Don't leave babies alone with dogs

If you are squeamish, do not read any further, something very bad happens a baby in this news article .. :(
Two large dogs have chewed off the testicles of a 6-month-old boy strapped in a baby carrier and left alone in a Riverside County apartment.

Murrieta police say the 22-year-old mother Carrie McKinney had left the baby in a car seat on the floor in her boyfriend's apartment on Saturday. Sgt. Bob Landwehr says the woman and her boyfriend, Doug Ritchey, left the room when pit bull and pit bull mix attacked the baby, tearing off the infant's diaper and biting his scrotum.

The baby was taken first to a hospital, then to Loma Linda University Medical Center for surgery, Murrieta police Sgt. James Ganley said. The boy lost his testicles.

McKinney has temporarily lost custody of the infant and could potentially face criminal neglect charges, Ganley said.

Child Protective Services took the baby from the mother. The dogs will be euthanized.

The left the room when the dogs attacked? How could you run away from a child being attacked by dogs?

Gotta love the "Beware of Dogs" sign, they look like perfectly placid animals. They're not pit bulls either. Lazy journalism shocker.

Darwin award tbh. She managed to spawn but her son won't.

Jesus.....the poor kid!!!!!!!! What amazing that people would need a licence for dogs but not one for children.

I thought babies' testicles don't descend until they're a few years old?

Not valid, a darwin has to die as a result of something really stupid and not have any kids before hand.

Your posting style made me think it was a joke (i hate those kinds of joke), i was expecting to be dissappointed, secretly wanting a bad story (play on people's expectation of a joke). But this is actually horrific.

This news doesn't do any good to anyone. Why post it?

Both the nature of the injury and the fact that it happened to a baby make this topic unpunnable.

Luckily in this day and age we have hormone therapy, so he'll probably be able to live a normal enough life, just never have children :(.

First of all, you're in the Boards.ie Pub, hence ...

People talk about all sorts of crazy ass **** in a pub, particularly stories like this.

However, I defend you're right to criticize what I post, heck I even welcome it as I too have attacked and criticized people for what they have posted and so I would be a hypocrite if I complained about you doing it.

Secondly, this story does do good, maybe I just saved some After Hours frequenter's childs life.

I know I intend to go about the rest of my day feeling as if I have ;)

Not at all - Potentially saving the life (force) of one of our precious children is simply the dogs b0ll0cks.

    Stupid dumb trailer trash b*itch.

Anyone can fire out kids but ya need a licence for a dog.

Childless couples who want to adopt or foster have to jump through tons of paperwork yet these people can have 'em and then think its ok to leave the infant alone with a pit bull - vile stupid creatures who should be bred out (and so should pit bulls)

but hey, we might have our first castrato for erm... 60 / 70 years?

Or as a slightly lower career horizon: fronting a Bronski Beat tribute band.

Something doesn't quite ring right with this article tbh.

    1) Why was the kid left alone, with dogs around or without?

    2) The dogs "chewed off" his testicles..? Hardly. Article says "tearing off the infant's diaper and biting his scrotum." Dogs smelled something they liked-- diaper. Dogs probably ripped apart the diaper, kid smelled the same. Had a bit of a gnaw because it smelled good to them. But I'm not getting the impression his testicles were "chewed off" or that it was even particularly gory or out of any sort of viciousness. Probably got a hell of a nip in a sensitive area, and a tooth probably punctured the kid's scrotum leading to the kid losing them.

Complete shock article imo and does nothing for the reputation of pit bulls. Pit bulls are lovely dogs and fantastic family animals, it's just that completely retarded people keep buying them, ruining them, and making it worse for anyone else.

At least they took the child off the mother, even if temporarily.

The Darwin award is for removing your own DNA from the genepool. Castration is certainly worthy of the Darwin award.

Even worse, one of the articles I read seemed to be saying that said mother had already had 2 kids taken off her by CPS before this happened.

Not all pitbulls are lovely dogs.

Yes, particularly the ones raised by obviously irresponsible owners who want an image instead of a companion animal.

Pitbulls were used as family dogs for centuries in North America particularly. They're bred to be quite loving towards humans, and very protective. Irresponsible people decide they want one and abuse their protective nature massively, leading to reports like this one.

Not all golden retrievers are lovely dogs, either, but overall they're a well-mannered breed (like the pitbull) so I fail to see your point.

I don't think any family with young children should have dogs in the household, regardless of the breed.

All dogs have the potential to harm - they are animals. It's peoples stupidity that leads to horror stories like this, poor baba :(

I don't have a yard and my pitbull gets very cold at night, so I put her in the baby's crib with the baby. Keeps them both toasty.

I'm sorry for the child in that he will be unable to bear children when he gets older and there'll probably be some "getting over it", but the child is too young to remember any of this, so aside from condemning the idiocy of the mother and taking away the child, the child will be fine and doesn't need much pity. Infertility is quite common, be it due to genetics or accident, but there are other options. It's not the end of the world.

    Are you joking?

I would put a pretty hefty bet on the child having some serious mental issues after having it's scrotum ripped off by snarling pitbulls. However young the poor thing is.
