Laser Treatment

    Hello lovely ladies,

Has anyone had laser treatment on their fanjita? If so, how much is it costing, how many sessions needed, and would you recommend it?

I'm currently paying €60 per Hollywood and am seriously thinking of going down the permanent route as I think in the long-run it's bound to be cheaper!

I would be seriously considering it myself if I could spare the dosh right now - Therapie in particular (I'm in Galway so I don't know about other clinics) are doing 80% off packages of 6 sessions, so for the extended bikini it's €578/475, brazilian €587/480, hollywood €660/540 (the second price is the "special offer" if you book on the day of your consultation, according to the pdf I have)

That works out to 110 per hollywood session - so it's twice what you're paying for waxing but it's eventually permanent. I'd definitely be going for it if I could afford it. (Can't even afford waxing right now so... yeah)

Thanks a mill for the info girl, really appreciate it! I definitely can't afford it either though :( Do you know how many sessions it takes? I'm really not very hairy so I don't think it would take much, finding the €60 every time a lot though!

Do you pay up front all in one go or per session??

They are very good prices; I know Therapie have gotten mixed reviews but if you're very pale with very dark hair(which I am) supposedly you'll be fine:)

I've heard the average is 6-9 sessions, less for people with the right skin/hair colour combination (because it's more effective)

I think you do have to pay all at once though.

I've been threatening to do this for an age. Might pop in there next week and see what they have to say :)

i'm getting it done, and i find it's great.. i've only had three sessions and the difference is amazing. [i have the ideal hair/skin type though] dark thick hair and pale pale skin! it works best because it's the pigment in the hair that the lazer works on.
in galway lazer clinic it's buy one area get another free, so you can get bikini and under arms for €500, which is pretty great considering the money you'd spend on waxing in the long run...

    edit: (for six sessions)

Would it work on sallow skin and quite light hair do you think?

apparently there will be an affect on any kind of hair, but thats the worst combination..

Anyone know if the laser procedure hurts to have done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 130 ✭✭catiny

I've had my bikini line done (with IPL laser) and would recommend it! i got a special for underarm/bikini for €480 ish!
some places have a pay as go type thing worked out too!

the first treatment ya may feel a little "pain" which is the equivalent of a pin prick but that's it!
it's painless in comparison to waxing!

I'm seriously considering getting this done

Just a little advice in this recessionary times; if you're paying in full for a course of treatments, pay by credit card, it's the only way you're sure to be protected if they shut down.

    That's a good tip, whoopsadaisydoodles. :)

At the risk of sounding stoopid, what's the difference between a Brazilian and a Hollywood? I always thought the Brazilian was the one where they take everything off but I think I'm mistaken..

Is this laser thingy meant to be totally permanent? Like forever??! €500 for no more bikini waxing/shaving sounds too good to be true.. :o

I may have to book a consultation.. ;)

I believe the hollywood is the porn star look, with everything off and that the Brazilian is everything except a bit of a landing strip (but the "lips" etc are bare, unlike with the extended bikini)

And, yep... totally permanent. I'd be jumping at the chance myself if I had the money!

This all sounds too good to be true, i'd be interested in finding out how permanent it is, anyone know from experience?

How long does the course take? A few months I assume..
I might wait until the winter when I'll be paler and won't have to worry about keeping out of the sun on holiday. :)

I've seen Urbana, off Grafton Street advertised- anyone any experience of them?

i got laser treatment last year- extended bikini. did work at the time, has started to grow back (altho admittedly didnt finish the course). honestly i found it too painful, used to come out after sweating from head to toe so couldnt bring myself to go back after 4 treatments. waste of money i know. maybe i have a low pain threshold i dunno, although i can tolerate waxing fairly good.
felt like someone snapping a poker hot elastic band against my skin. it was grand gettin the front "bit" done, but as soon as the girl lasered further back- it was horrendous
wasnt worth it for me anyway, and also i was told that it usually isnt 100% permanent that i would have to get topups

Ohh, I'd consider that. The underarm one especially. Doubt I'd be suitable for it though, hair is way too light.

When i was in the states this time last year, there was a case in Florida about a woman who paid for 10 sessions for a complete hollywood and because after a year she had some regrowth, she sued the place as they had claimed '100% hair free forever'

nothing is 100% with our bodies. it will work better for some people then others.

finished 6 sessions around easter, so far so good

Well this is interesting... I'd never considered it before! But now that I think about it, it sounds like a fantastic idea. I think I'd be a little freaked out about it being permanent though. I know a landing strip is fashionable right now, but what if it's a completely weird thing to have in 10 years? I must look into this more, but it does seem economical.

Anyone know anywhere in Cork that does it?

    +1

Never considered it before but definetly seems like a good option.

Just a word of warning, Therapie are always 70 or 80% off. It's a bit of a con as it's never 'full price'.

I got the extended bikini line done and it is brilliant! that was a couple of years ago and still no regrowth..except for maybe a few hairs here and there - I did find it sore but only the first couple of times then it's tolerable and I would totally recommend it.. Half thinking now of going back for a brazillian but I reckon it would be pretty painful on the bits and pieces area....
    Anyone else get that done?

oh and btw yeah you really should have dark hair and light skin..i think it works best

To be honest, I had half suspected that but at the same time, even if it's always that price it's not a bad one. Prohibitive for me at the moment but if I had a bit more money I'd have no problem going for it.

    Hi ladies,

I looked into this a while ago in Therpie in Dublin.

Basically they said that it works best when you have dark hair and fair skin (thats the ideal), the said if you have fair hair and darker skin you'd run the risk of growing, kind of 'white hairs' (only a few not many). You go for a treatment every 4 - ish weeks and shave in between...you can't wax otherwise it re-stimulates the hair and it will regrow.

After you have completed the treatment you can get a few isolated hairs (but not many and not very visible - but you can always go in and get more treatment on those stubborn ones) and the only way it would ever re-grow is if there are hormonal changes (eg. if you became pregnant).

Also something to be aware of coming into the summer....they don't recommend that you sun bathe while getting the treatment.

In regards to the pain of it it was described to me as a hot sensation on your skin and it felt like someone was snapping an elastic band on your skin......I don't know first hand though.

And as someone else said don't worry about this 80% off thing in Therpie, they always have this 'discount'!!!

Theres no harm in ringing them with any questions, but be wary when I rang they were very 'SELL SELL SELL'......

    Hope this helps!

Urbana and no Therapie (not all branches) are doing treatments with Soprano xl laser. Painless and more effective.
    http://www.urbana.ie/laser_hair_removal/laser_hair_removal_comparison.asp
it is a bit more expensive than other lasers.
Therapie told me 1,250e for normal laser underarms, full legs, brazilian for 6 sessions, and for 6 sessions same areas by soprano xl 1,400e.

Worth paying more if it really is as good as they say..and pain free
