I was diagnosed with IBS 6months ago and honestly have never really took it seriously, I still ate whatever whenever and now I'm starting to feel the effects....

So this is my vow.... from midnight tonight I will eat a healthy balanced diet and not eat all the things which affect me. It sounds stupid but I have put it off too much scared almost of not being able to eat 'normally' but its just giving me too much hassle! now its public I have to stick to it!

    Whats yours?
one less cup of coffee? be nicer in the mornings? be more outgoing?

My vow is to spend the next 4.5 weeks focused on college and not Facebook and Boards as I am getting a Mechanical Engineering Degree not a FB or boards degree

wtf is couch 2 5k training?

Is it what I think it is where you go from being a slob on the sofa to being able to run 5k without collapsing? /shudders

Couch to 5k support thread - poke yer head in there :)

I will resist the urge to hit the snooze button multiple times tomorrow, and I will not use the fact that my first class is at 2pm as an excuse to sleep until midday. :pac:

Call me. I'll be in my car and G'em will be pushing same, so we'll get ya home together regardless. Faster than if I was driving like the granny I do :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

AA membership is your friend, no fear of being beaten up by a weightlifter who's frustrated :D and cheaper than a trip to casualty :D

You know me too well... :D

Great idea for a thread, really great, and so well timed. I gave up chocolate, sweets and crisps for Lent, and whaddya know my IBS all but disappeared. A week and a half later and bodyweight amounts of chocolate bars, eggs, biscuits, and ice cream later and I'm feeling miserable again :o

So from today onwards I vow to only eat chocolate once a week, on a weekend, and only in one sitting :)

I suffer from IBS too, to be honest I'm not quite sure what my trigger foods and pretty much eat everything (but I have been trying to clean up my diet recently in order to lose weight like most women). Thankfully I only suffer the extreme form when I'm stressed. I recently got a great tip, buy a bottle of peppermint oil (I got a bottle in Holland and Barrett for 6.99e) and if you feel any twinge of IBS put 2-3 drops in some water (it says warm water on bottle) and drink it. I've started taking it every morning just in case. There's tablets on the market at the moment, can't remember what their called but they only contain peppermint oil so buying the bottle is a better value investment in my opinion in these recessionary times as it'll last longer.

I always put mine down to other foods and NEVER ever blame my lovely chocolate! Even though the doc says it probably is! Ok instead of giving up my one mars bar Im gonna give up all chocolate and sweets for a few weeks and see how I get on :D

I vow to start drinking my 2 litres of water a day again. I'd been doing so well for years and I pretty much stopped sometime in the past year.

We'll work on the healthy eating after that... baby steps... baby steps...

People have asked for temporary bans from the site to make sure they can't see it - the ban expires the day after their due date/exams finish :P

Problem is... if you're going to procrastinate in one way you're likely to find a different way of doing it.

That is so true, also I don't want a ban as I like to post my food diary and come in here and laugh when people have to be cut out of dresses!!!

A proper long term vow of mine is swim and do any exercises I am given from the physio to strengthen my back - a solid proper vow!!!! I am 26 and have a bad back, what will I be like at 46 let alone 86

I think this is a great idea! Say if we don't go on boards for an hour, then we could go out and exercise for an hour, that the theory anyway!

I had heard about some people giving up the internet for Lent. It might give you time to do other things which would benefit your health. I know myself, i never get enough time to read all the nutitional literature or keep a food diary. I'm trying to do that now.

Birthday dinner. Chocolate Fudge cake. I failed to keep my vow epically :o

    Awwww

chocolate is a tough one though.

I had my porrige for breakfast today, instead of going "meh" to breakfast, going hungry, going ravenous, and pulling up a chair to the fridge by 11:40. Filling up my Nalgene in 3...2....

look folks choclate is hard to give up...

    but Ive found away :)

God forgive me for saying this tho humous is a good subsitiute, also avacado, made into quackamoli with tortia chips is also a rather decent subsitute... Properly made not that chemicakl induced crap you buy, in super markets and if any one says its easy to buy it... It may well be but, you dont gtet the satisfaction from making it your self :D and that euphric sensation of how good it taste maybe thats because Im an awesome cook

another one is cinimon and rasin bagels as well as rasin and nuts... Its doable.. cause im doing it and im the bigist fan of dark choclate ever... I miss it texture its warming flavour ......

but im doing it..... I dont eat any choclate any more. thoI hve the odd pastry on a sunday morning with to crosaunts and a cup of java black mmmmmmm and a cinemon swirl :D then i brush my teath... like mad

    quackamoli

    ROFLMAO

Do you make it out of ducks?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 16,698 Mod ✭✭✭✭Silverfish

There's 276 calories in an avocado, and 175 calories in a creme egg.

So you go on there with your avocado, and I'll have two creme eggs.

Oh, and about 412 cals in a croissant :)

Another 5km today, so I've walked 20km this week so far.

My weight has seriously plummeted since I gave birth to my son almost 2 weeks ago - I would like to try and gain 7lb and get back some of my energy...at least from next week he should be allowed out so I can get some walking in...there is just never enough time to eat and I am partially breastfeeding which does not help...I love being Shane jnr's mum though.
