want to loose between 6-10 lbs

    Hi folks,
    looking for you advice please.
i'm female... 5'2 and currently a bit roundy and pudgy, can't fit into clothes anymore etc - don't have a weighing scales, but weighted myself in boots today, and i'm 9st.4. and really i'd like to loose between 6-10 lbs. and i need your help.

have been doing bootcamp for last few weeks. thats 2 hours circuits/running a week, sometimes 3. and have decided today to start jogging or walking for half hour every morning before breakfast & work.. weather dependent!

My downfall isn't chocolate, fizzy drinks or crisps - i very rarely have any of those... my major downfall is portion size...and beer & guinness. I find it difficult to leave food on the plate... so thats another problem.
Also, i'm not 100% sure of foodgroups... i very rarely have rice or pasta, and very little bread - the odd loaf of mcCambridges and maybe probably don't have enough protein. I've started eating more eggs recently and buying potatoes to eat... which i'm not mad about either really - unless they're there in front of me!! so maybe i'm not getting enough of each food group??

anyways... if i continue on this type of structure of diet at least 5 days a week... how you think i'll do ? or am i missing something essential in my diet?

Morning: Pre breakfast 30 min jog (approx. 4km)
Breakfast: Porridge made with water & a banana
Mid morning - cup of coffee
Lunch: salad of small tin tuna, raw carrot, cucumber, spinach & rocket, 1 stick celery.
    Afternoon snack: pear & apple
Dinner: 2 small potatoes boiled, 1 carrot boiled, half courgette, third of a tin of kidney beans. small pot of natural yogurt.
Water: about 2 litres all day.

how does that fare out? am i eating enough of all the food groups?
    advice would be great.
and also, do you think 30mins in mornigs ~3-4 mornings a week will speed up the process, or do i need to do weights somewhere?

    Thanks for any help.

That doesn't sound like a lot of food. I know you are not huge, but unless your portions are huge, that shouldn't be a problem. And as you said, the food you are eating is fine.

Your protein and fat are both very low. One small tin of tuna is not really enough protein and certainly not enough fat. Try eating a couple of eggs for breakfast.

You're getting lots of fruit and veg which is excellent, but I'd try to throw in a bit more protein. Have the occasional piece of salmon or chicken or steak. Dress a salad with some olive oil. Maybe have a handful of raw nuts instead of a banana.

Mix it up a bit and see what works for you.

re portion sizes - stop eating like a man and eat for the weight you want to be.

second all of the above post

OP, that post could almost be mine. I'm 5'3" and I'm always fighting to lose or keep those 4-5lbs off. Like you I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't eat a lot of crap food, I'm fairly clued in to nutrition and diet, I'm more active than the average person (last year I trained for Dublin City Marathon).

For me it seems to be down to portion size and watching my carb intake. I lost 3-4lbs up to the end of February by doing just that and limiting alcohol but over last 6 weeks it's gone back on because I got married so there was lots of eating out and drinking before, during and after.

I personally think I'll always be battling against this 4lb. I'm healthier than the average person but I'm small and have a tendency a high body fat ratio. The irony is if I lose 7lbs (3lb more) just people tell me I'm too thin and I look ill.

If you don't have a lot to lose, are active and have a balanced diet - its portion size. In saying that +1 with Eileen - up the fats.

Im the same in the fact that a 3 or 4 lb loss has people telling me im too thin.

    Thanks for the responses folks!

Transform - i had to laugh at your statement. It's to the point!! but easier said than done!! i feel cheated and empty having half portions!

I started a thread yesterday on food diaries, so am loading daily intake onto that. am trying to up my oils and down my carbs, even though they're pretty low already i would have thought..though maybe not the last few days as it happens... and up my proteins (tho i have to check what, apart from meats, falls into this category!)

i'll let you know how i get on. going to weigh myself every monday on the same machine.

    thanks

Double the portions of green veg. Most green veg runs around 30 cals a portion, so you can stuff yourself with them, without piling on the pounds. And that makes it easier to reduce the portions of the more calorie dense food.
