    is vinnie jones the lead?

    No David Lyons from ER.

    It sounds like The Fugitive

Indeed it does, but it's on NBC and it has Summer Glau in it. I fear the gods are already stacking the odds against it.

I hope it gets a full series, and more (if it's actually any good).

People diss NBC, but to be fair they can pretty loyal to shows that do well or even ones that are only doing reasonably well - they've renewed Chuck for a 4th season so I can't fault them on that...
They f**ked up last year with the Jay Leno/Conan thing, but they've been decent about their scripted shows - if it's a good show and performs reasonably well, they won't drop it...
Previous Summer Glau shows have been on Fox, who are notorious for cancelling shows... Maybe she'll fare better on NBC...

This is the first trailer I've seen this year that has made me really want to watch a show.
I've no idea what the attraction with Summer Glau is though.

It's got freakin' Vinnie Jones and Martin Klebba of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. I swear to Jehova, if they team up as villains then this show is on to a win!

'The Cape is not like Heroes'

    Thank feck for that!

Shame really that we have to wait until next year for it.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s124/the-cape/news/a259251/the-cape-creator-teases-first-season.html
He continued: "Episode 2 sort of takes the themes of the pilot to a much deeper, richer place and delivers our newest rogue Bluebeard. Episode 3 is a creepy treasure hunt that unearths a number of Palm City secrets. We'll also get a glimpse into the origin of a major upcoming villain, The Lich. In Episode 4 we learn a lot more about Max Malini and the sometimes bloody history of The Cape."

The writer added that he wanted all of the 'powers' featured in the series "to have some basis in reality".

"The general rule of this show is that it's a no-powers, costumed crime-drama," he said.

Details have been revealed of the second episode of NBC's upcoming superhero drama The Cape.
CapeSite reports that the installment will be titled 'Bluebeard' and will focus on the villain mentioned in the title.

The sinister character will apparently wear "a leather surgical mask on his face" and "a long jacket with a dirty French Victorian look to it".

His costume will include "slings of surgical knives" and he will use butcher knives to attack his victims.

The episode will also explore the home life of former police detective Marty Voyt (Dorian Missick) and introduce viewers to the character's family.

The Cape is expected to air on NBC during the 2010-2011 television season as a midseason replacement.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s124/the-cape/news/a296402/mena-suvari-elliot-gould-for-the-cape.html

Mena Suvari and Elliot Gould will both appear in forthcoming episodes of NBC drama The Cape.
Creator Thomas Wheeler told CapeSite that Suvari will play a character known as Dice.
"The Mena Suvari episode... is almost tipping into sci-fi a little bit," he revealed. "But again, this is a non-supernatural show, but we sort of flirt [with science-fiction] and push the envelope in some ways."
Wheeler praised the strength of the show's scripts for attracting "wonderful" guest stars.
"We have Elliot Gould coming up," he confirmed. "There are some really fun, interesting actors and... we're doing a lot of work on the writing side to make sure the scripts are fun, and with characters that are fun to play [and] that are different, with strong dialogue."
Other actors confirmed for guest roles on the show include Illeana Douglas, Chad Lindberg and Izabella Miko.
The Cape will launch with a two-hour premiere on January 9. The first episode will be repeated in the show's regular timeslot at 9/8c the following Monday.

I get the feeling this is going to be Summer Glau's Castle. Probably not as good as what she could be doing, but probably going to last a hell of a lot longer because of it.

Haven't got around to watching the first hour of the premiere..

.. might do it tonight or just wait til tomorrow.

Watched the first couple of minutes, and it didn't strike me as to anything special to be honest - a tad run-of-the-mill.

How many of Richard's 10,000 posts are essentially him talking to himself in threads?

I post updates on a wide variety of tv, instead of moaning why not thank me?

And to further p"ss you off...i prestent this: http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/01/cape-early-review-summary.html

Here are some early reviews collated by AICN of NBC's new show The Cape, which airs a 2 hr premiere tonight.

    The New York Times says:
… operates energetically within the conventions of the superhero story. …

    The Los Angeles Times says:
… it is almost wholly a cocktail of things you have seen before. Still, novelty is not the point here, but rather a wallow in old tropes and verities. … Marked by logical elisions, word-balloon dialogue and conveniently located plot holes though it may be, this is a machine for putting its heroes in tight spaces and watching them kick their way free, and it does its work efficiently and with flair.

    The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:
… For anyone who's seen a superhero show before, there's nothing new in this latest iteration about a cop-turned-vigilante crime fighter. Move along. …

    The San Francsico Chronicle says:
… a promising television program that would have been a lot better if the producers were aware of its ridiculousness. … Viewers looking for layered storytelling and subtle acting should renew their subscriptions to Showtime and HBO …

    HitFix says:
… I just wish it was a better show. … all the color in the margins doesn't matter if the man at the center of the picture is a bore, which Lyons unfortunately is. The square-jawed, utterly sincere hero is a hard thing to pull off without seeming stiff - what's it been, 32 years since Christopher Reeve did it in "Superman"? - and without that kind of commanding presence from its hero, "The Cape" winds up seeming sillier than it intended to be. …

    TV Squad says:
… It's definitely not reinventing the superhero story for our time -- in fact, the drama borrows so heavily from the usual caped-crusader sources that it may start to feel too familiar, and that could be a problem. But in its first two hours, 'The Cape' presents an origin story with panache, energy and a notable sense of style. …

    The Boston Herald says:
… aspires to be “The Dark Knight” but unfurls more like the campy 1960s “Batman” TV series. … There’s certainly enough action to sate viewers, and Lyons is an adequate stand-in for “Knight” star Christian Bale, but the story is nonsensical and the dialogue jarringly arch. …

    USA Today says:
… There are many problems with NBC's latest attempt to bring a comic book sensibility to TV, but the primary one is basic: A cape is simply not exciting or convincing as a superhero weapon. And making constant jokes in the dialogue about the flaw isn't the same as fixing it. … another problem: The show's "sensible" answers make no sense. There's no believable explanation offered for his illusion-based disappearance act or his ability to send a man flying via cape-wrap alone. How do you do that without super-strength, or at least a super-lever? If The Cape knows, he's not telling.

    Variety says:
… an extremely fun two-hour launch that shrewdly mixes comicbook imagery with the right measure of playful humor. Part "Batman," part "Robocop," the semi-futuristic vision of an ailing metropolis in need of a savior will be tough to sustain on a weekly basis, but the first mission succeeds as an original leap into this genre -- bridging the perilous gap between what works on the printed page vs. live-action. …

Meh...i'm not recomending this, just seen the first two. It's all very VERY cheesy!...and not in a good way. It's a mashup of every genre and superhero movie/tv show you've seen. It's got The Flash, Robocop and a Batman.

On paper that sounds good, but this imo is all rather poorly executed and the pacing seems dodgy. Some of the dialogue is utterly pathetic, the characters of Chess, Cain and Scales are soo one dimentional they border on folly.

The only one i actually like is Dana, the stitched up cops wife...not only is she superhot but i think she probably played her part the best. As for Cameron....ah, i mean Orwell, it's Summer Glau by-the-numbers....but hey, nice clothes!, love the car!, where do you get all the money?, pimpin' your fine self out maybe?

The cardies are everything you'd expect, i remembered that blonde cardie from Save The Last dance 2....huh?, never seen it?....yeah, no one did.

David Lyons, i'm not feeling his pain or superhero angst, this is a guy who gives cardie criminals access codes to rob banks!, the so-called good cop stealing from the good citizens of Palm City??????????

The CGI was really quite bad, the initial opening action piece of the commisioners car blowing up, woeful CGI!....not to mention good cop was two feet away...and survived a massive explosion!

Tom Wheeler has used every scrap of every comic book, movie and tv show he's seen to creat a hodge podge mix that simply dosen't blend well. Will i continue to watch?...yeah, why?, i'm a comic book geek, it's got just about enough to see the next ep.

Tbf they do seem to be injecting a bigger story arc with Tarro, but to the average Boardsie....this show might not be for you.

Lets check out viewer opinions: http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/01/poll-what-did-you-think-of-cape-pilot.html

Wow! That was a mess.... from terrible writing and trite dialog, to terrible plot pacing and bad FX... to bad scoring and predictability.... just a mess. At least the acting was bad.... I would have had to say it was inconsistant if the acting were good, but alas, it was just bad all around. On top of all that... the lead actor was a cross between Kirk Cameron and Jonathan Tucker... with less acting ability. Consider I said LESS acting ability than Kirk....

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1593823/board/

    http://watching-tv.ew.com/2011/01/09/the-cape-tv-show/

Lol....people are calling it The Crap.

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/01/09/the-cape-premieres-will-its-ratings-be-shrouded-poll/77863/comment-page-4#comments

"I thought it was good, not great. Some parts were cheesy but it was a self-aware cheesy, like the running joke of the Cape not having a cape. I’ll definitely stick around for future episodes. It reminded me a lot of the 1990 series The Flash in look and tone."

^ nice to see others pick up on The Flash as i did.

    Ouch.. fairly scathing reviews.

I can't say I'm suprised - I've been saying for months now that the more footage I saw of it, the more I thought it looked distinctly poor.

    That plus "The Glau Curse"!

For a pilot it is excessively boring.

They raced, ergo Tom Wheeler, through the pilot and covered WAY to many things, from being framed, the being in with the bank robbing cardies, to superhero training, to fighting, and going full circle.

The dialogue at the end of ep. 1 with Borat....utterly shocking!, how can you end a pilot like that?

They were VERY lucky to have the second ep., which tbf was stronger, Cain as the Frenchie bad guy.....

They revealed Chess WAY to fast, in fact from the moment we saw him with a British accent you KNEW he was the CEO of ARK.

    SCATHING review here: http://www.avclub.com/articles/pilottarot,49783/

The Cape is awful. It just might be the worst TV series you see all year, and the year is only nine days old. It’s bad enough that you can watch it, proclaim it that, then feel fairly confident in saying so, even with the other 356 days to go. And yet something about it is so watchably terrible that I can’t wholly pan it. I can see why some critics I really respect kind of liked it, almost in spite of themselves. Somewhere, buried deep within itself where it’s almost afraid to even admit it exists, The Cape rather knows that it’s this bad, and it’s having fun with the fact that it exists and made it to network television at all. We’re adding it to the TV Club roster not because it’s terribly promising or because it’s good right out of the box or anything like that. We’re adding it because making fun of this show could become a new national nerd pastime. And unlike Heroes, it’s not going to get all defensive about being made fun of. It’ll wink right along with us.

The one thing that is constantly going through my head is OK - lots of banks are being robbed by people in circus costumes. Surely one of the places you'd check first is the circus, right? Also Summer Glau was was too trusting of the Cape from the get-go.

My issue is the "comedy" and intentional cheese, but is it intentional?
Is it deliberately campy and self aware?....imo, no.

I don't think it sets out to be a cringefest or cheesy, but it goes that way due to the poor dialogue and tone, it's sooo unfocused, it dosen;t know what it wants to be, taught superhero crimefighter a la Batman Begins or camp cheesfest of Batman & Robin or the original 60's show.

If Wheeler was trying to do an MTV video mashup, he failed.

^ ep. 2 is better, but slower paced. There is a scene with Dana and framed cop that is 100% like the first Superman movie...you'll understand when you see it, do report back :-)

Damn, I haven't seen one frame of this, but The Cape has gone from being my most anticipated show of the mid-season to "big pile of dung that I would do well to avoid" overnight :D

It might caputre the "it's sooo bad it's good" fraternity, but i doubt it.
Ratings, lets talk RATINGS! :D ....haha, ok....i think the first ep. will do a 2.6 Adult 18-49, then drop to a 2.2 in second ep.

My gut is telling me it'll slide week after week, but it all depends on the next 6 eps., you have to remember NBC only has 8 eps. in total scheduled, The Event returns March 7th. So the "final five" have not been given an airdate.

NBC is testing each show, if The Cape hits they'll bump The Event for later in the year and broadcast all 13 eps. of The Cape, if The Crap...oh, The Cape tanks it'll burn off it's last eps. after the May upfronts.

Further to the pilot, did anyone eyeroll at Chess?, he's introduced in a mask with a British accent in a very early scene, few minutes later Vince/The Cape is introduced to him, and bam!...not only does the CEO of ARK have a British accent they make SURE the viewers get the connection by doing a flashback of Chess, just in case the dumbos didn't get Chess was the baddie....... (sic)
