Worst QI guest?

Love the show even the shambles Dave makes of it when it shows it in WS and makes Stephen Fry look about 8 foot wide. But I've found that whenever Phil Jupitus is on, I end up fast forwarding through his bits. It's easy cos they're so freaking long. Laugh at some fact just revealed by Stephen...funny voice...allude to Fry's sexuality...funny voice...laugh at own joke. He never says anything interesting or even Quite Interesting, and I wonder if these are the bits that are left in by the QI editors, how long did he drone on for at the recording? Is it just me?

(In second place has to be Sandy Toksvig who just repeated everything Stephen said in an 'amazed' voice and then told an uninteresting anecdote)

Joe Brand annoys the **** out of me.

That American guy they had on this year (John Hodgman, when they had 5 guests on one show) wasn't up to much.

I agree about Phill Jupitus, he interrupts the others way too much with lame gags. Ruins the flow.

Phil Jupitus definitely. Who told this guy he's a comedian and how has he had such a long career? He's never made me laugh on any show he's been on

Johnny Vegas is always painful too

phil jupitus is the worst by far, next being johnny vegas but he was only on it once so it's not that bad.

Vegas was on it recently and it was painful to watch.

I tend to fast forward through Frys intro now. I find his "Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening" so annoying.

Jo Brand. A lot of the one-off guests aren't great either.

Best - David Mitchell, Dara O'Briain, Rob Brydon.

    Love the show.

The calibre/nature of the guests has changed a bit from those early days - John "Dear Johnny" Sessions, Clive Anderson, Jeremey Hardy, Howard Goodall, Danny Baker used to be fairly regular only Baker and Anderson have been sighted recently I think. Jo Brand has been there since the off. David Mitchell, Rob Brydon, Rich Hall and Andy Hamilton are my favs in recent times.

When the newsreaders and weathermen get invited on, we'll know its hit the buffers.

Yep, If any of those three are one you know it's going to be good.

They were on the same show this year whch was a treat (Series G, episode 1)

Not a fan of Rob Brydon. Like Jo Brand though. Agree that Jupitus isn't great. Bill Bailey is the best at everything.

Jupitus is the worst recurring guest. Just isnt funny or informative. Must pinch himself every morning to see himself classed as a comedian. Brand poor, but still preferable to Jupitus.

Worst guest though for me was Roger McGough - some list of people must have cried off for him to sit on set for half an hour.

The more Ronni Anconna on the show the better. Mitchell very good. Sessions (when he was on it) was very good. The person who surprised me most was the one show Johnny Vaughn was on, he was as good as any guest. And a lot better than most of the "comedians".

I like most guests including Jupitus. Jo Bland is by far the worst guest.

Thing about Rich Hall is he doesn't contribute much when he's on. For the most part he speaks only when spoken to. Hugh Laurie was a guest on one of the early episodes and wasn't up to much either. I don't think any of the regular guests are great either. Maybe Clive Anderson and Rory McGrath but were either of them ever regular?

Rob Brydon simply for his incessant referencing of his socks a few episodes back

Funny, I don't mind Phil Jupitus that much, even if ordinarily I can't stand the man.

Now Jo Brand on the other hand, yes indeed I agree with a great many people that can't stand her. Nearly every sentence coming out of her mouth is a knob joke and it was stale back in the 80s, nevermind now. Often she doesn't even bother getting into the swing of things, just takes any opportunity for the obvious single entendre.

Rich Hall can be funny enough, his manner can come across as vaguely disinterested, but that's his delivery anyway (isn't it?)

I did catch Johnny Vegas on the show the other - whose bright idea was that?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

Favourites: Rory McGrath, John Sessions and Howard Goodall.

Basically people who aren't on much but always have something quite interesting to contribute.

Of the more regular guests I prefer Bill Bailey. I actually don't mind Jo Brand so much, she is funny but her delivery can be annoying.

Least Favourite is Johnny Vegas, he goes on and on and on. Not too gone on Rich Hall on it either (love his standup though) he seems to hate being there.

Rory McGrath - his nasal tone drives me demented.

My favourites are David Mitchell, Dara Ó Briain and Bill Bailey.

I had to look up Ronni Anconna to see the face behind the name, she was a good guest, funny without trying too hard to be.

Yip, he's just the worst guest in general, not specific to QI, for every show really.

    Love the show.

Not Rob Brydon, he's just boring now, he's basically the 'character' from Gavin and Stacey, there are no differences between them. I do think Jo Brand is good on it though. I like Rich Hall too and that American comedian whose name I can't remember at the moment, the big guy. Sean Lock is always good, but I like him in general.

I seem to be in a minority, I quite like Phil Jupitus

Worst guest for me has to be Vic Reeves, he can actually be quite interesting but ruins it all by trying to be oh so eccentric and a bit of an arse
