check done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭raze

I tend to play hardcore TDM/SnD, 1 bullet kill from an UMP means I don't see a lot of commandos, but there's definitely a few times guys have bent space-time with their knives.

I'd like to see the perk tweaked - if it wasn't increased melee distance, instead pressing the button put you in a stab stance (like priming a frag grenade), then it automatically released when someone was in range. I'd be happier, it's still a perk because using it you could just balls to the wall charge someone knowing you have a chance of stabbing.

I find last stand a bit annoying, but only because at range I don't like to finish people off. Screw anyone who wants to have a perk that gets them a kill when they're dying on their arse. Die alone and bored instead. Far too often I don't quite make it to cover before I've been pistol-spammed - or misjudge it and catch Final Stand spam instead. D'oh. Worst of all, I came across one guy who I left in last stand three times and each time he planted a claymore and topped himself whenever I left him. Nothing wrong with the perk though, thought it was a good idea when I saw it in CoD4 first.

yeah but he's not having problems connecting the xbox to the router its his high ping and low upload thats the problems .

and id say your being picked because its registering as a 10 meg download connection and COD is basing its connection soley on that (guess work here correct me if im wrong)
