Hi guys hope this an okay thread to post!
Lately i've been thinking about maybe gaining weight. I just don't know if it's worth bothering. I don't have a scales. Recently I went on medication and dropped some weight.

I'm 5ft8 and a size six. Is this too thin? Why do people gain weight?
What are the signs looks-wise that I should gain weight. Is it normal to have bones showing etc??

    Merci :)

It's going to vary from person to person. One very definite sign is when you have to arrange yourself carefully in bed so bony joints don't knock into each other, and bony hips don't get bruised overnight.

Other signs are things like feeling cold when other people are comfortable, very dry skin, problems with teeth and nails, lack of stamina.

Do you feel ill, weak, lethargic? Do you starve yourself, watch what you eat?

You live in a world where slimness is envied, but not easily attained. If the answer to those questions is no -- you are just lucky. Enjoy having a physical attribute that is largely considered attractive. I'm sure people with olive skin, perfect teeth and high cheekbones value theirs.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I used to watch what I eat but I don't anymore and find I just don't have that much of an appetite I eat when I want but I'm actually losing weight. I'm quite picky too about what I eat.

I'm fine with my diet with the way it is, I just noticed I've lost weight slowly over the past few mths and I can't really afford to lose anymore. I think I'm 7 st 11 and 5 ft 8. People have started to say I've lost too much weight and I don't like that.

I do get tired very easily, and my bones don't knock off each other apart from at night when I have to sleep on my back because the mattress hurts my hips and ribs.

If I'm happy with my diet the way it is and feel satisfied on it should I just stay the way am I?

If I were you I'd go to the doctor to see if anything is wrong. Your BMI is 16 which is severely underweight. If you had been this weight all along it could be just your genetics but the fact that you are still losing weight is concerning. Unexplained weight loss is a symptom of many conditions. Please do go get checked out.

It's not unexpected though, I am eating less because of the medication I'm on I think.
I just need to stretch my stomach or something! I can handle a day of eating big portions but the next day I'm still full and can't eat anything/much!

Well I would go to a doctor and get checked out. I would say you need to gain at least a stone and if you lose any more weight you could end up in hospital.

The bit about the mattress hurting your hips is a sign to me that you are very underweight. A healthy person should be able to sleep easily in a lot of positions. Or even on a floor if necessary.
