Thinking of him, his family and his team mates. A thought also for all the players involved in the match where this occurred.

Absolute tragedy, it was reported on the facebook page
With great regret we can now confirm that Philly has passed to his eternal reward. When the long whistle blew he was in the arms of his loving family, surrounded by friends, team mates. His short life was defined by decency, honesty, an inspiring tenacity and gentle humility. To all who mourn Philly we send our sincere sympathies, we especially think of Phil, John and Michael as they come to terms with their loss.

    RIP

I well believe it, the effort men put in for their counties with little or no success is astonishing. il admit i dont know much about leitrim gaa, but by all accounts they have lost a very good footballer and a gentleman. my thoughts are going out to his family and friends and also to the poor unfortunate man who he collided with. it must be a distressing time for him too

As well as Philly's family, friends and team mates, I think we also have to spare a thought for the other player in the clash, I cannot imagine how he is feeling today. A freak accident that has claimed the life of a talented footballer.

I am shocked. My heart goes out to everyone connected to this. Cannot be easy for the player he clashed with either. Its a very sad day for the GAA community.

He said he was (effectively) still alive. The poor chap is dead and has been since early afternoon (depending on who you talking to). RTE are idiots.

This is so sad. What a terrible thing to happen :(

Hard to imagine how stunned and heartbroken the family, friends, teammates with both Mohill and Leitrim must feel. Also must spare a thought for the poor guy whose knee he hit his head off. Even though there is nothing he could have done, it must be so horrible for him.

    Just tragic all round.

    RIP Phil

Horrible to hear about this. Nearly numbed here, knowing what can happen from an innocuous clash. Very saddened by this, and wish the best for his family, friends and club.
