my first trip to the white isle this year after years of wanting to go.anyone else going? any do's/donts regarding the island?

thinkin of stayin in playa den bossa to avoid the english chavs in san antonio. would be good to be beside bora bora.

club-wise is there anyway of getting cheaper admission?planning on doing:

    we love@space
swedish house mafia in pacha (slag me, i dont care!!)
    cream @amnesia
probably will go to whatever ibiza rocks gig is on that week too. seems likely we're going the week of pendulum.

any other nights worth not missing out on? i love to go to cocoon but wouldnt be suitable for the lads im going with.

any advice from ibiza regulars is welcome.

Headin over myself for the 3rd time on August 13th.
Try gettin the Jet apts in Playa den Bossa if you wanna stay there, Bora Bora will basically be your backgarden and Space is only a 5min walk away.

We love is a must, you can't miss this night.
Haven't been to Cocoon yet myself but will deffo be headin to it this time round.
Also, DC10 is back open, Monday mornings were always the big thing there after leaving we love @ space but with the new curfews on the island, dont know whats gonna happen with them.
*Curefews are no live music between 6am and 12pm i think*

Its a bit early for full line ups but you'll get them here:
    http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/club_dates_i.htm

Anything else ya need to know, let us know:cool:

    Do

*Stay in Playa Den Bossa (Jet Apts if Possible (Book them under the aparments name Bossa Mar, theyre cheaper, same complex just called a different name, and are all part of the jets)

*Get the free bus to Amnesia (left side of the road as you walk down to space from the Jets, just past the supermarket)

*Go to Cocoon, but don't bother with Sven Vath (packed to the rafters anyway, can barely get into the room). If ya can't go to Coccoon, go to Armada on the Tuesday

Space is the better club aesthetically(and musically for the most part), but Amnesia is easier to sneak drink/cameras into. Security arent as cuuntish and drinks are sliiiiiiiiightly cheaper. Plus the free bus there and back makes it handy out.

When I was there during the summer and there was unbelievable deals going on. Got into Space for a tenner one night, and amnesia for 15 or 20 I think it was. Managed to spend 150 euros in total from leaving Dublin, to getting home. Summer before was a totally different story.

Mostly people come up to ya with wristbands, or if you see them postering, ask them if they know where you can get any. We got alot of ours for space in the little bars around the jets.

Also if youre buying full price tickets, one of the best value places is in PdB. Worked out at least 5 or 10 euro cheaper than everywhere else we saw including San An when we were over there. If ya decide to stay in PdB I can attempt to give you directions.

    Dont

    * Get monged on your first night (theres no point in even saying it, but its nice to go in with hopes)

    * Go see Tiesto...even for the lightshow.

    * Dont ever think you can out-drug the effects of sleeping tablets.

    * Bother with Bora Bora (I'll get lynched for this) but any time Ive gone its just expensive booze and no vibe at all. Although I did tend to go late enough.

Been to Ibiza several times and stayed in different places on the island, Playa D'en Bossa is probably the best however San Antonio isn't all full of English chavs, sure the west end around 2am may be but in general San An has come on a lot over the years and is a great place to stay so don't dismiss it out of hand, id stay there again and we may even stay there this year (havent booked accommodation yet)

After a break last year as the missus was pregnant im going back this year for the closing partys (best time to go for sure) although it'll be a lot quieter this year as ill have the missus and young lad with me but we'll still manage to get a few nights out.

I'm gutted El Divino has gone, well Pacha have taken over it but f**k knows what they will do with it may turn it into some casino for knobheads with more money than sense,El Divino was the smallest club on the island but had some amazing nights like MN2S, anyway not short of places to go to, for me this time ill be avoiding the mega rip off big nites for the most part and i wanna check out the Zoo Project along with a few other smaller more affordable places, i may go to Pacha once for Defected in the House http://www.defected.com/news-reviews/latest/ibiza%2B2010%2Blineups/370 i should get guest list or at least get discounted entry for that, anywhere that plays uplifting house of the funky and soulful kind will be good for me, even some deep house will be good (although it would be boring all night) ive not had time to check out the complete listings and info yet, we're not going until Sept anyway so plenty of time.

Check the Ibiza Spotlight forums and Ibiza Voice for some good info, watch out for flyer crew on the beach you often get freebies, shop around, don't buy anything from the lucky lucky men (Africans selling all types of dodgy sh*t including fake pills and flour you have been warned)avoid the Italian posers absolute muppets!!

Enjoy your first time, lovely island but can be an utter rip off in the clubs!

Someone mentioned Bora Bora unfortunately it is a pale shadow of what it used to be, nowadays you have mean looking steroid fuelled security snarling at you to get off if you get up and dance on the tables where this used to be encouraged, the music too got too heavy, tech house on a blazing sunny afternoon is a big no no, some blissed out House with some funky later on in the afternoon used to be the order of the day, atmosphere isn't what it used to be with the bloody Italians standing around posing leering at birds!!

Go to Salinas instead, far far better and Jon Sa Trincha sets there are the stuff of legend, much classier than Bora Bora

Heard of it but didn't know where it was when i was over.

thought id just bring back my old thread.

anyways......long story short, it looks like my mates are gonna pull out of the trip, thankfully nothing was booked. bit annoyed to say the least, they know how badly i wanted to go. that being said im now considering just saying feck it, ill go on my own-is that weird/sad?? is ibiza the type of place that can ben enjoyed by yourself?

i dont think it would bother me too much, im an only child so used to being by myself if ya get me.im sure in a club of thousands i could blend in! are people friendly enough over there- i.e i could tag along!

is it really as expensive as they say... ie: €40-€50 into some clubs?

wouldnt mind checking it out, have been dying to go for years, but heard its a different scéal altogether these days... not the same?

also, hitting up Majorca in june, so does anyone know how long it takes to get to Ibiza from Palma on the ferry? is it worth it? anyone ever done it?

    Cheers

i see Aphex twin is playing there in August or september, can't remember the date,in Space i think, mellowing out in his old age eh!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭burkey85

The clubs can be expensive if you dont look for the discounts.
You could pay up to €70-€80 for entrance if you're a fool and let yourself get ripped off.
But look around for lads with flyers and wristbands and you'll be grand.
Got to see Carl Cox, Monica Kruse and Joel Mull in Space last year for €20 because i had a wristband.

@ df1985. No problem going there on your own, met a girl there in 2006 that was on her own and was her 3rd time being there by herself, you'll always meet people on these holidays.

Clubs are around 50 average on the door. Price is mostly justified if you look at who's playing in one night compared to what each dj would cost to see them over here. It worked out much cheaper last year though, with loads of wristbands going. Look for the people postering and they can tell you, or else go into the bars around your hotel and ask

Mate looked into the ferry last year and it was stupid money to get over 150 euro or something. Maybe more.

If you're going on your own you should stay in San An. It's the only place to meet Irish and English. If you stay in PdB its almost entirely spanish/italians so you wont get to meet anyone.

Head out to the smaller clubs on the strip in San An and youll soon meet a few people. Theyre not all chavs.

Heading to the likes of Space and trying to meet people just doesn't happen.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,670 ✭✭✭jonnny68

Pandoras Twist is right if you are heading on your own stay in San An,it's easier to get to hang out with obviously Irish and English, Scots and Welsh although most nationalities get on well but the bleedin Italians (not all of them but a large percentage) are a curse, standing around posing leering at birds not even drinking.

San Antonio is nowhere near as bad as some people make it out, i used to think it was but it's not, it;s actually a lovely place, sure the west end around 2am is a bit grim with pissed up Brits (and even some Irish) falling around the place but there is much more to San An than the west end.

Ibiza Town though is the nicest and most cosmopolitan place on the island but also the most expensive, Talamanca is nice but too quiet.

I would avoid Bora Bora too and head to Salinas beach instead, Bora Bora unfortunately is a pale shadow of what it used to be.

I'm going in September but ill have the missus and young lad with me this time so wont be raving it up every night but will certainly get a few nights out arrange a babysitter in advance, im gonna check out cheaper more underground places like the Zoo Project, etc, i may head to Pacha the once for Defected in the House or Retro @ Eden, haven't decided yet.

Oh yeah get the ferry to Formentera for the day (bring your own food and drink it's mad expensive) stunning turquoise waters and (clean) golden sands.

Anything at all you want to know let me know as ive been a good few times.:)

agree with most of above, we ended up on a 3 day bender last year our first 3 days, fooked us up for the enxt 2!!

bora bora is great craic, nvm the mad prices, go the offo across the road from the entrance and just kick it with the other 300 people outside the barrier on the beach!

will deffo be bookin jets this year, waitin for full lineups before i book anything

Heading over next Friday but it won't be on a mad one. Staying on the East of the Island at Santa Eularia but I'd like get to see a bit of the Island. Don't think there'll be any clubbing though because of the group I'm going with.

Can anybody recommend any nice beach bars to check out. I've always wanted to go Cafe del Mar, but is it just a tourist trap now, or is it even still going?

Went there last year with a few friends, thought it was great but expensive.

The one night i wouldn't miss is Fiesta Del Aqua in Es Paradis every Saturday definitely my best night over there.

Also another shout for the jet apartment, although i would stay in San an if i was going on my own.

Try to get all tickets for the clubs off one tout, they do good deals and try to get a ticket to a beach pre-party.

Other than that enjoy yourself you will never forget the experience and imo its well worth the money.

have to disagree about Bora Bora well inside the place anyway, there never used to be security and you could dance on the tables and do as you wish, now you'll have some steroid freak of a bouncer snarling at you in broken English to get down or be ejected, the music too got too dark, tech house on a blazing hot afternoon is a big no no.

I went there last year and stayed up the northeast of the island. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. We were even further north than the famous hippy market in San Carlos.
Only went out one night to cocoon and by jaysus it's expensive. But not so much if you look at it in the proper context. To see Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos and Cassy in one night over the course of 8 hours in one of the best big clubs in the world is easily worth the 50 euro in.

We didn't go near San An. Ibiza town is real nice, but it's pricey. You cannot overestimate how expensive drink is in the clubs. It's almost as if they WANT you doing coke and pills rather than drinking.

Because it's bloody godawful. I'm not one of the intense Tiesto haters, a few of his older productions are decent enough, so its not a bandwagon comment. But my mate went to his set when we were over there and was telling me some of the tripe he played. Woeful remixes of black eyed peas.

Was at Bora Bora last year and there were loads of people up on the tables, not a word said to them.
That salinas place looks like a nice spot but i love the madness of Bora Bora.

About Tiesto, have heard his sets over there are terrible, just the visuals are great, but tbh i wouldn't cross the road to see the man, hate him.

    Es Paradis

A tip on this place, over there last summer (11 of us) the 4 girls paid like €30 in there to see Tiesto, etc... and we went across the road to Ibiza Rocks (ended up getting in for tenner I think in the end) Anyway, since a bottle of bud was €15 we headed outside for bit of air and a few drinks, promoter came over saying the little bar under Es Paradis does 2 double vodkas for a tenner, in we go and after a few rounds of that got tickets into Es Paradis for free. So into Ibiza Rocks and Es Paradis for a total of €15 + the drink (but that was being done regardless).

Unless you plan on bringing a mountain of money you won't be drinking in the big clubs, likes of Ibiza Rocks, etc... are about €10-15 a bottle think the bigger ones are dearer again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭burkey85

Space, Amnesia and Pacha average prices:

    Long neck bottle €15
    Red Bull €12
    Bottle of water €10

Also, this might be of interest to some:

even girls?! thats pretty scary, I think I'll most definitly be watching my drink over there, I'll just drink before we hit the clubs and not bother buying drink in there, wouldn't want to waste most of the night queing at the bar anyway!

I wasn't there last year so cant comment but the previous 2 years they were telling people to get down off the tables so unless they've relaxed on that, it'll be interesting to see what music they play @ Bora Bora, ut's a beach bar so should not play anything too heavy.

What's the dealio with Space? I was in Ibiza last month the week before Space opened and went to the Water Park next door to it (well, it's actually part of it from what I can see). But anyway, how does Space go on til the next day if it's an outdoor thing and there's loads of families having a "quiet" day out in the Water Park? Do you end up having a loada gurning ravers on the water slides?

from what i can gather the Ibizian authorities said that there will be no more daytime clubbing like Space which used to open early doors and go on all day and night, instead it has to open now at 5pm at the earliest (We Love on Sundays)

DC10 too was affected although you'll still get beach and pool partys which i prefer anyway as your not restricted to one place all the time.

Afaik, the new curfew for gigs is between 6am and 4pm,

@ musicmattersx: No i've never seen a girl being hit over there,
but boy or girl, nobody likes a drunken mess, Ibiza is not like a lot of big holiday spots where you have people pissed drunk all over the place all day and all night.

Heading myself on the 7th Aug. About 20 of us staying in Playa den Bossa. Most of them staying in the Jets, few of us in a hotel. It's my first time going, it's the 3rd time for most of my mates.

Can't wait for Space on Sun and Tues (and probably Wed) and Cocoon on Mon.

Doesn't really answer my question though jonny. ;)

I was asking how could you have an outdoor club banging out the tunes with pilled-up ravers right beside a family Water Park?

    Hey guys
Ibiza is my favourite place in the world
Was there twice last year one for 5 weeks and didnt wanna come home!!!!
Always stayed in san antonio, the town not the bay and never ever had a problem, down at the sunset bars is the nicest but a bit pricey but if you drink in the west end before going to the clubs you'll miss the messy people cus you'll already be having the time of your life in the club and you'll catch the amazing drinks offers all the bars have to offer

There are free buses to most nights from san an just ask at the ticket shops

If you go down the beach around 1 on the day of the water parties you'll get free passes (I got mine but never made it cus i was in a mess)

DO NOT MISS THE ZOO PROJECT!!!!!! it finishes in early sept so anyone going for the closings like me will but it's one of the best days on the island. Its every sat and wed during the day

Hope everyone has fun, bring on sept yay :D:D:D

opps forgot to say water in the clus is €9.00 for a small bottle so when your ordering drinks get a glass filled with ice and it'll melt giving you loads of free water ;) dont worry they only use clean ice in the big clubs

There is fck all issue with spiking especially in the bigger clubs. No one is going to waste their drugs on you. Plus theres nowhere to leave your glass in the bigger clubs, unless you count haivng to leave them outside the toilets when you go into them in Space

Was there last year and the year before. €6 bottle of water in Amnesia. Nearly €20 for a vodka red bull.
The issue with getting a glass of ice is that you are drinking the supposed unsafe tap water. If youre going to do that anyway, when youre in amnesia you can fill your bottle up in the bathrooms

There are also absolutely no queues at the bars in any of the clubs, at all. Mostly cos of the drink prices

Would agree with ya about all the clubs except for Pacha,

My flight over isnt untill late so we probally wont get in till about half 11/12 at night, then going to the apartment to check in etc, do you think it is definitly worth going out on the 1st night I get there or am I better off saving myself till the next night? We were thinking of going to Cream in Amnesia the night we arrive!

deffo go to cream it doesnt get properly started till after 12/1 anyway so you'll prob be getting there at the right time.
About drinking water from the toilets NEVER EVER DO THAT!!!!!! the ice from amnesia and the other clubs comes pre packed and is make from clean water so you can drink melted ice but not tap water that would be stupid.

Depends on what nights are on when you get there, personally, i wouldnt go to cream, but thats cause i'm not into the music.
I got there at midnight last year, went straight to hotel, dropped bags, drank a few bottles and was at Kenny Dope in Pacha by 1.30am.

I'd be too excited the first night not to go out

Not true, ive seen Deep Dish there before and it was rocking,Defected have their party on there Sat night as well.

Pacha though is unfortunately overun by Italian posers, plus it's the most expensive of them all although is probably the nicest looking looking club on the island.

Kenny Dope @ Pacha sounds right up my street, i wouldn't be into Cream either, went to Armada the Trance nite @ Amnesia a few years ago and whilst it was good atmosphere and Amnesia is an awsome club the music is not to my liking.
