With just 6 TD's and 3 Councillors, should a party with only 9 elected officials in the entire country be responsible for running the country ?

    TDs Cllrs MEP
    FF 78 218 3
    FG 51 340 4
    Lab 20 132 3
    OTH 5 136 2
    SF 4 54 0
    GR 6 3 0

They're not responsible for running the country. I hear Fianna Fail are involved somewhere too.

    What's the alternative?

Don't think FF are responsible either, after all it was all the Lehman bros fault

The greens are gonna end up like a speeded up version of the P.D.s, chewed up and spat out IMHO.

Yes FF are involved too, let me re-phrase the question.

Is it right that a party with only 9 elected officials should be in government ?

    9 is bad.

Where does this leave Mary Harney? She is a senior Minister after all and isnt in a party

But who would propose ridiculous ****ing taxes if not the greens?

I think that's kind of sad though, FF seem to get away with it, almost as if that's what they expect of FF, but more is expected from the PDs/Greens!!

just to set the record straight, the greens have

    6 TD's
    3 Senators
    1 NI Local Assembly
18 Local Councilors in the Republic
3 Local Councilors in the North

    How many elected senators?
Are the greens in NI the same party as the greens in the republic?
18 local councillors is only something to brag about if you set the party up 3 days before the election.
Are the greens in NI the same party as the greens in the republic?

    Democratically they should be.
Morally and competently they should not.

that's what you get for having a pr system.

    You are incorrect.
The greens have 3 councillors in the republic of ireland.

Following the resignation of Deirdre De Burca the greens have 2 senators
only one of which who was elected. Dan Boyle was appointed to the senate by the taoiseach.

It doesn't matter how many elected representatives they have in the north, that is a different duristiction.

Should the Greens really be in government.

    no

making the tax payer pay twice for briquettes
first the dole recepient gets extra money to cover rise
then the tax payer has to pay the high price for briquettes, without refund

    mental

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,345 ✭✭✭landsleaving

    People still use briquettes?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭Kasabian

    People still use briquettes?

There are new white ones out now , made from some kind of formica , they are brilliant . They give off great heat and a beautiful blue flame.

I am one of those people that has to have a flame in the fireplace even when the heating is on , it's just comforting.

Should the Greens really be in government? //rhetorical question?

    no //answered here so no.

making the tax payer pay twice for briquettes
first the dole recepient gets extra money to cover rise
then the tax payer has to pay the high price for briquettes, without refund

//so the taxpayer pays 4 times for briquettes?

mental //The most correct statement in the whole post.

Wasn't John Gormley responsible for the farce that is our road tax system... where the well off can buy new cars (e.g 2008, 2009 or 2010 diesel car) and pay €150 road tax and the less well of have to pay €580 for an older diesel car.

Why is there not more of an uproar over this?

Greens hurt your pocket - FACT!!!

The so called Labour movement or Labour Party has long gone. Why dont they rename it their proper title Social Democrats.

Those green party saps have drank from the vat of corruption and want to hang onto their trappings of power for as long as possible. No doubt, they'll try to squeeze in as many muppet policies as possible, before their out the door.

Indeed the original post was directed at the green party, I just found it amazing in a political system involving Proportional Representation that a party with just 10 elected representatives could be partly responsible for government policy.

Have you ever seen such a bunch of smug, patronising, condescending a$$holes as the Greens. They talk as if they are so utterly superior and they have to explain things in simple words and phrases to us the unenlightened masses or "deniers" if you don't believe them or their policies.

John Gormley is good for a laugh though when he throws a hussy fit. Like when he was called "the minister for snow" or when he was being pushed to answer questions about his ministerial role swapping with ciaran cuffe and he said in his hissy little way that "I'm bored of those questions".

Amazing how the holier than thou greens got very accustomed to the trappings if power.

And they have(or will shortly) saddled us with high motor taxes, water rates, septic tank tax and of course a property tax.

You forgot to mention the €0.05 per litre carbon tax they stuck on the petrol in the last election helping it to rise to €1.30 a litre now.
A nice idea of a party but completly out of it's depth in government and far removed from reality, looking forward to the water taxes due in 2011.
Will be wiped out in the next election.
