Kettlebell Workshop

    Hi All

Have just come in from a kettlebell workshop (was held in Raw Condition Gym) and it was really really good. Instructor was very good at teaching the different techniques and is in really good shape. He obviously lives what he teaches.

Went through the correct technique for the double handed and single handed swing, clean and press and snatch. Also covered squats, squat thrusts, squat lunges, Turkish get-ups and windmill.

Then went through some isolation work for shoulders, biceps, triceps and core.

As well as doing the above exercises, there were two 8 minute non stop workouts where you cycled through different exercises for 30 seconds each, transitioning straight from one exercise to another. These were fairly tough.

I know that I am going to ache in places I did not know existed tomorrow, but it's all good. I now have a better understanding of how to use my KB's to best effect. I actually was worried about missing my normal gym session today. But I have to say, I feel more drained now then I would have after my normal session, and that is saying something as I would have been squatting and dead lifting heavy (for me) today.

€75 euros for 3.5 hour workshop, price included a 16kg KB and a 40 page booklet to take away. All in all a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon :)

Off now to spend some time with my foam roller, stretch and then a warm soak to try to lessen the pain I am expecting tomorrow :D

**Edit** The free kettlebell is usually 16kg for men and 8kg for women, though this is negotiable with Mark (the instructor). If you want to get a different weight you can phone him before the workshop and agree to pay the difference between the free KB and the KB you want. I found the 16kg KB more than enough for the workshop today.

Wasn't wrong about the stiffness and achey feeling :D Even after a 40 minute foam rolling and stretching session yesterday evening.

Gym should be interesting this evening.

The All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting Federation will be teaching two classes at Sports Expo Ireland one on strenght and conditioning for sports and the other on fitness training aimed at weight loss and toning.

You will have the chance to see exercise demonstrations, techniques, why they are done, programmes ect and a chance to ask the trainers questions.

The trainers will also have a stand with equipment for sale and will be available for a chat afterwards and are happy to talk about training, routines and how to improve your performance.

This will be a great introduction to kettlebells
