Tonight is their best chance at breaking the 1.0 rating on Monday night's. A really solid show is needed but I'm concerned that they'll somehow manage to wreck it

I almost wouldn't be surprised to see more people tuning into Raw just to see what they manage to do

I hope its RVD V Styles it new at least

I think RAW will still beat them in the ratings

Their is not a hope it will beat Raw on the ratings its just interesting to see if they get an increase really.

Although I think the publicity will do Raw good as even my dad said to me about how they aren't going to be there and they might cancel the show, if even he heard about it a lot of people have.

    Cheers for the source:):)

Wow, Hardy/RVD. I really don't know what to make of it.
RVD is on the Sacrafice PPV poster so I'd say there's a huge chance he'll be the no.1 contender

I just hope TNA get the ratings they deserve for that show, because that was one of of the best RAW/iMPACT or Smackdown's in the longest time, usually id be giving out yards for what TNA did tonight, especially giving away AJ and Van Dam on free TV, but tonight was the night for the kitchen sink and by god did they deliver

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

That was probably the best iMPACT! ever. I'm crushed that AJ lost the title but the pacing of the show tonight was awesome and we had three high-quality matches that were given good time. This is the formula TNA need to work with (obviously not new World champs every week but this kind of excitement can be maintained). Now that they've put the title on RVD, they better run with him.

Absolutely the way they built Joes return was fantastic television and gave an excellant reason to keep viewing, plus absense and return means hes a badass again which is awesome.. This definitely should TNAs formula going forward, simply storylines and great wrestling i really hope they've turned a corner

For those that weren't watching, RVD beat Hardy in a great match to become No. 1 Contender and then beat AJ in a really good match to win the TNA World title. The Samoa Joe of old returning and completely destroyed Team Flair in a Lethal Lockdown rematch (sans Hardy, RVD and the cage) and next week we have Team 3D vs. Morgan and a partner of his choosing for the Tag titles, Kaz vs. Moore for the X-Title and Flair vs. Abyss - Ring vs. Ring:

I'm surprised there was a world title change on Impact  I hope they keep the RVD/Styles feud going

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Sounds like some good matches but jesus did they need to continue burying Styles like that (unable to beat a past their prime 'superstar'/blow in who had already wrestled one match that evening). Glad to read that samoa joe came back strong but was there any explanation of where he's been, why no-one looked for him etc....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

Lst two TNA shows have looked really good on paper.

Must watch Lockdown and then this later today.

At TNA will let RVD smoke all the weed he wants as champ, unlike WWE.:pac:

Having your World Champ lose his title on free TV to a guy who was already in a big match that night is awful booking.

They could have had a month of building towards RVD vs Styles at the next PPV, but instead they blew it by putting it on free TV UNADVERTISED!!!!!!

TNA - Good matches, bad booking.

In fairness they were going against a potentially extremely weak Raw, so they needed something big... usually id completely agree with you on giving away a big match on free TV but in this instance TNA were completely justified in their booking imho

Completely OT, but I reckon if they ever want to turn Rob Terry heel all they have to do is change his name to John and have him shag the wife of one of the other lads on Team Hogan.:pac:

Just watched it there. It was a fantastic show. Can't recall any stupid sh*t (at least any that spoiled it for me) and the action in the ring was great.

I can see chopperbyrne's point about giving away some dream matches away for free but I think it was time to give Van Dam a run with the belt and see how he does as champ. Hopefully there will be a gain from it in the long run. I hope Van Dam gets a good few months with the strap.

Have they turned the corner? Well I've heard people speculating on that for years so I need more consistent shows to be a believer, but no doubt they have followed up a great PPV with a great TV show so let's see if it continues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

It's not the giving it away for free that was the main problem. It was unadvertised.

They advertised the #1 contenders match over a world title match that they were going to do a title change on.

    Ludicrous.

Well it could be argued they'd only be advertising it to the small number of loyal fans that have been watching anyway. I think the point of this show was to get people watching a bit like the one in January. They ballsed up their momentum from that show but perhaps they will have earned themselves another go with this effort.

PS I'd like to add Brooke Adams Miss Tessmacher's ass is a huge draw for TNA imo. :pac:

I think it was time to give Van Dam a run with the belt and see how he does as champ.

He's only been in the company about 4 months though and from what i've seen and read he hasn't really done much to deserve a title run. RVD should be used to put over the home grown TNA guys and build them into stars in their own rights, being able to beat their longest established star (who was fresh) after already wrestling a match pretty much pisses on the homegrown talent in my opinion.

But then again, since Hogan and Bischoff arrived they've been doing that anyhow.

RVD putting over the guys should happen but not when he's still seen as a fresh talent and when the company is dying on its arse. They need viewers and Van Dam jobbing to Styles wouldn't benefit anyone if it does a 0.whatever.

The company has been getting slaughtered in the ratings. I don't think this is a fault of AJ but if a new direction is seen as a priority, and they want to put it on a babyface, then it basically had to be RVD. I don't see who else they could have put the belt on. Jeff is way too risky due to his off-screen troubles and Angle is recovering from injuries.

Fans weren't tuning in while AJ was champ but they might tune in to see RVD as champ. I like Styles, but in star power terms he's not on Van Dam's level.

I prefer if Hardy had cost RVD his title shot and have all three of them feud maybe add Joe also to the mix just an idea

I'd disagree, this is the TNA heavyweight champion, not any guy. He's supposed to be "the man", not "the chump". I'd have thought that Styles beating RVD would make new viewers watching think "hang on a sec, the TNA heavyweight champion, that I don't really know, just beat RVD, the whole damn show, maybe i should be paying more attention to him" instead they get to see (if they tuned in that is) an already tired RVD beat a fresh AJ and think "meh, theTNA champ can't even beat a wwe guy who's wrestled already".

    just my opinion though...

They could maybe redeem themselves if they let Joe squash RVD next week :)...one can dream.

BTW the rings that Flair and Abyss are fighting over next week, they're not wwe hall of fame rings are they? Tell me TNA aren't that retarded.

say what you want about RVD but he has always been super over with the fans no matter where he has been

New viewers aren't watching though which is their big problem. I'd agree with your thoughts if they were averaging around a 1.5 but they have been way off that and are desperate to turn the ratings around. Tbh I don't think a casual wrestling fan is going to care about AJ Styles if they hear he has beaten Van Dam as they likely don't know about him. But if they hear RVD is the TNA Champ they might tune in and then they can discover Styles that way (assuming he feuds with RVD from now on)

Agree with you on the rings though. They are the Hall of Fame ones and it's a storyline I don't see the point in.

That was a really good impact. Probably the best since Steiner was the ring announcer. Good matches, made sense, and most shocking of all clean finishes
Also, I LOVE Matt Morgan's "we" gimmick. Even if the show goes down the crapper again I'll keep watching wile he's on.

I totally disagree I think by doing this they have shown that anything can happen on impact (especially live) and as a result people will want to watch the next episode as soon as possible and will find it harder to switch to raw (incase they miss something etc).

After all thats how wwf overtook wcw in ratings back in the day (the rock losing the title to mankind on raw)

Also for me the biggest plus was got to be the cohesive structure and natural flow that this episode had (something that was missing since I started watching it - when hogan and bischof came).

but its not like WWE are stupid enough to promote a match tna havent even promoted. Biscoff announced Foley was going to win the belt on WCW

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

Putting the belt on RVD is a decnt move IMO. I enjoyed Styles' run and it was a long enough title reign to be meaningful and significant.

But RVD on top sets up a lot of new and fresh matches and feus. AFAIK he can have fresh feuds with Joe/AJ/Jarrett/Foley/Sting/Pope/Nigel/The Band. Keeps the top of the card feasonable new and exciting. WWE never did a proper feud between he and Angle either I don't think.

Oh I know that Im just making the point that having the title change hands unexpectantly and without buil-up or advertising isnt always as crazy an idea as it sounds.

Guys I'm so fukking angry. Had the impact title change spoiled on me by some guy capitalizing the change while giving out about TNA. fukking ruined my day. I realise it's my fault being on the page at all but I think i'm done with the internet in general. (not boards.) I had Swagger's title change ruined on me multiple times as well. It's really getting me down.

    :( i'm a sad panda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭chordtype

Ruddy hell was TNA decent last night. They had great pacing, great wrestling and even built up next weeks show.

They also did something which I haven't seen WWE do in ages. They made a title change a big deal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 198 ✭✭mr.mayo

Absolutely fantastic show, nonstop excitement right throughout but I'm still very disappointed in TNA. I can't believe they gave RVD the title on Free TV, it should have been RVD vs AJ in the main event of Sacrifice in a 20+ minute match that was hyped to death. AJ has had a 7 month reign, the last 4 of which he has been the #1 heel in the company. His downfall and title loss shouldn't be done on Monday Night Impact in a match that lasts less than 10 minutes, it's anti-climatic. Imagine if Benoit had won the world title the week before WM 20 on free TV in a 5-10 minute match, I think its fair to say we'd all have been pretty pissed. Coming into that Mania, everyone was behind Benoit and wanted to see him win but at the same time we wanted to see HHH lose the title almost as much. Apart from a brief Goldberg title reign, he had held the belt for what seemed like forever. Thankfully their match was done perfectly, there was some great storytelling and at times it seemed like HHH was actually going to win, that made Benoit's victory all the sweeter when it did eventually happen
Compare that to what TNA have now done, they've deprived us of that classic ppv moment where the fan favourite RVD finally ends AJ's reign of terror after an epic battle with loads of counters, close finishes etc. All they've really succeeded in doing is making AJ look weak and throwing away a potential PPV draw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

I'd put my money on them doing a Styles/RVD rematch at Sacrifice maybe with Hardy thrown in the mix so you'll still get your PPV main event match.
