Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

have you ever built a fort?
Unfortunately not, I'm not manly enough, nor did I ever have enough cushions
    Fad wrote: »
    Heaviest band you listen to?
Not sure, I listen to a lot of Metal, but it's usually more folky/symphonic stuff, any examples I can think of I can immediately think of other heavier bands I like so I'll stop trying

    Plans for the summer?
    None at all
When did you get your first computer/ love of computing develop?
Had an old Packard Bell when I was tiny, back when there was dialup and we couldn't use internet much due to cost.
Got non-**** computer years later, got into nerdy stuff maybe 2nd or 3rd year.
How much change do you have on you right now?
On me, none, however my desk here is full of coppers, I occassionally just empty my wallet out looking for bus fare.

May I ask you a question? (If yes, proceed to next question. If no, explain.)

    Tea or coffee?

    What's your favourite prime number?

    Favourite complex number?

Who would win in a fight: Newton, Einstein or Davidius?

    This or that?

Where would you live if you could choose anywhere at all in the world?

Do you see shapes in cloud formations?

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter books?

Have you ever been told you look like a famous person? If so, who?

Have you ever tried to straighten your beard?

    No

    Tea or coffee?
    Tea, hate coffee

    What's your favourite prime number?
No idea, I'll go with 3, although I remember my CAO number was a prime, that was pretty cool, can't remember what it was though, just that it started with a 4

    Favourite complex number?
    3 + 5i

Who would win in a fight: Newton, Einstein or Davidius?
Davidius, I imagine he's less dusty and rotted, in better shape overall

    This or that?
    That

Where would you live if you could choose anywhere at all in the world?
No idea, if language wasn't an issue one of the Scandinavian countries, but it is, so would have to be English speaking.
I'll eliminate Ireland because I already live here, the UK because it's like Ireland but with worse accents, and America for obvious reasons.
That really just leaves Canada and Australia/New Zealand that I can think of, and Canada seems better.

Do you see shapes in cloud formations?
    I see shapes.
I do not see recognisable shapes

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter books?
I think they were pretty cool, will probably never read them again though

Have you ever been told you look like a famous person? If so, who?
When I was younger Harry Potter.
Now Jonathan Coulton (by jumpguy IIRC), and Jesus

Have you ever tried to straighten your beard?
I have not, it's not long enough

I would, I'd like to eventually (as in, if I ever get a permanent place to live and a decent income) have maybe a nice custom-built server machine, lots of memory at least, and a laptop, store everything on the server but have it copied over to laptop when needed. Could probably also hook server up to a TV and a sound system with a decent sound and graphics card and replace the need for any kind of Stereo or DVD players (well, probably Blu-Ray by then).

Do you play any musical instruments?
Nope, need some kind of co-ordination for that

Favourite book/author? (Unless it was asked already)
Big fan of the Nightwatch series by Sergey (Sergei?) Lukyanenko.
I generally have trouble keeping with books all the way true (for a nerd I have a shockingly short attention span), but couldn't put these down.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?
I shouldn't find it so hard to think of anything for this.
I'd like the price of technology to fall through the floor though.

    What's your favourite thing?
    Computers?

If you could have one small animal live in your hair/beard,what would it be?
A wise owl, who would pop out and give me advice from time to time.

What made you grow the beard?

There's no glass that I can see, but the bottle of pepsi is pretty much completely full.

If I could stay on to do a post-grad degree for more than a year, or research, and never have to leave college it'd be great

Good, although I think I'd have to make sure I had a decent home and some fancy toys. But I imagine the ruler of the world would get that without having to be corrupt.

What colour would you secretly like to dye your beard?
I think anything bright and cheerful would be nice.

    Google or Yahoo?
Google, purely because I haven't used anything Yahoo! related in years, and the only Yahoo! related things I've had the misfortune to come across are awful and seem full of 12 year olds.

    Fame or fortune?
Fortune. Being completely unknown is grand if I have food on my table and tons of free time.

Linux is what uncool kids use when they dislike Windows but are still too cool to use a Mac.

What's your best memory ever in the world?
This one time I had all-you-can-eat for lunch AND a 3 course meal for dinner.
Wait, that was only a couple of days ago.

No idea, probably a ridiculously long time

I hate exclamation marks!?! This is news to me!

What level is your Pokewalker Pokemon now?
Dunno, I haven't actually played it in ages, and he can only level up once in there at a time.

How many hours a day do you spend online?
Depends on what you mean by online.
I'm pretty much always in the computer labs in DCU during the day, so I'm at a laptop connected to the internet, but usually only half-using it, due to people talking etc.

What irritates you most about society, and what do you like most about it?

    I don't, but that's just because I'm a manly man
What irritates you most about society, and what do you like most about it?
Despise that most people tend to be driven by nothing but selfishness and over-emotional response to thing.
I like pretty much all the basic ideas of society though, you know, having people specialise in specific areas and advance in them rather than everyone looking out for themselves entirely and not being able to specialise enough to make advances.

    Favourite time of year?
I'd say summer due to the freedom associated with it, but maybe that's not a good enough reason
Do you like to celebrate your birthday?
    Not particularly
    Any good luck charms?
    Nope, not really
    Do you believe in fate?
Not in the traditional sense of the word, but the idea of determinism intrigues me

At one point it was pretty much half-way down my back, like proper, long even for a girl, long.
I'm sure if I went looking I could probably find pictures, but not sure.

Do you have a television in your apartment?
I don't, but I have the best internet connection ever, so who needs to rely on TV for shows/films?

Favourite, or at least one of your favourite films?
Erm... I'm going to say Pulp Fiction is amazing, but I think I've seen it too much to still consider it the best.

Any other country you'd like to live in, or are you happy with Ireland?
A similar question was asked and I came to the conclusion of Canada.
If language wasn't an issue I'd love to live in one of the Scandinavian countries, Germany or France.

I love pizza, generally I'll go for a more meaty one, pepperoni a lot of the time, though if there's one with chicken available without stuff like onions and mushrooms I'd get that.
Peppers are ok, I'd get one without if I could but if they're there I'll eat them.

    Chocolate.
Unless crisps count as sweets, <3 crisps.

I just made this evening a tiny little script to facilitate facebook stalking, Shameless plug.
You could look at that and try make it suck less, making it less badly written, more efficient, or have more features should be easy enough.
There's even a list of shortcomings at the end of the post.

So far it's been handy enough in terms of difficulty.
Programming lecturer in semester 1 is a legend, as was the lecturer who did my programming tutorials this semester.
Apparently I'll have a ton of awesome lecturers next year too.

Also most modules seem to have a strong Continuous assessment part, which is both handy in terms of actually learning the stuff practically (You cannot learn programming without actually sitting down and writing programs at a computer, regardless of how some courses operate) and takes the pressure off with exams.

What is your opinion of this poem? :P

    I saw her in a field, a stone-proud woman
Hugging the monster Passion's granite child,
Engirdled by the ditches of Roscommon,
Stone ditches round her waist like serpents coiled.
Her lips were frozen in the signature
Of Lust, her hair was set eternally,
No Grecian goddess, for her face was poor,
A twisted face, like Hardship's face, to me.
And who she was I queried every man
    From Ballaghaderreen to grassy Boyle,
And all replied: a stone Pygmalion
Once lifted to a grey terrific smile.
I said: At dawn tomorrow she will be
Clay-sensuous. But they only smiled at me.
