How will the finale be shown

Anybody know when rte/sky will show the finale? I heard at the begining of the season that the producers planned to show the finale at the same time all over the world. Could see sky doing this, not so much rte. You never know I guess. Think that the media will scramble to reveal the ending as soon as they can like they did with the sopranos which even if you don't go on the net/read newspapers/watch tv for couple of days you may overhear people talking about it on the bus, train etc.

I was on Lostpedia the other day and someone e-mailed sky about it. the one thing they were sure of was that they wouldn't be showing it simultaneously anyway. No idea about Rte

The "simultaneous" thing was meant relatively obviously. But I highly doubt either Sky or RTE will even air it on the Monday. I mean Sky chose to show it on Friday this year, a terrible night, when they could have shown it on Thursday.

I think we'll have to wait till the Thursday after for RTE to show it. Four days spent wandering around with fingers in ears singing lalalala
Its a pity not to have the whole group dynamic thing that fans will get in the States leading up to the finale but what can ya do?

We can watch the show within a few minutes of it airing in the states, albeit at about 4 in the morning...

I imagine I'll get a few beers and put it on Monday night around 9.

How would that work with time difference and the like?

They obviously meant it in a relative sense. So Sky/RTE could air it on the following night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭JTMan

I have just emailed RTE suggesting/begging RTE to show the finale on the Monday night.

The more people who do the same, the more likely it will happen.

I wouldn't do it just yet. They probably won't know what you're talking about. We're only basing this simultaneous thing on comments from the writers.

    Jee, alright then.....

when I say 'at the same time' I didnt literally mean say 9 o clock around the world. I have some cop on. At the same time as in simultaneously just like they show the oscars/super bowl. Rte and sky probably wouldn't agree as would mean a loss in viewing figures but I did hear initially it was a possibility

How many episodes in the series? Will there be a double episode to finish things off?

    18 episodes/hours. And yeah the finale (episode 17/18) is a double-episode.

Thanks very much, thought it was only 12 or 13 so very happy to hear we've a bit to go yet :)

I suggest a Monday night airing to RTE (not simulcast)

I got the below response ...
    Dear

Thank you for your mail which has been forwarded to the Head of TV Programme Scheduling for attention and interest.

    With kind regards

quite crap that there's a break for final episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭irish_stevo815

The ABC Network are really goin all out for the Finale. There's a 2 hour Recap show, then the 2 hour Finale and after there's a Jimmy Kimmel Lost Special on.

It'd be cool if RTE done this and made a night of it. But they'd probably have Pat Kenny or Ryan Tubridy present the aftershow :p

I've always watched it on rte but for the finale I don't know what to do...if there's such a big gap I'm afraid I'll hear all about it and it will get spoiled for me if I wait until it's shown on rte.

Lost in our house is always a big think on thursday nights. The whole family is sitting in front of the tv and in the ad breaks it gives a chance for my mam to ask 'Who was that guy? Have we seen him before?' God bless her memory lol.

Sooooo, what should I do? Should I risk waiting? Or watch it online/download it like I swore I'd never do?

Why don't you just download the finale, put it on a laptop/computer and hook that up to your TV, and get the whole family to watch on the Monday night instead of Thursday night?

Cuatro (a Spanish station) has confirmed that it will be simulcasting the finale at 3AM on the night, same time as ABC.

    http://blog.cuatro.com/perdidos/2010/04/perdidos-vive-el-final-en-cuatro.html

So it seems when they said "simultaneous" they really meant it. Although it remains to be seen if Sky/RTE will follow suit.

If you care, start firing off those emails to RTE now.

I have e-mailed RTE about this. I will update what they say when they reply.

I kinda went for the Show it Monday Night approach as well, so there would be less chance of spoilers, etc. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

To be honest I don't think they'll be receptive to the idea. They will probably claim it would be a big ask for being so late in the evening etc. when the reality is it will probably come down to money. Financially they won't make much from advertisements in the early hours of the morning like they would in prime time. :(

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 22,698 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

But it's not like that will be the only time they will be airing it. They'd obviously still be showing it the following evening or on the Thursday or whatever. The early hours simulcast would just be for the die-hard fans who, let's face it, will otherwise be acquiring the episode elsewhere.

Tbh though, I agree. I can't see RTE going for this.

Got a response bac kfor mRTE about the Finale. No information about it though. Here's what they said:

    Hi Stephen,

    Thanks for the mail,

Unfortunately I don't have a specific date for the finale for you. Scheduling regard such information as commercially sensitive and haven't released it yet.

Apologies that I don't have a more favourable response for you,

    Kind Regards,

I see no reason why they wouldn't as SP said they just just show it "live" and then in the normal timeslot.
They probably will not. Part of me doesn't want them to. To watch with ads would be really annoying after watching it 6 years without..

According to UK TV Guide, RTE2 are showing the Lost Finale at 10 PM to 11:50 PM on Thursday May 27th, right after the Eurovision.
    http://uk-tv-guide.com/list/RT%C9+2/27%20May%202010/

It's still not too late for RTE to change their mind and screen it earlier.

I got a reply from RTE to my email...
    Thank you for your email.

The final episode of LOST will be on in America on 23rd May and hopefully we will show it soon after that but at the moment we don't have a definite date.

    Best wishes,

Doesn't sound promising that we'll get it at the same time.

Cmon RTE make it a fabulous LOST night.... something to tell the grandchildren.
I want to feel like I'm 6 years old again and am being allowed to stay up to watch Sonia in the 'Lympics or the Toy Show.

i will have to avoid a lot of places that week by the looks of things. you know that every radio talk show will be gabbing about it for example, if only for three smug idiots to be on saying "i stopped watching it after the first series because i got all confused" and then talking about everything that happened in the finale and how it was "rubbish" and the phrase "is that what it was all about, i'm so glad i didnt watch that for the last five years/if i watched that for the last five years for that I'd be so dissapointed"

sorry.. i hear too much of that bull enough as it is without a week of it to come

There is not a hope in hell of not accidentally finding out some things that happen in the finale if there is going to be a 4 day gap between US screenings and the Irish one.

I am able to remain spoiler free about other shows I like such as 24 and Supernatural but the ending of Lost is going to be a huge tv event. It will be getting written about in the papers, no doubt will be discussed on various tv programmes and on radio. If RTE showed it on a Monday (or even Tuesday) it would be great.

Probably be in the Metro as well and you'll have people talking about it on the bus, in restaurants etc.

It's going to be awful trying to avoid spoilers.

Surely RTE have made their mind up by now? Would their schedule be finalised by now?

It was certainly initially scheduled for Thursday but judging by some of the emails, RTE might be open to a different slot.

What's the story anyway with the day and timeslots anyway? Will the finale be shown as usual on the Tuesday night in the US? If so I'll do what I usually do and that's wake up Wednesday morning and watch it online.
