So I went out for a walk to Stephens Green today but dear God, has anyone noticed the amount of pregnant woman walking around? I know it's the city centre and everything but it's unreal. Apparently it's down to the big freeze but holy crap, it's like there is a tag team thing going on..

I think July & September are the busiest months for births so you usually do see loads of pregnant women around this time of year.

Birth rates do tend to rise during recessions. I passed two pregnant ladies today, but I probably passed about a hundred non-pregnant ladies.

It's all relative. If I'd been walking past Mothercare I'm sure the ratio would've been different.

Omg I was just thinking this today! I was out snooping around for some clothes today, and sweet jesus... the amount of pregnant women. I react really oddly around them too, as arsehole-ish as that sounds. Kinda back away on sight of a baby belly, and have left shops in the past because they were everywhere. I guess its because its something I really really really don't want. Just freaks me out.

It's pretty normal this time of year, babies get planned to be born end of spring start of the summer months to give them a chance to harden up a little before the winter kicks in.

Yeah, I don't know what to do around pregnant women either. I fear that my thoughts alone will cause them to miscarry or something, so I try not to look at them.

Not in qualified position to comment but you tend to notice things that you are conscious about.
For instance, I need a car, I look at every car and rate it as a potential buy.
I think I need new clothes so I look at everyone and see how they are dressed and take pointers from it.
In both cases, suddenly everyone has a better car and better clothes.
You see pregnant people... Well nature is a hell of a thing...
First urge is to survive, second is to procreate. Maybe you are noticing this because your body, naturally, is looking for a child.
Whether you want one or not is what separates us from the animals, free will vs. nature...

We're still animals by the way, don't fight nature if its fighting you

There's the fact that it's been a heck of a lot nicer out lately - all those layers coming off and exposing the baby bellies.

Didn't think there was any major plan to it.

I think it has more to do with August and Summer Holidays!

I notice it around this time every year. I always put it down to it being really cold in the winter so people get all snuggly in bed to keep warm and before you know it.............. OOPS! :D

I know 13 people (so far) that are having 2010 babies.

Happens during a recession though :)

I agree with the theory that when something is on your mind you notice it more. A friend of mine had a pregnancy scare a few years ago and she thought she was losing her mind with all the pregnant women she kept seeing. Same with baby product ads on the tv, babies in public places. You notice it more :)

when i read that, i started mentally trying to divide 2010 by 13 to see how many babies these women were having each before i realised what you meant!

and i'm not even hungover so cant use that as an excuse!

Loads of pregnant women at work too. I think there are five of them at work and two in my family. It was a cold winter too.... where else is warmer than in bed, playing games.

After a rough head count yesterday - I live in a small town and 27 of my clients are either pregnant or have had babies in the last 4 weeks

not freaked by pregnant ladies at all. although there is this one i always pass on my way to work and she freaks the hell out of me.

always wearing a hat and scarf, always has a mopey, sour face on her and always gives me a stare that would turn jelly into concrete.

maybe i should stop drinking coffee and going "mmmhhh that's good coffee" when i walk past her :P.

also this has been happening for the last 5 months and seriously she's like Joe's wife in family guy, constantly pregnant (and no i can tell the difference between a fat girl and a pregnant one).
