The "Gold Cup" looks interesting with Denman (not that I'd back him at 2.25), Joncol does all his best on very soft/heavy ground and the going is officially good at 5.00 he's just too short. I'd go e/w on War Of Attrition at 15.00, has won on good, and its his last run ever according to Mouse Morris so might be worth a "nice story" fiver.

blueberry boy should win tomorrow..and heard sivota will win at the festival a few weeks ago so keep an eye out for him

denman might just win but ill avoid him at the odds
lost my bollox on him on gold cup day
needless to say when kauto departed i was thinking
i was sitting on a winner

twist magic for me tomorrow 11/4
A great jumper, goes well around here.
Its a very hot race with padydeplasterer, kalahari king
    and sizing europe in opposition
never runs well at cheltenham but outside there
he's probably the best two mile chaser out there
with the exception of master minded
it won the same race two years ago when favourite
but only had the likes fair along and schindlers hunt
to beat so a much tougher task.

Really cant have Twist Magic in this race. The horse doesnt stay a truly run 2 mile race. With Kalahari King,Forpaddydeplaster,Sizing Europe and even Scotsirish all stay further than this trip cant help but think that the early pace will be to strong for Twist Magic to last home..

What a start to the festival with argubaly the race of the week, The Champion Chase (2mile).

Ferdy Murphy's star chaser Kalahari King came 3rd at Cheltenham behind Big Zeb( absent) and Forpadydeplasterer. He unseated at the second at Aintree so in truth he has had only 2 runs this season and Ferdy is delighted with him, but can we trust him. He has won at Punchestown and Musselburgh but for me he may prefer to go right handed.
Sizing Europe comes here instead of the taking on the novices and although i backed him for the Arkle, he clearly goes best fresh and is this a long enough break(35 day). Scotsirish ran a cracker in the Topham but he is just shy of grade 1 at 2 miles and stable jock Paul Townend has chosen Fairyhouse winner Golden Silver who looks the best of the Irish contigent but the winner for me is Paul Nicholls Twist Magic. He has shown a liking for the track and his last run can be ignored as he simply hates Cheltenham.

In the Novices Chase 6:40 I can't understand why Paul Townend is not The Midnight Club and for that reason and that reason alone i'm leaving him alone. Zaarito is more likely to hit the deck like a bag of spuds and Davy Condon should be on dange money to sit on it so its Gilligan time again with Jadanli . Winner last time out at 25/1 in the Powers Gold Cup, he can go in again and keep up Gilliagns rich run of form

In the 4.20 Novice hurlde I really think we could see a better Loosen My Load and with General Miller trading so short he's worth a chance back on better ground

In the first race there really is no point looking past new super lady Katie Walsh on Wedger Pardy. She won on this last season and it won the year before and loves it round this course and the weight is over rated in these types of race

With no Ruby what do people think of Top Jock?
Townend 7/4-13/8 with Boyles, Lads & Hills but 5/2 with PP
McCoy is my fancy at 5/1 with Stan James - 11/4 with PP
Guess we know which way their book is!

I really fancy Twist Magic, fabulous horse when gets going and I think AP will keep him nice and tight over the fences. Scared of putting a win on him due to the competition but a hefty e/w will be placed on him.

Hopefully Townend will bring Blackstair home aswell :D Had Golden Silver at Aintree but I think it will be a bit too quick for him tomorrow.

Does anybody fancy double double for a place?

mate of mine was at the preview night last night and ruby was very sweet on twist magic so he looks a solid bet if on song, blackstair should win imo, just couldnt get home on that bog in fairyhouse

    selections for punchestown

    some slam @ 10-1 e/w in the 4.20

    scotsirish @14-1 e/w in the 6.05

    both have outside chances

  • Moderators Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭x PyRo

    **These are NOT Tips**

    4:20 - General Miller @ 7/4

Far too short but the best horse in the race imo. Will have a decent sized bet at this price and if he drifts out a bit i'll go in even bigger. He's got to have a serious chance if not affected by his race a few weeks ago.

    4:55 - Grand Opera @ 14/1 e/w

Ground shouldn't be a problem. Barry G on board. Well weighted too. Notched up a hattrick in August 09 before being terrible next time when put up 20lbs. Back down 9lbs and has a chance if continuing to improve.

    5:30 - Sizing Ireland @ 6/1

Ran very green on debut when sent off 4/6 fav. Should improve for that run and show potential here. Overpriced and pretty safe e/w bet at least.

    6:05 - Kalahari King @ 4/1

Class horse, fell last time out. Back to his best trip now and looks to have a good chance. This is a tight race though so i'll go e/w just to be safe.

    6:40 - Zaarito @ 11/4

If he stays up, he'll win in my opinion. Has pure class, just seems to panic when put under pressure. Hopefully he'll give his best here and show how good he really is.

It was playing up and refused to go... ruby said he could tell by the way it was acting, hence the warning above, "if on song"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭RocketRonnie

Heading to Puchestown tomorrow, I had a bad Cheltenham, a worse Fairyhouse and an abysmal Aintree, so in bad need of a few winners for this week...

My fancies for tomorrow are Rigour Back Bob 4.55 and Doctor Deejay 4.20

    fingers crossed....

How does everyone feel about Quevega making the trip tomorrow? 5 furlongs is the step up I think, don't rate Karabak at all and was thinking of throwing a nice wager on him

Was also wondering about Freneys well for a place? Should be a solid price and Nina is a gem for chases , 4m 3f for this.

Probably take Psycho and Clear Riposte at nice e/w bets aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

    Powerstation e/w bet for me.

Quevega had the option of going for the Rabobank Champion Hurdle. A race that I think she would have had a serious chance in.

Willie has said that he's stepping her up because of the good ground and that while the trip is a bit of an unknown he's happy that she'll get the distance. You also have to look at the jockey's choice. If Townend was that worried about the trip he would have gone for Mourad. Time discloses all - we'll know this evening whether he gets the trip or not! Karabak is a good horse on his day and is entitled to take his chance, I wouldn't underrate him.

JT has the ride on L'ami because he's been on him all season, so I wouldn't be worried about the jockey choice. If you saw the final race last night you'll know just how good JT is. Timed it perfectly after being badly hampered after the 1st.

We haven't seen the best of L'ami this season he's been used to bring Garde into his races. My worry would be Freney's will be used in a similar fashion today. Headsontheground will go off in front and try to stretch them. If Freneys drops in 3rd - 4th to keep the pace up then the best of his race might be over when they get down to the business end. I'd expect to see L'ami sit a bit further back than he has done in his previous races this year.

L'ami is fancied by the yard but he's a very short price and is plenty short enough. As a betting race Sizing Australia might be the value in the race, depending on his EP/SP. Having said that Freneys is a good horse and may well fill the place money. I'd be surprised to see it win but then that's only my opinion.

Psycho will be fairly short and I don't think he'll represent each-way value. If you forgive Sports Line his last race then he has to represent value at 8/1 at the moment.

I think Clear Riposte is a good bet.

EMMPAT in the 4.15 represents value at 14/1 payin on 4 places aswell hes a ver consistent 12 yr old has been winnning on the flat over hurdles and over the bigger fences cant see him out of the places and could even win it,wont be backing much today but i will be sticking a few quid from yesterdays winning E/W on him
