I regularily have introduced linseed into my diet. Usually a spoon in porridge but now starting to wonder about it.

I was always pretty 'regular' (daily) so to speak but since i introduced this into my diet i have been more irregular and 'bound' where i usually never am. Is linseed known to be a cause of this? I certainly do not think i am taking too much. A tablesppon every day, 2 at most.

Sorry for bringing up my bowl movement history! Im sure you will understand ;)

Are you drinking enough water? High fibre foods such as linseed will have that effect unless you drink plenty of water, along with it and throughout the day generally. I get through 2-3 litres a day myself :)

try soaking it overnight in the porridge- i do that for my clients/patients as they dont drink much water, having said that you should still add 2 extra glasses per spoon!

good idea - maybe thats why!

I am always hydrated enough through out the day, 3+ litres generally.

Insoluble fiber can cause that in some people. I like the suggestion of soaking the seeds, I put a bunch in hot water with a squeeze of lemon and then drink the water, all the soluble fiber seeps out along with some omega 3. I then leave the seeds.

Two tablespoons coconut oil does the trick if all else fails ;)

So you don't drink the seeds??

I put a tbsp of whole seeds in boiling water overnight and in the morning add more warm water and lemon and drink it all - is that good or bad??

    Thanks

How do you take the coconut oil??

Nothing wrong with drinking the seeds, but if you want to avoid the insoluble fiber then that'd be the way to do it.

Just heat up the oil to melt in a little cup and down the hatch!

They are but the oils go rancid quickly after you grind them so keep the bag in the freezer. Or better still, grind your own in a coffee bean or spice grinder, much cheaper that way too..

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that ingesting the seeds whole has little nutritional value as they come out looking exactly the same as they went in and that it was more beneficial to eat them ground?

Just from a quick google, dont know how reliable this source is.

Ohhh just noticed how old this thread is!
