Discussion in work. How do you spell Naggin/Nagan/Nagin, of Vodka for example. 200ml I believe it is, but am open to correction.

Google is inconclusive, Wikipedia has no entry. Encyplopedia seems to suggest Nagan.

I'd have gone for Naggin myself.

I always just referred to it as the "small bottle."

    Drink, booze, gargle, spirits.

    It's naggin

I always wondered why they couldn't just incorporate the spelling Nagon in order to link it with Flagon and harmonize alfresco knacker drinking standards?

You are using the wrong dictionary TBH.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=naggin

The only dictionary you will ever need!

It also has entries for the other two:

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nagin
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nagan

Tried Urbandictionary alright, the trouble is it tends to accept results from people who can't spell. First time its let me down though.

I'd spell it Naggin myself. I'd imagine that 'Nagan' is the way they say it and spell it in posh areas!! :D

Look at the definitions given for those 2. Completely wrong. Naggin is the accepted spelling TBH.

A naggin is generally 200 ml. Not 400 as professed in Nagan. And is not a quarter bottle of anything TBH.

Very true. I don't use the word because I don't use that size bottle. It's fcuking tiny and gone after 2 glasses!

You can only be young once, but you can be immature forever.

I'm not asking you to say it. I'm asking you to spell it.

Discussion in work. How do you spell Naggin/Nagan/Nagin,

Is this a public sector nagin or a private sector nagin?

If it's public sector, then you better be working for weights and measures buddy.
    Otherwise..... BACK TO WORK.

naggin for the 200ml and did anyone else call the next size up a "daddy naggin"? :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭wireless101

"Naggin" is just the Irish rip off of the actual term "noggin" I believe

No, used to, all still call them "double naggins" even though there not a double at all.

Its not double though. Its called a half or a shoulder.

It's not half either TBH! It's one shot off double so double is close enough! :D

I would call it a 375 ml though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

It is 350ml though which is half a bottle!

A half of wine is 375ml.

    It's a full 350ml bottle!

It'd be half a bottle if it was a half full 700ml bottle!

    Or half empty, of course.

Where does the whole shoulder thing come from? Never got that one and it drives me mad!

naggon is the way i spell it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭Jev/N

    Naggin = 200 ml
    Shoulder = 350 ml

Funnily enough they had a 100 ml size in England, larger that what I would call a 'shot bottle'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭concussion

Colloquially I've only heard naggin but it should be noggin and is the same measure as a gill. According to NASA and the University of North Carolina it should also be 142 ml as opposed to 200 ml :p
