Do you Lotto Plus?

I've always been a bit unsure of spending 33.3% extra on opting for Lotto Plus.

Seeing as the odds of winning the Lotto are exactly equivalent to dying from a Shark attack while drinking a pint in your Local, my mind is always a bit confused when I'm trying to evaluate the maths, stats and intricate specifics involved.....

    - What's the consensus out there, is it a waste of money or a shrewd move?

Do you opt for Lotto Plus? 108 votes

No - Its a poor 'investment versus reward' gamble...

Yes - Its paying a little more to possibly win lots!!!

I don't usually do the Lotto but I did Lotto plus the last time and won €50 back. So in that sense it was a good idea to go for the plus.

Yes, because i have it in my head that the one week i dont do it is the one week the numbers will come up.

I dont think i could buy a ticket without the plus.

If you want serious stats etc then Gambling forum is the place.
Me, I never play Lotto or similar. Maybe I should start, could do with a second Ferrari.

Is the Lotto plus 1 & 2 completely separate to each other?

    Yep.

I'm the only person in my office not in the syndicate so if they ever win big then I become MD by default. So at least i'll have a decent job. Been here 4 years though and they've never won enough to pay anything out, just the odd few euro to put back in the kitty. I'd rather put a tenner a month on a 1000/1 horse tbh.

I do plus and quickpicks so I wont have any regrets. There's stories of men buying valentine cards instead of their tickets and coming home to the family celebrating..

Bought a ticket today and didn't plus it. Forgot all about plussing, then got flustered when the shop woman asked if I wanted to plus it up.

More people win the lotto plus jacpots than the regular i think.

Vast majority of people do the plus from my expirience working in a shop.

Thanks Biko - May post this over there in a bit, unless some maths Genius comes over here first and lays all the numbers, rules and probabilities out for us in easily digestible form.

    What concerns me is:

If you paid out €12 you would get 8 lines on the Lotto with no Lotto Plus

For the same €12 you get 6 lines including Lotto Plus.

    - So, using tonight as an example, do you assess it as being still in with a tiny shot at winning €16,000,000 and a decent chance of paying off your mortgage by winning 250,000 on Lotto Plus?

I suppose in fairness, the fact that you have added two further lines by electing to not pay for Lotto Plus does not statistically improve your chances of winning the Jackpot by anything other than a statistically tiny amount in relative terms.....

and for the people who win?
what about those who win multiple times?

have to laugh at people who say this really..

Why do people assume lotto players are living in this dream world where a jackpot win is just an inevitiabilty or some foregone conclusion?

Do you really believe anyone is going into a shop today and buying a ticket with this idea they have some reasonable chance of winning?

It's just pie-in-the-sky hoop dreams for them. It's just something to keep them going thru the drugery of modern living for another day. Look at me for example, even I know the chances of me winning the jackpot tonight are only 50:50. :(

A friend of mine apparently knows someone who never used to do plus and their numbers all came up on one of the plus draws . I would never forgive myself if that happened to me so I always do Lotto Plus.

Nah - You're getting confused with cause, effect and consequence.....

I wouldn't touch off lotto plus as it dilutes your chances of scooping the main draw which is what I'm more interested in.

Not really, she can offer all of her fortune to me to buy all my favourite things but that doesn't mean I'll accept. So I think you meant to say she has enough money to have them stolen from me? Well she's from Limerick after all... :D

True, it doesn't. And pretty much everyone knows that but still manage to behave as if they didn't. One of the quirkier aspects of folk.

And I don't think its a tax on stupidity. I occasionally but a ticket and I know what the odds are and I don't but with any serious expectation that I might win. But you still have a bit of fun day dreaming in the minutes before the draw, mentally drafting the "stuff your job" speech for your boss and generally enjoying a nice, if entirely irrational, buzz. That's pretty much what you pay your 3 (?) bananas for.

I know some incredibly rich people and i find that they spend much of their time worrying about their money and how to make more of it.

Im happy and content with what i have.
